The promotion is timed to celebrate KrisFlyer’s 25th anniversary, which falls today – 1st February 2024.

Under this promotion, both new and existing Amex SIA KrisFlyer Ascend cardholders can achieve an upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with:

  • A minimum of S$12,500 spend between 1st February 2024 and 31st May 2024.
  • A minimum of S$2,500 of the S$12,500+ spend must be on eligible Singapore Airlines bookings.
  • Eligible Singapore Airlines bookings are those originating from Singapore, paid in Singapore Dollars, and made directly with Singapore Airlines via singaporeair.com. This includes flight bookings paid via Pay Small, an instalment payment plan by American Express, the SingaporeAir mobile app, or over the phone.

“To celebrate KrisFlyer’s 25th Anniversary, American Express Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card Members can accelerate to KrisFlyer Elite Gold membership tier more easily and quickly. “

The usual requirement for attaining KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with the Amex SIA KrisFlyer Ascend card is only open to new cardholders in their first year of membership.

In this case, a spend of at least S$15,000 is required, only on eligible purchases made at singaporeair.com, (including flight bookings paid via Pay Small, or the SingaporeAir mobile app, within the first 12 months of card approval.

That makes this new deal, with significantly reduced spend on SIA tickets and open to both new and existing cardholders, a significant improvement on the usual perk.

Eligible spend for the purposes of this promotion refers to purchases of goods and services at American Express merchants, which are reflected on your monthly statement for your Amex SIA Ascend card, excluding any refunded, reversed, disputed, unauthorised, or fraudulent transactions.

Other excluded spend comprises the non-eligible purchases or transactions set out at go.amex/sgexclusions.

If your PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold membership ends after 31st May 2024, you will not be eligible for this promotion, even if the requisite spend is met.

KrisFlyer Elite Gold status gets you everything from priority check-in and additional baggage allowance through to lounge access, free Wi-Fi on SIA in Economy Class, and even perks when ‘slumming it’ with Scoot.

We’ve got a comprehensive rundown of the benefits you’ll receive as a KrisFlyer Elite Gold status holder in the following article.

While there are several perks for regular travellers, do remember the significant outlay this status upgrade entails.

Make sure you’ll make good use of these perks over 12 months before going ahead – good as it is, it frankly isn’t worth it for infrequent travellers.

If you are among the first 500 Ascend cardholders who meet the S$12,500 spend criteria (including at least S$2,500 on SIA tickets as defined above), you will be eligible to receive an additional gift.

  • S$125 eCapitaVoucher

You will receive a redemption email from American Express (at the email address registered with your American Express account) within 8 to 10 weeks after the end of the promotion period (i.e. by 9th August 2024).

If you are among the first 250 Ascend cardholders who spend an additional S$2,500 or more on eligible purchases, on top of the status upgrade spend (S$12.5k, including S$2.5k on SIA tickets) during the promotion period, you’ll be entitled to an alternative gift.

  • 25″ Samsonite luggage

Unlocking this gift will require a total spend of S$15,000 or more on eligible purchases, including a minimum of S$2,500 on SIA flight bookings.

Those who qualify for this gift will not be eligible for the S$125 eCapitaVoucher under the first 500 spenders tier outlined above (it’s one or the other).

As with the previous gift, you will receive a redemption email from American Express (at the email address registered with your American Express account) within 8 to 10 weeks after the end of the promotion period (i.e. by 9th August 2024).

Full terms and conditions for this accelerated status upgrade, including the free gift awards, are available here.

Summary

Between now and the end of May 2024, both new and existing Amex SIA KrisFlyer Ascend cardholders can unlock KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with S$12,500 spend, including just S$2,500 spend on Singapore Airlines tickets.

That’s a significant improvement on the usual S$15,000 spend needed purely on Singapore Airlines in the first membership year, and so represents a great opportunity for a relatively easy status upgrade, even if you’re an existing cardholder.

There are many perks to the KrisFlyer Elite Gold tier for regular travellers, but at the same time nothing too ground breaking if you only travel infrequently and not necessarily on a Star Alliance carrier, so do check out all the benefits first, before deciding if it’s worth proceeding with this one.

  1. My current SQ G card is due to expire ‘May 2024’ so I assume that based on what you have outlined above, its ending before 31st May, so therefore all good to get a status renewal at G level if I take out a new card? I am already an Amex plat card holder so would need to pay the new card fee (sorry if it’s a silly question, wanted to double check 🙂 )

  2. Am only silver elite so i suppose am fine. if i spend total 15K [2.5 in tickets and 12.5 elsewhere], when will my tier upgrade to gold? will it happen as soon as hit the 15k spend or after may>?

  3. If my gold status end on March 2024, if I meet criteria, after 31 May, do I get a full 12 months elite gold membership , or membership duration will be shortened ?
