Flights are loaded for booking

Singapore Airlines is already loading these additional VTL flights for booking and redemption, including saver awards in Business Class on some flights.

If you are planning an Australia trip during early 2022, it may be a good idea to lock some of these redemptions in, since you’re still protected by SIA’s complimentary rebooking benefit when securing a ticket by 31st December 2021.

VTL flights are currently loaded on all routes only until 26th March 2022, subject to further extension of the scheme.

All designated VTL flights

We have updated our full list of VTL designated flights by all airlines on all VTL routes following these Australia additions from SIA.

It’s worth bookmarking that page for future reference.

There will also likely be additional Australia – Singapore VTL flight announcements from other airlines including Qantas and Scoot in due course, which we’ll include on that page.

Only last week Jetstar announced it had applied for VTL status on a reinstatement of its four times weekly Perth – Singapore route from mid-February 2022.

Requirements when flying to Australia

Travellers flying from Singapore to Australia must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken 72 hours before departure.

Travellers younger than five years of age are exempted.

Here’s our latest rundown of the cheapest locations to get a pre-departure PCR test suitable for travel in Singapore, starting at S$107.

There are even competitive options for those preferring to be tested at home, now starting at S$138.

Total testing costs for a round-trip stand at around S$380 to S$480.

🇦🇺 VTL
Singapore Australia
COVID-19 Testing

Test Cost
Singapore pre-departure* S$107 – S$200
Australia pre-departure* ~S$150
Singapore arrival S$125
Total ~S$382 – S$475

* Prices vary between providers and locations.

An arrival test in Australia is also required within 24 hours of landing there, though this is free of charge.

While anyone can travel from Australia to Singapore via the VTL, in the other direction Australia has only currently opened its international borders to its own residents and fully vaccinated Singapore citizens, excluding Permanent Residents and pass holders for the time being.

This is likely to be relaxed as Australia’s borders gradually reopen to fully vaccinated tourists and visitors from around the world, so by the time these additional VTL flights commence in early 2022, we doubt that restriction will be an issue.

Summary

More VTL flights from Australia coming through as vaccination rate targets are met there, driving international border reopening in the coming weeks and months.

In addition to existing Darwin, Sydney and Melbourne VTL flights, there will be at least 96 weekly quarantine-free services per week from Australia to Singapore by March 2022, and that’s before accounting for inevitable further announcements from non-SIA carriers for these new cities.
