Citi Prestige Card offering 4.5 mpd on FCY – for big spenders

Register your Citi Prestige card to earn 4.5 mpd on up to S$8,000 of overseas spend between now and 28th February 2025, but you'll need to clock a whopping S$28,000 in total spend to qualify.

Citi has a new enhanced miles earning offer for its Prestige cardholders, with 4.5 mpd for foreign currency (FCY) spend on up to S$8,000 of transactions between 1st December 2024 and 28th February 2025, giving you three months to take advantage.

The deal is eligible for both online and physical (in-person) spend, so there’s you don’t necessarily need to have an overseas trip coming up in order to benefit.

Unfortunately you’ll have to meet a significant S$28,000 in minimum total spend on your card over the next three months to trigger the enhanced earn rate, which is a big ask for some cardholders.

Nonetheless, this is a good deal to consider if you make a high spend like that on your Citi Prestige card anyway, particularly if you’re taking a overseas trips in the coming months.

Registration required

You must register via the Citi Mobile App before being able to participate in the promotion, so you may as well do so straight away, even if you don’t think you’ll be using this one.

You can find the offer in the ‘For You’ section after logging in to your account.

Only the first 6,000 Citi Prestige cardholders to enrol are eligible for this promotion.

You must register within the promotion period, but you may as well do so straight away, even if you don’t think you’ll be using this one, especially given the upper cap of eligible cardholders.

You’ll receive a confirmation in the Citi Mobile App once you have successfully registered for the promotion.

The offer

Here’s how the deal is structured.

  • Minimum total spend S$28,000 between 1st December 2024 and 28th February 2025 (any regular eligible retail spend, including local and foreign currency transactions)
  • 2.5 bonus miles per S$1 (4.5 mpd total) on the first S$8,000 of FCY spend between 1st December 2024 and 28th February 2025 using your card (maximum 50,000 ThankYou Points / 20,000 miles bonus during the promotion)
Spend Category Base miles Bonus miles Total miles
Overseas Spend
(FCY transactions made during the promotion)
2 mpd + 2.5 mpd 4.5 mpd

There is no cap on the usual base earn rate for FCY spend (2 mpd) that you will be eligible to earn on these transactions during the promotion, even after your bonus cap is reached.

Spend during this offer, both to meet the minimum and for the bonus element, is considered based on transaction date in Singapore timing (GMT + 8 hours), regardless of the local date and time at the point of sale.

Eligible spend

The following categories count as eligible spend for this promotion:

  • Physical or Online FCY Transactions
Card transactions made in foreign currency. Card transactions made overseas but effected / charged in Singapore Dollars will not be valid.

Any spend made by supplementary cardholders during this promotion will be combined with that of the principal cardholder, for calculation of both the qualifying minimum spend and the eligible spend components.

Qualifying spend

For the S$28,000 in total charges to your card to qualify for the enhanced FCY earn rate within the promotion period, Citi maintains a list of merchants and / or MCC codes which will not earn ThankYou Points, and therefore aren’t considered eligible spend either, here.

Some of the most important exclusion categories are:

  • Education Institutions (MCC 8211 – 8299)
  • Government Services, including tax payments (MCC 9000 – 9999)
  • Insurance (MCC 6300)
  • Real Estate Agents and Managers – Rentals (MCC 6513)
  • Utilities (MCC 4900)

Note that education, insurance and tax payments are specifically excluded from miles earning, but you will earn eligible spend with CardUp, ipaymy or Citi PayAll spend, except for Citi PayAll transactions where you are not charged the service fee.

Speaking of Citi PayAll, there’s currently an ongoing promotion to earn 1.75 mpd, including with the Citi Prestige card, for those spending at least S$5,000 using the service between now and the end of February 2025.

This brings the miles purchase rate down to 1.49 cents each – something you may wish to consider if you have a large expense like a tax bill or property rental to pay during this period, to help you meet the minumum spend.

Qualifying spend vs. Eligible spend

Qualifying spend can include eligible spend, for example if you have successfully registered then make S$20,000 of total local spend and an additional S$8,000 FCY spend during the promotion, it will unlock the bonus earn rate (S$28,000+ total qualifying spend achieved) and the S$8,000 spend will be awarded the 4.5 mpd earn rate (since it’s also eligible spend).

In other words you don’t necessarily need to make S$28,000+ of total card spend to then unlock the bonus for subsequent eligible FCY spend, the two amounts can ‘overlap’ if you wish.

When are the bonus miles credited?

You’ll initially pick up the regular 2 mpd earn rate for physical FCY transactions with your Citi Prestige card, typically awarded within three working days of the transaction.

The additional 2.5 mpd bonus miles (if applicable) will be credited within three months of the promotion ending, which is by 31st May 2025.

Citi ThankYou Points on the Citi Prestige card never expire, as long as your card account remains active.
