With 8 brand new Boeing 787-10s joining the Singapore Airlines fleet this year, there has been no shortage of news on route announcements for the new type. This week the airline confirmed in updated schedules that one of these 787s will be used to replace older aircraft between Singapore and New Delhi from late October 2018.

The schedule

Recently with Bali and Ho Chi Minh route announcements the 787-10 has been replacing SIA’s Airbus A330 flights, but on this route it will replace one of the daily Boeing 777-200 flights between Singapore and New Delhi.

From 28th October 2018 the New Delhi route is served with the following schedule, with 787-10 flights highlighted in yellow.

From 28th October 2018
Flight From / To Aircraft Days
SQ402 SIN0225 – DEL0555 787 Daily
SQ406 SIN1625 – DEL1955 388 Daily
SQ401 DEL0955 – SIN1815 787 Daily
SQ403 DEL2145 – SIN0615* 388 Daily

Better for business

This change means a complete withdrawal of the older 2009 regional Business Class seats from the New Delhi route, passengers can now expect the 2018 RJ seats on the 787-10 or the 2006 J seats on the A380, both fully flat-bed products.

Out with the old – Singapore Airlines New Delhi flights will no longer feature the 2009 RJ seats (left) in Business Class, instead having the 2018 RJ product (right), or the 2006 J seats. (Photos: MainlyMiles)

It’s not a long-term plan however, according to GDS timetable information Singapore Airlines will switch back to the 777-200 on the SQ402/401 flight pairing with the 2009 regional Business Class seats from 31st March 2019.

In fact this aircraft allocation appears to ‘plug the gap’ in the Osaka schedule, with the A380 taking over one of the two daily flights from the 787-10 on that city pair between 28th October 2018 and 30th March 2019. You can take advantage of fantastic Suites saver award availability on the Osaka route during the northern winter season for that reason.

Our 787-10 experiences

We flew on the first commercial flight of the 787-10, then the following day again on its 6th revenue service. On both occasions we flew in the new 2018 RJ Business Class cabin and you can see our review of the first flight from the window seats here, and the second flight focussing on the middle seat pairs here.

On the second flight we took we also had a tour of the Economy Class cabin, and we now have a full guide covering where to sit on the Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10, whichever cabin you’re travelling in.

Don’t forget to check our 2018 RJ tracker page to see where else the 787-10 with the new regional Business Class seats is flying.
