Jetstar launching non-stop Singapore – Komodo flights

Jetstar will launch Changi Airport's newest destination in March this year, with twice-weekly flights to Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo, East Indonesia.

Jetstar, the low-cost subsidiary of Qantas, has made an interesting new route announcement today, with the airline set to become the sole carrier operating non-stop flights from Singapore to Komodo International Airport in East Indonesia.

The new service is set to launch in just over two months from now, on 20th March 2025, with twice-weekly flights to Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo. This airport serves as the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Komodo National Park, famed for its iconic Komodo dragons.

“With our direct flights from Singapore and over 37,000 low fare seats available each year, more people will be able to discover this incredible holiday hotspot.

“From diving in some of the world’s most vibrant coral reefs to exploring the natural beauty of Komodo National Park or meeting the iconic Komodo dragon up close and personal, Labuan Bajo offers an unforgettable experience for every traveller.”

John Simeone, CEO, Jetstar Asia

If you’re wondering exactly where Komodo is, its location is approximately 500km east of Bali, making it around three hours flying time non-stop from Singapore, a routing that currently takes upwards of seven hours including a connecting flight.

Komodo will be the 19th Jetstar destination from Changi Airport.

Jetstar will be the only airline offering direct flights from Singapore to Labuan Bajo (Komodo). The Qantas Group carrier is also the sole airline flying between Singapore and Okinawa, Wuxi and Broome.

Komodo Airport underwent significant expansion between 2019 and 2020, including a new passenger terminal and a runway extension, as part of the Indonesian Government’s “10 New Balis” tourism development initiative.

The airport achieved international status in June 2024, with its first international flights launching in September 2024, operated by AirAsia three times weekly to and from Kuala Lumpur.

Currently those travelling from Singapore to Komodo Island must first fly to Jakarta, Surabaya or Bali, then take a domestic flight to Labuan Bajo, and finally take a boat from there.

Alternatively it’s now possible to fly to Kuala Lumpur and onwards to Labuan Bajo directly from there with AirAsia.

Nonetheless, all these options take at least five hours thirty minutes, or more realistically closer to seven hours if you build in a safer connection time between flights.

This new three-hour Jetstar flight will therefore significantly simplify trips to Komodo for Singapore residents.

Jetstar’s schedule allows for three-night or four-night trips to this new destination, or even longer seven, 10 , 11 or 14-night holidays for those looking to explore further.

Jetstar has launched this route with promotional introductory one-way fares from Singapore to Labuan Bajo from S$89 and from Labuan Bajo to Singapore from IDR 463,000 (S$39), with further discounts in each direction for Club Jetstar members.

Club Jetstar members can lock in Singapore – Labuan Bajo flights on Jetstar from S$79 for the next few days

You can also redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points for Jetstar flights, but at 14,400 points one-way from Singapore to Komodo, with taxes and fees payable on top of that, it’s definitely not worth doing so in our opinion – unless the one-way fare increases to something like S$280 or more.

By that stage though, award seats on Jetstar flights don’t tend to be available – so it’s a moot point.

As usual, save your miles for full-service Business Class awards where possible, for best value.

Jetstar’s flights from Singapore are operated by two airlines; Singapore-based Jetstar Asia (3K) and Australia’s Jetstar Airways (JQ).

Summary

Jetstar’s upcoming non-stop service between Singapore and Komodo marks the first time Changi Airport will be directly connected to this destination.

Set to launch on 20th March 2025, the twice-weekly flights to Labuan Bajo will reduce travel time to Komodo National Park from upwards of seven hours, including connections, to just three hours and ten minutes via non-stop flight.

This new route will provide a direct link to the UNESCO World Heritage site and represents Jetstar’s 19th destination from Changi, making Komodo the newest direct holiday option for Singapore residents.
