Singapore Airlines has introduced a welcome new benefit for its loyalty programme members: discounted additional baggage fees when purchased online in advance. The perk, which launched in October 2025, applies to all PPS Club and KrisFlyer members who book through the airline’s website or mobile app.
While these elite travellers have long enjoyed perks like discounted seat selection and increased baggage allowances, this marks the first time the airline has offered reduced rates on pre-purchased extra baggage – great news if you’re not a fan of travelling light or are jetting off for a longer trip.
How to access the discounts
To take advantage of these savings, members simply need to log into their KrisFlyer account before booking their flight, or when managing an existing booking on singaporeair.com.
The discounts apply automatically when additional baggage is purchased online.
“As a valued PPS Club or KrisFlyer member, you enjoy discounts on additional baggage charges, when you purchase online.”

Discount structure
The discount you receive depends on your membership tier and how far in advance you purchase the additional baggage.
Here’s how the discount structure looks.

As the table shows, booking earlier yields better savings, with the best discounts available when purchasing at least 48 hours before departure on most routes.
USA itineraries have slightly lower discount rates in the early booking window.
Do note SIA’s full terms and conditions for pre-purchased additional baggage allowance.
Companion benefits
PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members can extend baggage savings to their travel companions, provided they’re included in the same booking.
Companions won’t receive the full elite member discount, but they’ll still enjoy substantial savings:
- Companions travelling with PPS Club members receive 40% off (matching KrisFlyer Elite Gold rates)
- Companions travelling with Elite Gold members receive 35% off (matching KrisFlyer Elite Silver rates)
To ensure your companions benefit from these discounts, simply make sure everyone is booked under the same reservation.
All cabin classes included
One of the most appealing aspects of this new benefit is its universal application.
Whether you’re flying Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class, or First Class / Suites, you’ll receive the applicable discount when adding extra baggage to your booking.
Remember your existing baggage allowance
Before purchasing additional baggage, it’s worth remembering that KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold, and PPS Club members already benefit from increased baggage allowances as part of their membership perks.
Here’s how this looks for PPS Club members when flying with Singapore Airlines to and from most destinations, which use the weight concept.
| Singapore Airlines Baggage Allowance (weight-based) |
||
| Travel Class | Regular Allowance |
PPS Club & SolitaireAllowance |
| First / Suites | 50kg | 100kg |
| Business | 40kg | 80kg |
| Premium Economy | 35kg | 70kg |
| Economy Flexi Economy Standard |
30kg | 60kg |
| Economy Value Economy Lite |
25kg | 50kg |
These allowances also apply to award tickets, with Economy Saver and Economy Advantage redemptions both entitled to the Economy Flexi baggage allowance of 30kg, which is therefore hiked to 60kg for PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members.
Here’s how it looks for flights to and from the USA and Canada, where the piece concept applies.
| Singapore Airlines Baggage Allowance (piece-based) |

| Travel Class | Regular Allowance |
PPS Club & SolitaireAllowance |
| First / Suites | 2 x 32kg | 4 x 32kg |
| Business | 2 x 32kg | 4 x 32kg |
| Premium Economy | 2 x 23kg | 4 x 23kg |
| Economy |
2 x 23kg | 4 x 23kg |
Again, award bookings also benefit from the same increased allowances for PPS members.
Finally, here’s how this looks for KrisFlyer Elites when flying with Singapore Airlines to and from most destinations, which use the weight concept.

These allowances also apply to award tickets, with Economy Saver and Economy Advantage redemptions both entitled to the Economy Flexi baggage allowance of 30kg, which is therefore hiked to 40kg for KrisFlyer Elite Silver members.
Where the piece concept applies, which for Singapore Airlines is only for flights to and from the USA, Elite Silver members are entitled to an additional 23kg or 32kg piece of baggage, which actually matches the KrisFlyer Elite Gold allowance, as shown below.
| Singapore Airlines Baggage Allowance (piece-based) |
|||
| Travel Class | Regular Allowance |
Allowance* |

| First / Suites | 2 x 32kg | 3 x 32kg | 3 x 32kg |

| Premium Economy | 2 x 23kg | 3 x 23kg | 3 x 23kg |
| Economy |
2 x 23kg | 3 x 23kg | 3 x 23kg |
* Only when flying with Singapore Airlines and Scoot
Again, award bookings also benefit from the same increased allowances for KrisFlyer elite members.
Discount in action
Here’s an example of the discounted fee applied with a 40% discount for KrisFlyer Elite Gold member adding an additional 10kg of baggage more than 48 hours before departure from Singapore to London.

Note that the free baggage allowance of 30kg is inaccurate here – a strange quirk of the Singapore Airlines booking system that means even when you are logged on as an elite member, you’re just suppose to know that you get additional baggage already over an above this basic level for all passengers (Economy Standard booking in this example).
In fact the total allowance for this booking is 50kg as an Elite Gold, plus 10kg with the additional baggage purchase, totalling 60kg.
Singapore Airlines could really make this a lot clearer at the additional baggage purchase stage!
Summary
This new discount structure for advance baggage fees iss a meaningful enhancement to Singapore Airlines’ loyalty programme benefits.
Even basic KrisFlyer members without elite status can save 15% – 30% on additional baggage when booking online, while top-tier PPS Club members enjoy discounts of up to 45%.
For frequent travellers who regularly need extra baggage capacity, these savings could add up significantly over time. The tiered discount structure also provides a little additional incentive for members to maintain or achieve higher elite status with Singapore Airlines.

Regarding your comment before the Summary section on the example that “Singapore Airlines could really make this a lot clearer at the additional baggage purchase stage!”, I have to beg to disagree on this. It does make sense for SIA to show only the basic free allowance during the booking process as your supposedly extra allowance may not be available to you when you fly in instances you do not re-qualify for the status. In such instances, showing the ‘boosted allowances’ may led SIA having to honour the extra luggage benefits when it had actually expired.
