OCBC has a miles earning offer for selected luxury goods and beauty / spa spend on your Voyage card, with one extra mile per dollar spent compared to the usual rate, giving you up to 3.3 mpd on a variety of transactions between now and 31st March 2021.
You’ll have commit to a (significant) minimum of S$12,000 in eligible general spend on your card to trigger the bonus, which itself is capped at 10,000 additional miles (i.e. S$10,000 spend in the bonus categories).
The “Luxury Spend Promotion” runs from 19th February 2021 to 31st March 2021.
To be eligible, you’ll need to spend at least S$12,000 on your Voyage card during the promotion period (on any transaction, except the usual ones listed later in the article). Spend will be aggregated across your primary and supplementary cards.
This promotion is also applicable for those holding the Bank of Singapore Voyage, OCBC Premier Private Client Voyage and OCBC Premier Voyage cards.
You’ll receive a bonus of 1 Voyage Mile for every S$1 equivalent spent at the following merchants during the promotion period, provided you also meet the S$12,000 total spend on all eligible transactions.
The S$12,000 spend to ‘activate’ the promo and the S$10,000 spend limit for an extra mile per dollar can overlap.
Clock, Watch, & Jewellery Stores
|The Hour Glass||Cartier|
|Tiffany & Co||Love & Co.|
Barbers, Beauty Shops, Spas
|Sultans of Shave||HERA|
Auto Service Shops, Dealers & Repair
|Serve You Motor Service||Kuan Repair|
|Prestige Auto||Soon Tyre|
Note that OCBC has made a typo in its terms and conditions document for this offer, referring to MCC 5499 as Clock, Jewellery, Watch and Silverware Stores. Actually that MCC code relates to Miscellaneous Food Stores, but we assume you won’t actually get any bonus points at those outlets!
The correct MCC code is 5944, as shown in the above table.
Edit: OCBC has now updated its terms and conditions, correcting this error.
How much will you earn?
During this promotion, you’ll earn up to 3.3 mpd at these merchants, assuming a foreign currency transaction (e.g. online at Chanel) using one of the higher-earning Voyage cards.
Most of our readers will be participating in this promotion only for spend in local currency, however, meaning it’s the equivalent of 2.3 mpd for the OCBC Voyage card and 2.6 mpd for the other cards.
|Card Type||Base Miles||Bonus Miles||Total Miles|
|OCBC Voyage||Local: 1.3 mpd
FCY: 2.2 mpd
|1 mpd||Local: 2.3 mpd
FCY: 3.2 mpd
|OCBC Premier Voyage
OCBC Premier Private Client Voyage
|Local: 1.6 mpd
FCY: 2.3 mpd
|Local: 2.6 mpd
FCY: 3.3 mpd
Remember the bonus miles awarded are capped at 10,000 during this promotion (S$10,000 equivalent spend).
It probably goes without saying that if you use your OCBC Voyage Card to buy a car during this promotion, your bonus will top out at 10,000 miles!
It’s also worth remembering that since June 2020, OCBC awards Voyage Miles for spend in S$5 blocks (rounded down), so you’ll have to spend at least S$5 per transaction to earn any miles, and there is an adverse rounding impact when making smaller purchases falling just below a S$5 threshold.
When will the miles be credited?
You’ll earn your usual rate for OCBC Voyage transactions initially during this promotion, then provided you met the requirements the bonus mile per S$1 spent on these “luxury” transactions will be credited to your account by 31st May 2021.
Qualifying transactions for the S$12,000 you must spend on your OCBC Voyage card during the promotion to unlock the additional 1 mpd on these “luxury” transactions are the same retail transactions the bank awards Voyage Miles on, which excludes the following:
- All card fees and charges, card annual fees, membership fees, renewal fees, balance transfer and charges incurred for any balance transfer facility, cash-on-instalment facility and charges incurred for any cash-on-instalment facility.
- Instalment payment plan, extended payment plan, income tax payment, interest, late payment charges, GST, cash advances, bill payments made via internet banking, and other fees and charges.
- Payment of funds to prepaid accounts and merchants who are categorised as “payment service providers”, which include (without limitation) EZ-Link, NETS FlashPay, eNETS, SAM, Transit Link and AXS.
There are also some merchant-specific excluded MCC codes, including payments to charitable organisations and for utilities, insurance and education, plus payments to Singapore public hospitals.
Grab top-ups are also excluded, but good news is that transactions with card payment companies CardUp and ipaymy are eligible.
For a full up to date list of exclusions, see the card terms and conditions (section 1.4).
Also note that transactions must be posted to your card account during the promotion period, which can take a few days after the transaction itself. Any retail transactions charged to your card that have not posted by 23:59 Singapore Time on 31st March 2021 will not be counted towards the qualifying spend for the purposes of this promotion.
About OCBC Voyage Miles
Rewards points issued by OCBC, including Voyage Miles, are unfortunately the least flexible in Singapore, only transferring into the KrisFlyer programme.
On the plus side, however, Voyage Miles never expire and transfer fee-free into KrisFlyer in one-mile denominations, meaning you can transfer the exact amount you need, when you need it.
Another benefit – Voyage Miles usually transfer into your KrisFlyer account within 24 hours.
