Singapore Airlines will be closing its SilverKris lounges in both Bangkok and Hong Kong for brief refurbishment periods this month, with alternative arrangements in place for lounge-eligible passengers, in what could see a ‘light refresh’ of these facilities like the one recently completed in Sydney.
These minor upgrades come as news of an all-new SilverKris lounge for Melbourne was revealed by the airline last week, a long-overdue refresh that will elevate the facility out of its ‘dungeon basement’ location, and is set to be completed by late 2026 or early 2027.
At its home base, SIA has started to unveil its latest Terminal 2 SilverKris lounges with the opening of an all-new First Class facility earlier this month, which comes ahead of upgrades for the Business Class and KrisFlyer Gold lounges in that terminal between now and mid-2027.

What can we expect?
The relatively short closure periods for these two overseas SilverKris lounges suggests these aren’t major overhauls, but rather targeted updates to keep the facilities fresh.
Both lounges received the Singapore Airlines ‘Home away from home’ design concept at their most recent renovations – though in Hong Kong’s case that was all the way back in 2014, making an update well overdue in most traveller’s opinions!
The Sydney SilverKris lounge recently underwent a similar three-week closure, emerging with new carpets, updated furniture, a barista coffee station, and the latest productivity pods.

The 2.5-week Hong Kong closure is likely long enough for a comparable refresh, though they could of course just be fixing the showers which have worked on-and-off for as long as we can remember!
Bangkok’s five-day closure points to something more modest – perhaps some new furniture or the addition of those productivity pods that have been rolling out across the network, but certainly not a major makeover. It was last updated more recently, in May 2017.
Either way, it’s good to see Singapore Airlines continuing to invest in its ground product, even with only a small refresh in some locations. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see what changes emerge when both lounges reopen.
Summary
Singapore Airlines will temporarily close its SilverKris lounges in Bangkok and Hong Kong this month for short refurbishment periods, with alternative lounge access arranged for eligible passengers.
Bear in mind that in some cases there are additional lounge options in addition to those SIA is offering, like the EVA Air and Turkish Airlines facilities in Bangkok and some third-party lounges in Hong Kong for Priority Pass / DragonPass members.
The Bangkok facility will be closed for five days, while Hong Kong’s lounge will shut for around two and a half weeks. Given the short timelines, we expect both to only undergo light refreshes similar to the recent Sydney update, rather than full redesigns that take months.

Honestly, the BKK lounge doesn’t feel at all tired.
Just my luck! Hit by both closures. Will Solitaire also get to use the Plaza Premium First lounge in HKG? That was the arrangement when the SKL was still closed (or had restricted hours) post Covid.
