Earlier this week Singapore Airlines announced the latest devaluation of its KrisFlyer miles when used to make award bookings and secure upgrades on its own flights, and while there were some cuts to award rates in the mix, on the whole members will need between 5% and 20% more miles to achieve award redemptions when booking from 1st November 2025 onwards.
Another aspect of the changes is an increase in cost for Star Alliance redemption rates from the same date, which we’ll now focus on in more detail here.

Crucially, some routes that currently see price-parity with SIA award rates will soon diverge, with Star Alliance options becoming more expensive, including the likes of Singapore – Bangkok and Singapore – London.
Star Alliance awards devalued from 1st November 2025
Singapore Airlines has updated its Star Alliance award chart, with an unsurprising devaluation roughly in line with the recent changes reported for SIA redemptions, both taking effect from 1st November 2025.

You still have just over nine weeks to lock in Star Alliance awards at current rates, before the new chart takes effect and increases the miles needed whenever your itinerary includes any of the 24 alliance carriers.
Which miles rates are being increased?
In line with the recently announced devaluation for using KrisFlyer miles on Singapore Airlines, Economy Class, Business Class and First Class redemptions on Star Alliance airlines are all being increased.

There is no award chart for redeeming Premium Economy Class on Star Alliance airlines using KrisFlyer miles, since this is not currently possible.
How much are award rates increasing?
Looking at the new redemption rates compared with the current ones, based on travel to and from Singapore, we’re seeing increases of:
- 5% to 7% in Economy Class
- 10% to 12% in Business Class
- 10% to 11% in First Class
These are more or less in line with the increases seen for Singapore Airlines redemptions, that also take effect from 1st November 2025.
Economy Class
Here’s how it looks in miles and percentage terms for one-way redemptions in Economy Class to and from Singapore.

| Economy Class Star Alliance Awards (one-way, in thousands of miles) |
|||
| Singapore to / from |
Current Rate |
New Rate |
Change |
| Southeast Asia 1 | 8.5 | 9 | 5.9% |
| Southeast Asia 2 | 13.5 | 14.5 | 7.4% |
| North Asia 1 | 16.5 | 17.5 | 6.1% |
| North Asia 2 | 27 | 28.5 | 5.6% |
| Central & South Asia | 27 | 28.5 | 5.6% |
| Southwest Pacific | 35 | 37 | 5.7% |
| Middle East, North Africa | 40.5 | 43 | 6.2% |
| Central & South Africa | 43.5 | 46 | 5.7% |
| Europe | 49.5 | 52 | 5.1% |
| North America, Hawaii, Central America | 60.5 | 64 | 5.8% |
| South America | 74.5 | 78.5 | 5.4% |
Interestingly, Singapore Airlines is slightly reducing Economy Class Saver award rates on its own flights within Asia and the Southwest Pacific in this round of changes – by 4% to 6% – but as you can see in the table above Star Alliance Economy redemptions will rise in cost across all zones.
For example, a Singapore – Bangkok Economy Class redemption currently costs 13,500 KrisFlyer miles whether you fly with Singapore Airlines or Thai Airways. From 1st November 2025, however, the rate will be 13,000 miles on SIA (500 miles less) but 14,500 miles on Thai (1,000 miles more) – a 12% discrepancy.

Business Class
Here’s how it looks for one-way redemptions in Business Class.

| Business Class Star Alliance Awards (one-way, in thousands of miles) |
|||
| Singapore to / from |
Current Rate |
New Rate |
Change |
| Southeast Asia 1 | 21 | 23.5 | 11.9% |
| Southeast Asia 2 | 24 | 26.5 | 10.4% |
| North Asia 1 | 46 | 51 | 10.9% |
| North Asia 2 | 52.5 | 58 | 10.5% |
| Central & South Asia | 52 | 57.5 | 10.6% |
| Southwest Pacific | 81.5 | 90 | 10.4% |
| Middle East, North Africa | 82 | 90.5 | 10.4% |
| Central & South Africa | 69 | 76 | 10.1% |
| Europe | 103.5 | 114 | 10.1% |
| North America, Hawaii, Central America | 119 | 131 | 10.1% |
| South America | 134 | 147.5 | 10.1% |
Business Class award hikes in the Star Alliance table are broadly double those applied to Singapore Airlines’ own flights, creating new disparities on routes that currently price the same.
For example, a Singapore – Bangkok Business Class Saver award, now 24,000 miles whether you fly SIA or Thai Airways, will rise to 26,500 miles on Thai from November 2025, compared to just 25,000 miles on SIA.
Likewise, a Singapore – Europe Star Alliance Business Class redemption, currently aligned with SIA at 103,500 miles, will climb to 114,000 miles, while SIA increases more modestly to 108,500 miles.
This has potential to change redemption strategies, since on these routes KrisFlyer members could previously treat SIA and Star Alliance as interchangeable in miles terms, but now there will be a trade-off.
That comes on top of the face of high fuel surcharges for many Star Alliance awards, which already gives then an effectively higher total cost than SIA even when the miles rate is identical.
First Class
Finally, here are the changes taking effect for Star Alliance First Class redemptions.

