DBS WWMC cutting 4 mpd cap to S$1,500 per month from March 2024

You'll only be able to earn 4 mpd for online transactions with your DBS WWMC card on the first S$1,500 of monthly spend from 1st March 2024, a 25% cut.

One of the most popular credit cards for earning bonus miles at 4 mpd here in Singapore is undoubtedly the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard (WWMC), which offers this competitive earn rate on the first S$2,000 of monthly online spend, including Kris+ and travel transactions in Singapore and overseas.

That’s made this card your easy way to earning 96,000 miles per year, but unfortunately there’s some bad news to report in 2024, with DBS trimming the cap on this bonus miles earning by a quarter.

In an update on its website, DBS has announced that the WWMC card’s S$2,000 monthly cap for 10X bonus (4 mpd) online spend is being cut to S$1,500.

This will become effective from 1st March 2024, making February 2024 the final calendar month you’ll be able to max out the full S$2,000 allowance at the 4 mpd rate.

This announcement was added today as an ‘important notice’ to the product landing page on the DBS website, but there has been no direct communication with cardholders at this stage as far as we are aware, nor have any changes to the card terms and conditions been published at this stage.

Squint and you’ll miss it, so here’s a larger version for clarity.

Remember the DBS WWMC earns only 0.4 mpd for non-eligible local spend and and online spend in excess of the monthly cap, so it’s certainly not a card you want to be using for anything outside the 4 mpd bonus rate.

An uncapped 1.2 mpd rate is offered for overseas offline spend, and overseas online spend that exceeds the monthly cap, but this is lacklustre compared to alternatives on the market offering up to double this rate, like the HSBC TravelOne and UOB PRVI Miles cards (both 2.4 mpd).

Once this change takes effect, the maximum bonus earning each month with this card will be 6,000 miles (S$1,500 x 4 mpd), or 72,000 miles per year, 75% of the previous level.

That means you’ll have to recalibrate your spending patterns with this one from 1st March 2024 onwards, to ensure you’re still maximising the 4 mpd rate but not exceeding it wherever possible.

This development comes five months after DBS axed its 3 mpd earn rate for online flight and hotel spend with the Altitude cards.

For the time being, DBS has not revealed any other changes for the WWMC card from 1st March 2024, so let’s hope this is the only benefit cut in store. Once the revised terms and conditions for this card are published, we’ll have a fuller picture of any other changes potentially in the pipeline.

Update: DBS has now updated the terms and conditions document for the WWMC card, which now states “With effect from 1 March 2024, please note that the online bonus awarding cap for eligible spend will be adjusted from S$2,000 to S$1,500”. No other changes to the card are apparent.

No changes have been announced for the DBS Woman’s Card, but that’s not the one we tend to focus on since it only offers 2 mpd on a maximum of S$1,000 online spend per calendar month, and is therefore of little interest to our readers.

Summary

In a disappointing development, DBS is cutting the bonus spend cap on its popular WWMC card from S$2,000 per month to S$1,500 per month from 1st March 2024.

That still makes it a very good proposition for online spend, but it’s certainly a bit less sweet than before, since many will hit the cap far sooner than usual.

This has been a great card to generate an easy 96,000 miles per year, and sadly that soon becomes a maximum of 72,000 miles per year following this change.
