Card payments company CardUp has launched a flash deal for the final few days of October 2023, which should certainly be of interest to those of you needing to settle a wide range of expenses like rental payments, education fees or insurance premiums, with a discounted 1.5% fee for new users or 1.6% for existing customers, when using a Visa card.

That’s the equivalent of buying miles from as little as 0.92 cents each with some credit cards, an excellent rate to accrue miles for future flight redemptions.

1.5% fee flash deal – new users

If you are new to CardUp, or have a personal or business account but haven’t yet scheduled a payment using the service, you’re entitled to a discounted 1.5% processing fee using promo code FLASH15.

The offer is only valid on your first one-time domestic or international payment of up to S$10,000, using a locally-issued Visa credit card. CardUp’s prevailing 2.6% fee will be applied to the rest of the payment, should the total amount exceed S$10,000.

The payment due date must be on or before 3rd November 2023. The payment due date is the last date on which the payment must arrive at the recipient.

Payment must be scheduled on CardUp at least three business days in advance of the due date, to allow for processing time, so you’ll have to complete the setup by 6pm Singapore Time on Tuesday 31st October 2023.

There is no upper cap on the use for this code, though do note it’s only available once per new user on the first payment.

1.6% fee flash deal – existing users

If, like most of our readers, you are already a CardUp customer who has used the service before, you’re entitled to a (still competitive) discounted 1.6% processing fee using promo code FLASH16.

The offer is only valid on a single one-time domestic or international payment of up to S$10,000, using a locally-issued Visa credit card.

There is no upper cap on the use for this code, though do note it’s only available once per user.

How it works

Simply enter the code when setting up your payment in the ‘PROMO CODE’ field:

The reduced fee will then be reflected on the next page, where you review your payment:

The promo code may be redeemed once per user and does not apply:

  • with Mastercard, UnionPay, American Express credit cards and credit cards issued outside of Singapore;
  • on any additional fees incurred for ‘Next Day’ payments;
  • in conjunction with any other promotions, offers or discounts.

Citi PayAll 1.8 mpd offer

Between now and the end of February 2024, Citi PayAll is offering 1.8 mpd on all its miles-earning cards when making payments through that platform, though it’s subject to a minimum total spend on a single card across all payments of S$8,000, capped at a generous S$120,000.

This works out as buying miles at a 1.22 cent rate, though the bonus element won’t be paid until mid-2024.

The CardUp deal works better for a quicker miles haul, and for those with smaller payments (less than S$8,000) to make, but it’s certainly far more time-limited in comparison!

For those with higher rate earning Visa cards, like the DBS Vantage, it’s also cheaper to use CardUp during this promotion, at least for the first payment of up to S$10,000.

Summary

CardUp is offering a flash deal with a fee of 1.5% for new users or 1.6% for existing users, who can set up a one-time payment by Tuesday 31st October 2023 that falls due by Friday 3rd November 2023.

This single payment is capped at S$10,000, and brings the cost per mile down to as little as 0.92 cents for new users and 0.98 cents for existing users.

This is definitely worth considering if you have a payment you can make over the next few days, and sits alongside a longer-term offer from Citi PayAll that allows you to buy miles for 1.22 cents each.
