Bangkok is now a regular Singapore Airlines 787-10 fixture

Singapore Airlines has no plans to discontinue 787-10 flights to Bangkok anytime soon

BKK Terminal 2

In the latest schedule update Singapore Airlines has committed to operating their new Boeing 787-10 aircraft with the latest flat-bed regional business class seats on the Singapore to Bangkok rotation until at least the end of the northern winter timetable in March 2019.

However, flights with the 777-200ER equipped with the 2006 long-haul business class seat will cease on the route at the end of this month.

The Schedule

The Bangkok schedule over the next few weeks and months is a little complicated with three daily 787-10 flights currently, dropping to two in early May, then one for the rest of May, increasing to two again for June before becoming consistent from 1st July with a single daily service running until at least March 2019.

The following tables summarise the schedule, further changes are possible so don’t forget to keep an eye on our dedicated new regional business class (2018 RJ) seats tracker page which is continually updated with the flights featuring the new 787-10 regional business class product not just on the Bangkok route but across the SIA network.

Only flights operated by the 787-10 are shown in these tables:

The Seat

The new Boeing 787-10 features the latest Singapore Airlines regional business class seat. It’s the long-awaited 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for every passenger. All the seats convert to fully-flat beds.

It entered commercial service on the Bangkok flight earlier this month, on 3rd April, and we were on board to fully review the new product. The following day we took the same aircraft back to Singapore and wrote a detailed focus on the middle pair seats, ideal for couples.

Award Redemptions

Currently Bangkok is operated three times per day with the 787-10, representing your best chance to secure a saver redemption if you want to try out the new regional business class product.

One of those flights in each direction (SQ982 SIN-BKK and SQ975 BKK-SIN) is also included in the current ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ promotion with a 30% miles discount for travel in May 2018, making it just 14,000 KrisFlyer miles one-way.

‘2006 J’ will disappear from Bangkok flights

The advent of permanent 787 flights on the Bangkok route spells the unfortunate end of the 777-200ER operation on the evening flight SQ978/SQ981. This has long been a very comfortable way to fly on the route as it’s fitted with the ‘2006 J’ long-haul flat-bed business class seat.

You’ll have to fly on those specific flights between now and 30th April to enjoy the 2006 J seat – from 1st May onwards they are replaced with an A330 sporting the 2009 RJ (older regional business class).

Other Routes

The 787-10 is also currently operating on a daily flight to and from Kuala Lumpur until the end of May. Osaka kicks off once per day from 3rd May 2018, becoming double daily from 18th May 2018. There are also daily services to Perth starting on 7th May 2018 and Tokyo Narita from 18th May 2018.

Remember, we’ve added a new regional business class routes tracker page to the site, which will be updated with all the latest 787-10 schedules as they are announced.

Summary

This news means there are no plans to discontinue using the 787-10 on the Singapore to Bangkok route, despite SIA originally labelling it for ‘crew training’. It was the inaugural route for the aircraft earlier this month – and it appears that it’s here to stay.

    1. Won’t be anytime soon I don’t think as the medium-term plan is for the 787 to operate only 1 out of 6 flights per day on the BKK route from July onwards.

  1. it was a lovely experience with 787-10 back and forth I flew with it . Singapore to Bkk 12 April and 15 April . Tq SQ

    1. Yes you’re in luck! That flight changes to the 787-10 from 31st March, which means two 787 flights per day on the BKK route from then. Enjoy it.
