Singapore Airlines brings back Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires in First Class

Singapore Airlines is once again pouring a well-rated vintage champagne from Charles Heidsieck, the 2007 Blanc des Millénaires, in its First Class and Suites cabins, while The Private Room now gets two vintage options.

Singapore Airlines has made another change to its champagne selection in the First Class and Suites cabins, which sees a return of the well-rated Charles Heidsieck 2007 vintage Blanc des Millénaires, in place of the most recent rotating guest Champagne Henri Giraud MV 19 Aÿ Grand Cru.

This change follows the removal of Dom Perignon in November 2022 and the introduction of a rotating “guest” champagne policy in these cabins since June 2023.

These feature as a third Champagne option, and are set to remain available through at least the end of 2024.

The latest champagne joining the airline’s First Class lineup is a 2007 Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires, a 100% Chardonnay made up solely of wines from the same year.

This new option replaces the Champagne Henri Giraud MV 19 Aÿ Grand Cru, which itself had previously replaced Bollinger La Grande Année earlier in 2024, both of which were also poured alongside long-time stalwarts 2009 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne and Krug Grande Cuvée.

Singapore Airlines has released a video to celebrate its partnership with Charles Heidsieck, and this particular Blanc des Millénaires champagne in particular, which you can watch below.

For the Champagne pros, tasting notes are available here.

Here’s how Singapore Airlines describes the champagne in its menu.

“Blanc des Millénaires is [Charles Heidsieck’s] Prestige Cuvee and is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown on some of the greatest sites in the Cote des Blancs sub-region. At over 15 years old this wine is proof of the longevity of these wines and has developed wonderful toasty aged Chardonnay characters from extended time in bottle. In short an exceptional Blanc des Blancs Champagne of great quality and individuality.”

Champagne quality is certainly a subjective topic, subject to individual taste and preference, but this one picks up an impressive 4.4 star rating out of 5 on Vivino.

You can pick up a bottle in Singapore for a cool S$277 (some are even charging S$360 for it!).

We tried the 2004 vintage of this excellent Champagne a few years back on a Qantas flight in First Class from Singapore to Melbourne, and it was a fantastic pour, so hopefully the 2007 lives up to similar standards.

It will be interesting to see what our readers think of the product in the weeks ahead, when flying SIA First Class.

Three Champagnes in First Class

Singapore Airlines remains one of the few carriers worldwide to offer three Champagnes in First Class and Suites – a policy first introduced in June 2023 and set to continue through at least the end of 2024.

Here’s an example inflight menu from Singapore to Jakarta, later this month.

This is a very nice trio to choose from, and will be available on all routes with a First Class or Suites cabin across the network (yes, even the 90-minute Jakarta hop as shown above!).

It’s nice to see a Rosé Champagne offered in these cabins, in the form of the Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2009.

In previous years, Singapore Airlines has offered a special Champagne in First Class and Suites over the festive season, including vintage Krug 2004 last year, so we look forward to seeing whether the airline has something similar planned for 2024.

Since its reopening in 2022, The Private Room – Singapore Airlines’ exclusive lounge for First Class and Suites passengers at Changi Airport Terminal 3 – has featured vintage Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, initially the 2008 and more recently the 2012 label.

However, based on a recent reader report from October 2024 there is now also a 2016 Geoffroy Empreinte Millesime Extra Brut vintage Champagne being poured in the lounge.

In addition to Tattinger Comtes and Geoffroy Empreinte Millesime, guests in The Private Room can also order non-vintage champagne from the First Class and Business Class SilverKris lounges, which are currently:

Where is Singapore Airlines flying its First Class and Suites cabins?

17 destinations on the network now receive regular Singapore Airlines flights with a First Class and/or Suites cabin on board, including two “fifth freedom” routes (Frankfurt to New York and Tokyo to Los Angeles).

You can see a full list of routes and flight numbers with these products at our dedicated First Class Seats by Route page.

That list is valid for flights until the end of the northern winter season in late March 2025, with next year’s final summer schedule through to late October 2025 yet to be finalised.

Business Class now gets Charles Heidsieck

Back in August we reported on the welcome return of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Champagne to Singapore Airlines’ Business Class cabins network-wide, replacing the non-vintage Piper-Heidsieck Essential Extra Brut.

Charles Heidsieck returned to Singapore Airlines Business Class in September 2024

This popular drop is also being served in the airline’s home base SilverKris Business Class lounges.

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve picks up an impressive 4.2 out of 5 rating on Vivino, despite being a non-vintage, a great step up in quality from the Piper-Heidsieck Essentiel Extra Brut it replaced, which scored 4.0 out of 5.

While Charles Heidsieck is now offered across the network, do note that Singapore Airlines does not offer champagne in Business Class on its very shortest flights, which are those to and from:

  • Kuala Lumpur
  • Medan
  • Penang

On these services, white wine and red wine are available, but sadly nothing in the bubbles department.

However, do be aware that the airline now lists both the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve and the Piper-Heidsieck Essential Extra Brut champagnes as its Business Class offering on its London Gatwick and London Heathrow flights, based on the Inflight Menu portal.

It therefore seems like there may still be some stocks of the Piper-Heidsieck being used up on those routes, with the two alternating with one another on selected flights.

Summary

Singapore Airlines continues to pour three varieties of champagne in its First Class and Suites cabins, with the latest “guest” rotation shifting back to the well-rated vintage 2007 Blanc des Millénaires by Charles Heidsieck.

This i being served alongside Krug and another new addition – 2009 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé.

The airline will continue to offer three champagnes in these top cabins until at least the end of 2024, a shift from its usual serving of two options.

Meanwhile The Private Room is not being ignored, with an apparent move to offer a second vintage champagne option there, currently in the form of the 2016 Geoffroy Empreinte Millesime Extra Brut, alongside 2012 Comtes.
