Singapore’s 787-10 will serve New Delhi from October

With 8 brand new Boeing 787-10s joining the Singapore Airlines fleet this year, there has been no shortage of news on route announcements for the new type. This week the airline confirmed in updated schedules that one of these 787s will be used to replace older aircraft between Singapore and New Delhi from late October 2018.

The schedule

Recently with Bali and Ho Chi Minh route announcements the 787-10 has been replacing SIA’s Airbus A330 flights, but on this route it will replace one of the daily Boeing 777-200 flights between Singapore and New Delhi.

From 28th October 2018 the New Delhi route is served with the following schedule, with 787-10 flights highlighted in yellow.

Better for business

This change means a complete withdrawal of the older 2009 regional Business Class seats from the New Delhi route, passengers can now expect the 2018 RJ seats on the 787-10 or the 2006 J seats on the A380, both fully flat-bed products.

It’s not a long-term plan however, according to GDS timetable information Singapore Airlines will switch back to the 777-200 on the SQ402/401 flight pairing with the 2009 regional Business Class seats from 31st March 2019.

In fact this aircraft allocation appears to ‘plug the gap’ in the Osaka schedule, with the A380 taking over one of the two daily flights from the 787-10 on that city pair between 28th October 2018 and 30th March 2019. You can take advantage of fantastic Suites saver award availability on the Osaka route during the northern winter season for that reason.

Note that Premium Economy and First / Suites are not available on the 787-10, only on the A380 flights flying the New Delhi route.

You can also use any miles you have in other Star Alliance programs to book these flights, including in the Business Class cabin on the 787-10 services (but not in Business Class or Suites on the A380, which is a long-haul product).

Example rates are 30,000 miles in Economy and 48,000 miles in Business using Lifemiles or 25,000 miles in Economy and 50,000 miles in Business with United MileagePlus.

Our 787-10 experiences

We flew on the first commercial flight of the 787-10, then the following day again on its 6th revenue service.