| First Class Star Alliance Awards (one-way, in thousands of miles) |
|||
| Singapore to / from |
Current Rate |
New Rate |
Change |
| Southeast Asia 1 | 30.5 | 34 | 11.5% |
| Southeast Asia 2 | 36 | 40 | 11.1% |
| North Asia 1 | 57 | 63 | 10.5% |
| North Asia 2 | 77 | 85 | 10.4% |
| Central & South Asia | 73.5 | 81 | 10.2% |
| Southwest Pacific | 108 | 119 | 10.2% |
| Middle East, North Africa | 105 | 115.5 | 10.0% |
| Central & South Africa | 93 | 102.5 | 10.2% |
| Europe | 158.5 | 174.5 | 10.1% |
| North America, Hawaii, Central America | 167.5 | 184.5 | 10.1% |
| South America | 170.5 | 188 | 10.3% |
Current First Class and Suites Saver award rates on the Star Alliance chart are already higher than Singapore Airlines’ own for many regions, and that gap will widen further with this latest change, since Star Alliance hikes are again around double those of SIA chart.
For example, if you manage to find a rare Lufthansa First Class redemption from Singapore to Frankfurt it currently costs 158,500 KrisFlyer miles, versus 141,000 miles on SIA in the same cabin at Saver rates.
From November 2025, however, the Lufthansa option will jump to a steep 174,500 miles, while SIA’s own Saver rate on the route rises only by 5% to 148,000 miles.

What happens next?
There are still nine weeks to lock in bookings at current rates, before these increases take effect.
If you lock in a KrisFlyer Star Alliance award before 1st November 2025 at the current rates, remember you can book up to 355 days before departure in most cases.
You will still be able to make a date change to your award later, subject to availability, without having to pay the higher rates, even after 1st November 2025, though a ticket reissue (e.g. routing change) will attract the miles difference.
Awards on Star Alliance carriers can be a good way to redeem in Business Class, even when SIA is not offering Saver space on its own flights, like this multitude of dates from Singapore to Europe in September, for example.

This award will increase in cost from 103,500 miles to 114,000 miles from 1st November 2025 (+10%), which will be 5,500 miles more than SIA’s own Saver Business Class awards from Singapore to Europe from the same date.
Remember the Star Alliance award chart takes precedence with KrisFlyer, even if only one sector of your journey includes a Star Alliance airline.

The award charts
Here is the current KrisFlyer Star Alliance redemption rate chart, priced for round-trip awards (one-way redemptions are at half the cost):
StarAlliance_RoundTripAwdsHere is the new chart, effective for bookings made from 1st November 2025, which also shows round-trip award pricing (one-way redemptions are at half the cost):
StarAllianceRound-TripAwardChartupdated1Nov25The tables also fully describe which countries fall into each zone. These differ slightly in some cases from the redemption table for ‘pure’ Singapore Airlines awards.
Most Star Alliance awards are available to search and book online through the Singapore Airlines website, though in some cases you may have to call.
Searching via the United Airlines site is also a good way to scope out availability in advance.
Increases elsewhere in the chart
While we’ve focused above on redemptions to and from Singapore, intra-zone award prices for Star Alliance awards in the rest of the world are also increasing in all cabins from November, as you would expect.
For example if you’re flying Business Class within North America on United, the current rate of 26,000 KrisFlyer miles one-way will increase to 29,000 miles one-way, a 12% increase.
Flying between the Middle East and Europe, for example on Lufthansa or Swiss, was a previous ‘sweet spot’ on the Star Alliance chart at 25,000 miles one-way in Business Class pre-2017, which increased to 29,000 miles in 2019 and to 33,500 miles in 2022.
It’s also not spared this time round, with a 10% hike to 37,000 miles from November 2025.

From Europe to South Africa, a nice sweet spot on the KrisFlyer Star Alliance award chart allowing one-way Business Class for over 12 hours at 60,000 miles, there’s a 10% increase to 66,000 miles coming from November.

Take a look at the charts above to see how this may affect other Star Alliance routings outside Singapore using KrisFlyer miles that are of specific interest to you.
Star Alliance Round-the-World awards
If you’re wondering what is happening to KrisFlyer’s Star Alliance Round-the-World award pricing then you probably missed the news – this option was sadly axed from the programme back in May 2024.
Singapore Airlines had already raised the cost of these awards in the July 2022 KrisFlyer devaluation, to 200,000 miles in Economy Class, 280,000 miles in Business Class and 405,000 miles in First Class, admittedly the first increase in a decade – but now the option has disappeared altogether.
Summary
This latest KrisFlyer devaluation for Star Alliance awards will see members paying 5% to 12% more miles across all cabins from 1st November 2025.
More importantly, it breaks the long-standing parity with Singapore Airlines’ own award chart on even more routes than before, creating new discrepancies on key city pairs like Singapore – Bangkok and Singapore – Europe in both Economy and Business Class.
While there are still nine weeks to lock in tickets at current rates, the changes mean that from November it will usually make even more sense than usual to prioritise SIA-operated flights when saver space is available, reserving Star Alliance awards for situations where Singapore Airlines seats cannot be secured.

Despite the higher rates, partner awards will still play an important role in the programme, especially for those looking at destinations or routes not served by SIA, or for last-minute availability when SIA redemptions have dried up.
For those who use the KrisFlyer Star Alliance redemption option to their advantage on select routes – there are still nine weeks to act. Book as many redemptions for the next year as you need before 1st November 2025, and you’ll still get the current rate.

Starting to get a bit sick of SIA and their constant tinkering and making the total flight experience that little bit more annoying. Time to check other options.
Why is anyone collecting SQ miles unless they’re flying them for business purposes and expensing the cost? There are so many better airlines, programs and credit card options in SG. I’m closing all of my SQ only credit cards and focusing on more flexible programs, like Citi and HSBC.
