KrisFlyer, the frequent flyer programme of Singapore Airlines, is turning 25 years old this month, and to celebrate the airline is pushing out some new miles-earning offers for members, even including a brief return for on-ground earning of Elite miles or PPS Value.

“In 1999, something took flight from our little corner of the world — the frequent flyer programme of Singapore Airlines, KrisFlyer.

“Here we are at 25, where we’ve grown to become the SIA Group’s rewards programme. And not just for flights, but also for shopping, dining, and everyday experiences. We couldn’t have done it without you, so celebrate with us and discover a world of exciting rewards!”

While we already covered a couple of deals for Pelago bookings and LinkPoints transfers earlier today, here are a few of the other deals KrisFlyer has up its sleeve in the coming months.

From 1st February 2024 to 10th February 2024, KrisFlyer members will earn 50% more miles for all SIA flights booked on the Singapore Airlines website or mobile application, for travel between 1st July and 30th November 2024.

Bonus miles are capped at 5,000 miles per segment flown, and are eligible to be awarded on the following fare types:

  • First: All fares (F, A)
  • Business: Flexi (Z, C, J), Standard (U), Lite (D)
  • Premium Economy: Flexi (S, T), Standard (P, L), Lite (R)
  • Economy: Flexi (Y, B, E), Standard (M, H, W), Value (Q, N), Lite (V, K)

While the 5,000 bonus miles per-sector cap seems punitive, it’s almost impossible to hit it when travelling on an Economy Class fare.

Only those in premium cabins, especially Business Class or First Class / Suites, will feel the impact.

Do also note the following:

  • Bonus miles are based on KrisFlyer miles earned from the combination of the distance flown and cabin bonus.
  • Where purchase of tickets is paid in part with KrisFlyer miles, the miles earned shall be proportional and only respect of the monetary amount paid for using cash.
  • KrisFlyer miles cannot be earned from redemption bookings (a 50% bonus on zero is still zero).
  • Bonus miles earned from this promotion may take up to four weeks to be credited into your KrisFlyer account after the relevant travel is completed.

Full terms and conditions for this offer are available here.

For a three-month period from March 2024 to May 2024, PPS Club and KrisFlyer members will be able to earn PPS Value and Elite miles respectively for cash spending on Kris+, KrisShop, or Pelago.

KrisFlyer last allowed members to work towards tier renewal through on-ground earning, with non-flying activities like KrisShop and Kris+ purchases netting Elite Miles or PPS Value, only during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this new deal, you will earn:

  • 1 PPS Value for every S$3 spent, or
  • 1 Elite mile for every S$1 spent

on these non-flight activities.

The PPS Value earned will count towards members’ PPS Club status renewal or upgrades to Solitaire PPS Club membership. Elite miles earned will count towards KrisFlyer Elite status renewal or upgrades to KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold tiers.

Unfortunately though, this isn’t your unlimited path to Elite status – on-ground bonus status credits are capped at 2,500 PPS Value or 5,000 Elite miles.

As we reported earlier today, American Express has launched an offer for new and existing Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend credit card holders to unlock an accelerated fast track to earning KrisFlyer Elite Gold status, when spending on the card over the next four months.

Under this promotion, both new and existing Amex SIA KrisFlyer Ascend cardholders can achieve an upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with:

  • A minimum of S$12,500 spend between 1st February 2024 and 31st May 2024.
  • A minimum of S$2,500 of the S$12,500+ spend must be on eligible Singapore Airlines bookings.
  • Eligible Singapore Airlines bookings are those originating from Singapore, paid in Singapore Dollars, and made directly with Singapore Airlines via singaporeair.com. This includes flight bookings paid via Pay Small, an instalment payment plan by American Express, the SingaporeAir mobile app, or over the phone.

The usual requirement for attaining KrisFlyer Elite Gold status with the Amex SIA KrisFlyer Ascend card is only open to new cardholders in their first year of membership.

In this case, a spend of at least S$15,000 is required, only on eligible purchases made at singaporeair.com, (including flight bookings paid via Pay Small, or the SingaporeAir mobile app, within the first 12 months of card approval.

That makes this new deal, with significantly reduced spend on SIA tickets and open to both new and existing cardholders, a significant improvement on the usual perk.

KrisFlyer’s Spontaneous Escapes promotion, offering discounted award seats in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class cabins on a range of routes, will get a boost when it launches this month.

For flights redeemed between 15th February 2024 and 29th February 2024, members will be able to redeem flights at discounted rates for travel in March 2024 and April 2024.

Singapore Airlines has run promotions like this in the past for Spontaneous Escapes, so it’s nothing special, but let’s hope a great discount rate is on offer this month, compared to the usual 30% off.

There was a 51% discount to celebrate the 21st anniversary of KrisFlyer, in the February 2020 Spontaneous Escapes offer (21% more discount than the usual rate), so we’re really hoping for a 55% off deal this time!

To celebrate KrisFlyer’s 25th anniversary, KrisShop is offering 250 bonus miles for every S$25 spent using a Mastercard via its online platforms between 1st February 2024 and 14th February 2024.

This one maxes out at 5,000 bonus miles awarded, and some brand exclusions apply.

Full terms and conditions are available here.

  1. Hi Andrew, my KFEG expires on 31 March this year, and I’m not going to requalify (too many redemption flights rather than paid in the 12 month cycle!) Reading the T&C, it would appear that I am eligible:
Card Members who are active / current PPS Club or KrisFlyer Elite Gold members whose status ends after 31 May 2024 will not be eligible to participate in this Offer even if the KrisFlyer Elite Gold Spend Criteria (as defined below) is met.
What I’m not clear about is whether the spend criteria time frame would be the whole period, or April and May only, after expiry of my KFEG?
I don’t know whether to direct this query to KF or Amex: what do you think?

    1. Yes you will be eligible under the standard spend period 1 Feb – 31 May, even though you are an existing KFEG member during February and March.

However, you will only receive the upgrade to KFEG 8 to 10 weeks after the promotion period has ended, which could be as late as 26th July 2024.

  2. hey Andrew! any idea if booking SQ ticket through official wechat mini program under SQ, is also entitled to the 50% bonus krisflyer miles as part of 25th anniversary?
