KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes November 2018 offers

A350ULR routes to the USA have a 'one class lower' redemption rate again in Premium Economy for November, but there are even better deals this month.

EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.

SQ 777 Underside (Amarnath Tade)

Welcome to our regular monthly breakdown of the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes offer. This time it’s discounts for travel in the month of November 2018 on a wide range of routes in Business and Economy Class.

KF Logo trans

Highlights this month include a repeat of the special ‘one class lower’ mileage rate on the new A350ULR flights to and from Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, this time for Premium Economy class only.

Singapore to Frankfurt in Business Class is available at 30% off in November – 59,500 KrisFlyer miles for this routing in the excellent 2013 Business Class seat. Several Australian cities have also made a welcome return with 30% off in Business. If you can stomach Economy class to or from London this 13-hour route is also up for grabs at just 26,600 miles.

What is Spontaneous Escapes?

A bunch of seats Singapore Airlines can’t fill in November even at saver award rates. The cost for them to have you occupying a seat which would otherwise fly empty is minimal (you’re still paying the taxes remember). In return they get to reduce the number of KrisFlyer miles in circulation which reduces liability on their balance sheet. Simple.

If you can fit one of these discounted redemptions into your travel plans at short notice – what’s important is that you’re getting a good deal compared to usual.

Do bear in mind of course that unlike a normal KrisFlyer redemption, any booking made under the Spontaneous Escapes offer is non-changeable and non-refundable.

November offers – SIA Business products

Before we get into the full route tables for the main November 2018 discounts, let’s start by addressing the most regular question people ask each time this offer comes around. Which Singapore Airlines long haul Business Class or new regional Business Class seats are included this month?

Here’s the breakdown this time around:

It’s a long slog on these flights in Premium Economy, however these are good redemption rates.

Do bear in mind though as we said last month there is still aggressive pricing for cash tickets on these routes – Singapore to Los Angeles return in Premium Economy in November for example is available from S$1,446 return. Newark isn’t much more expensive at S$1,646.

You would also earn KrisFlyer miles for these itineraries, even with the Premium Economy Lite fare, and working that in to the calculation seriously erodes the value of each mile used in the promotion above to a level we probably wouldn’t be comfortable with, unless cash fares are more expensive on the specific dates you’re looking at.

Don’t discount it totally, but do the maths first!

Terms and conditions

Most of our readers are familiar with the rules regarding Spontaneous Escapes bookings, however if it’s new to you or you need a recap here’s a reminder of the T&Cs:

  • Book by 31st October 2018.
  • Valid for flights from 1st – 30th November 2018.
  • Valid for ‘Saver’ award tickets on selected routes.
  • Blackout dates apply on certain routes (e.g. Singapore to Denpasar in Economy Class blocked 2nd-7th November).
  • Once booked, these promotional redemption rates are non-changeable and cancellable.
  • All flights in the chosen itinerary must be included in the offer, otherwise the miles rate reverts to standard ‘Saver’ rates for the whole itinerary with no discount. We recommend booking one-way legs so you can still save, for example on one direction of a return trip.
  • Stopovers are not allowed (again, think one-way redemptions with this offer).
  • Waitlist Saver redemptions are included in the discount, however the waitlist must clear on or before 31st October otherwise the regular ‘Saver’ rate will apply.

Summary

For a second month we see the option to pay ‘one class lower’ on the Singapore Airlines A350 ultra long-haul flights to and from the USA, though for November this is unfortunately restricted to Premium Economy with no offers up the front in Business Class. Unfortunately with competitive discounts still offered for cash tickets on many of these flights, using miles often doesn’t make much sense even under this promotion.

For other routes it’s good to see some Europe options available again – Singapore to Frankfurt in Business for 59,500 miles (26,600 in Economy) and London in Economy for 26,600 miles in either direction. These are savings worth having on these longer flights.

A good dose of Australia options is also back in Business Class, just watch out for the odd 2009 regional seat on the Melbourne route – there are probably better options for your miles.

11A
A significant number of the Business Class discounts this month feature the 2013 Business Class seat. Check out our full review here. (Photo: MainlyMiles)

For the second consecutive month two routes offer discounts on the latest long-haul 2017 Business Class fitted to the newest A380s. There are also some shorter options flying the 787-10 aircraft in the new regional Business Class seat, with the Delhi route making an appearance in November, though none of the longer sectors like Japan are on offer.

Remember if you’re unable to secure a return flight at the discounted rates, book two one-way tickets instead. You’ll pay the usual ‘Saver’ rate for the non-discounted sector but at least the whole itinerary will not be at the standard rate.

One last ‘golden rule’ to always bear in mind with this offer is that you will want to have pretty firm plans before taking advantage, because you can’t modify or cancel these bookings once made.

  1. Thanks for this, love the breakdown on seats! So useful, gosh, so which are the Best 3 offers assuming I am very the spontaneous? Thanks.

    1. Thanks – glad you find it useful!

Frankfurt in Business is the biggest saving, but for me Shanghai on the new A380 2017 Business Class or Seoul in 2013 Business Class are really good deals this month.

      1. Hi thanks Andrew for your fast reply. Forgot to mention, I have a 1yo. Had a look at the weather forecast, I think none is suitable, probably had to resort to Brisbane (but am going to Melb & Sydney next year) or Denpasar (super old J) ;(

  2. Thank you for this, Andrew! Brilliant that you included the seat type by route, makes it super easy for readers at a glance 🙂 I might have missed the info; is there a list showing the dates in Nov when SQ982 will suffer the 333? My mid Nov flight is still showing 787 seat map. Hope no equipment change! Thank you.

    1. Hi thanks for the kind words. Pleased to know it’s making it easier for our readers to decipher than just a list of destinations and flight numbers. The seat types mean everything here!

Singapore Airlines keep changing the 333/787 deployment on SQ982/983 in November, which is making it very difficult to keep track of. Before it was showing the 787-10 on specific days of the week, but now the 787 is apparently only operating on 16th November and no other dates. I hope it’s that day you’re travelling on!
