HSBC Revolution extends 4 mpd for online travel & contactless spend till February 2026

HSBC's temporary restoration of the Revolution card's 4 mpd travel and contactless spend bonuses gets a welcome four-month extension to 28th February 2026, including the 50% monthly bonus cap boost.

Back in July this year, HSBC finally offered its Revolution cardholders a good deal, following a brutal 2024 that saw the card lose multiple bonus categories, travel insurance perks, and even suffer a KrisFlyer transfer ratio devaluation.

The “HSBC Revo Up Promotion” restored the card’s previously axed travel and contactless bonuses, while boosting the monthly spend cap by 50%, and was originally due to run from 1st July 2025 to 31st October 2025.

The good news is that the bank announced today that the promotion will be extended by four further months, until 28th February 2026.

Here’s a recap of the promotion.

HSBC is temporarily restoring two bonus categories that were previously removed:

  • Travel bonuses (removed 1st January 2025) – now back for airlines, hotels, car rentals and cruises
  • Contactless bonuses (removed 15th July 2024) – now back across multiple merchant categories

No minimum spend applies, and the monthly bonus spend cap has also been hiked from its previous S$1,000 level to S$1,500, for each of the four months of this promotion – shared across the card’s bonus spend categories.

This allows you to net 24,000 miles in total, if you max out the offer every month.

While it’s sadly a temporary deal, this represents a resurrection of features that many cardholders had mourned, so if you still retained the Revolution card, or you want to pick up a new one, you can now take advantage again for a while.

Restaurants like Cassia at Capella Singapore process credit card transactions under a hotel MCC, not as a restaurant, but that’s no issue during this promotion.

Here are the key spend category exclusions to bear in mind during this promotion:

  • Online travel agencies (MCC 4722): Agoda, Trip.com, Expedia, Klook, Pelago, KKday won’t earn bonus miles
  • Fast food (MCC 5814): Deliveroo, Foodpanda, Starbucks and other food delivery services are also excluded
  • SimplyGo/Public transport (MCC4111): Do not qualify for contactless bonuses

The promotion includes a 50% increase in the monthly bonus cap:

  • Normal cap: 9,000 bonus points (S$1,000 monthly spend)
  • Promo cap: 13,500 bonus points (S$1,500 monthly spend)

Over the eight-month promotion (following this four-month extension), you can earn now up to 108,000 bonus HSBC points from S$12,000 of eligible spending. Combined with base points, that’s 120,000 total points – enough for up to 48,000 miles, depending on your chosen transfer partner.

Here’s where HSBC points get tricky – the earn rate depends on which airline you eventually transfer your points to.

Effective mpd rates by FFP partner

Partner
Ratio
HSBC Revolution
Promo 4 mpd
Spend
2.5:1 4 mpd
3:1 3.33 mpd

3.5:1 2.86 mpd

5:1 2 mpd

The “4 mpd” headline rate only applies if you transfer to partners with the best ratios. For KrisFlyer, Singapore’s most popular frequent flyer programme, you’re actually earning only 3.33 mpd under this deal.

As you can see, it’s British Airways Avios, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and Air France-KLM Flying Blue that are among those with the best 2.5:1 transfer ratio.

One advantage to remember is HSBC’s policy of transferring in 2-mile blocks after the 10,000 miles minimum conversion, versus other banks requiring 10,000-mile blocks. This usually prevents orphan points issues.

To get the most value from this promotion:

  1. Choose your transfer partner wisely: British Airways, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air and Air France are among those offering the 4 mpd rate
  2. Book travel directly with airlines and hotels, rather than through OTAs like Expedia
  3. Check MCCs before large purchases where possible
  4. Track monthly spending to optimise the 13,500 bonus point cap (S$6,000 total over 4 months, or S$1,500 per month)
Pro Tip: Use trip comparison sites to research options and prices, then book directly with the airline or hotel, to ensure you get the travel bonus.

The last few months have been particularly brutal for credit card miles chasers in Singapore, with multiple cards seeing cuts almost simultaneously:

  • DBS WWMC cutting its bonus cap to S$1,000 per month from August 2025
  • UOB Lady’s Solitaire also reducing monthly bonus caps from August 2025
  • UOB Visa Signature splitting bonus caps from August / September 2025
  • UOB PPV splitting bonus caps from October 2025
  • Citi Prestige axing unlimited lounge visits and hiking fees from July 2025
  • Maybank cards removing various reward categories and cutting some earn rates from July 2025
  • BOC Elite Miles removing Asia Miles transfers and axing CardUp and ipaymy spend from miles accrual (but increasing general earn rates – for KrisFlyer addicts) from July 2025

Against a backdrop like that, HSBC’s temporary restoration of the Revolution card’s bonus categories feels like a rare bright spot.

If you were considering cancelling at the end of October, this deal probably couldn’t have been extended at a better time!

Summary

This extended promotion transforms the HSBC Revolution from a card that many were ready to cancel (or had already cancelled!) into a viable everyday spend option right through to 28th February 2026.

However, remember that earning an additional 24,000 miles over the four additional months of the deal isn’t really enough for premium cabin redemptions, and the variable transfer rates mean your actual earning power depends heavily on your preferred airline programmes.

This promotion works best if you:

  • Already hold the Revolution card (or don’t mind getting a new one for a few months – it’s fee-free)
  • Frequently transfer to non-KrisFlyer programmes with good transfer ratios (especially British Airways, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air or Air France)
  • Can maximise the monthly caps with eligible contactless or online spending

It’s probably not worth participating in this promotion if you primarily collect KrisFlyer miles (there are better options than 3.33 mpd available), or you already don’t spend enough in eligible categories to hit the monthly bonus caps on your existing cards.

The big question now is whether HSBC will extend this promotion further, or better still just make it permanent. Either way, until the end of February at least, Revolution cardholders can pretend it’s 2024 again!
