Singapore Airlines announces schedule through to March 2025

Here's our network-wide breakdown of the latest update to Singapore Airlines' flight schedules for the October 2024 to March 2025 period, including aircraft types.

Singapore Airlines has finalised its flight schedules including days of operation and aircraft type allocation across its network for the upcoming winter travel season, which means we now have a firm idea of where and when the carrier will be flying through to the end of March 2025.

Although flights for this period were already loaded for some time, many frequencies and aircraft types in particular were based on a ‘copy-paste’ of the previous year’s schedules.

With the airline continuing to expand and tweak its network following the COVID-19 pandemic, that meant these plans weren’t necessarily accurate, until now.

There are new routes to Beijing Daxing and Sapporo to look forward to in the coming months, though regulatory wranglings for Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Xiamen see those cities showing as suspended again from late October.

On the flip side, Barcelona will be served non-stop during the winter season for the first time this year, while Adelaide and Auckland routes are hiked to record frequencies for the carrier.

SIA’s overall passenger network will stand at 79 destinations this winter, an increase of eight compared to last winter, with around 83% of pre-COVID capacity by flight volumes restored.

Headline numbers

In total Singapore Airlines will fly 2,292 passenger flights per week by late March 2025, its highest total since schedules were slashed in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That’s around 83% of the pre-pandemic monthly total operated on the combined SilkAir / SIA network in January 2020. SilkAir has now been fully merged into SIA.

The latest updated schedules including days of operation and flight timings are available at the Singapore Airlines website.

The destinations with the highest flight frequencies on the short-haul and Asia network are Bangkok, Bali, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Phuket, with at least six daily flights to and from each of these cities.

SIA’s Bangkok route now maintains its full pre-COVID capacity, with six daily flights

Singapore Airlines will be adding Beijing Daxing flights from 11th November, but elsewhere in China Guangzhou frequencies are halving from twice daily to once daily, while Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Xiamen links show as suspended again from 27th October 2024.

For those four cities, the issue is likely to be another temporary one while the carrier awaits local regulatory approvals, a pattern that now seems to recur every season with these routes!

Hong Kong sees an increase to six daily flights during the upcoming winter season, finally matching pre-COVID frequencies for terminator services to the city, but still short of the seven daily flights operated in ‘normal times’, since that tally included the SQ2/1 flight that continued to and from San Francisco.

Singapore Airlines will restore its seasonal link to and from Sapporo in Japan for the two months of December 2024 and January 2025, a welcome return for this popular service during Hokkaido’s peak ski season.

Siem Reap also sees more flights this winter, with twice daily service instead of 1x daily, while Phuket gets its now-regular seasonal hike to six times daily for the majority of the season.

Strangely, the Singapore – Kuala Lumpur route remains at 79% of pre-COVID frequencies with 54 weekly services operating, a level more or less retained through to late March 2025. In 2023, the airline had been operating 68 weekly flights on the route – matching pre-COVID levels.

Boeing 737-800s, with ex-SilkAir recliner seats in Business Class, will still stretch their legs to five-hour Kathmandu flights from late October – bad news for those hoping to catch up on some sleep or, with no Wi-Fi available, some productive work!

Other 737-800 routes are thankfully restricted to shorter flights, with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket and Siem Reap on the list.

For those who enjoy the long-haul Business Class product on short-haul routes, two out of three daily Ho Chi Minh flights will be operated by the Airbus A350 Long Haul this winter, as the carrier hikes overall service from 19 times weekly to 21 times weekly to and from the city.

The latest updated schedules including days of operation and flight timings are available at the Singapore Airlines website.

Sydney, Melbourne, London and Perth will have the highest frequencies on SIA’s long-haul network, with each city served four or five times per day, including A380 services to Sydney and London.

Barcelona will be served non-stop during the winter season for the first time this year, with twice weekly SIN-BCN-SIN service supplemented by three times weekly flights via Milan that take a SIN-MXP-BCN-MXP-SIN routing.

In 2023, Barcelona only had a non-stop connection during the peak July and August European school holiday period, but SIA made it a regular link from June this year.

Adelaide will see 10 weekly flights for the entire winter season, a pattern that was only effective during the peak December and January periods last year.

Auckland also increases to a record three times daily service for the majority of the season, with twice daily Airbus A350 Long Haul and once daily Boeing 777-300ER flights.

A service reduction to and from Paris is surprising news, as we recently reported, with regular twice daily flights scaled back by up to 50% during some periods this winter.

Only 5 consistent A380 routes this winter

Most of the recent route news for Singapore Airlines has been surrounding the carrier’s Airbus A380 superjumbos, which are currently plagued with maintenance requirements and airworthiness directives and therefore spend a lot of time in the hangar lately.

This has seen several planned services to Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai and Sydney all downgauged to smaller aircraft types during the current summer 2024 season, and the pattern continues into the upcoming winter period too.

The late October 2024 to late March 2025 period will see Frankfurt flights replaced with three-class Airbus A350s over Chinese New Year, while both Hong Kong and Shanghai are having their regular daily superjumbo flights scaled back to Boeing 777-300ER operation for practically the entire five-month season.

That will mean the A380s are only consistently offered on five routes this winter, in a schedule that requires only eight of the 12 superjumbos in the fleet, in order to continuously operate.

Here’s how the the Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 schedule looks for the upcoming winter season.

Sydney SQ221/232

As you can see, only five cities (Delhi, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai and Sydney) will have consistent superjumbo service this winter.

A temporary two-week withdrawal of the A380 from Frankfurt flights in late January 2025 appears to support temporary peak CNY resumption for the type on both Hong Kong and Shanghai routes, though only for a couple of weeks.

Prior to COVID-19, SIA’s 19-strong fleet of A380s served eight cities, including daily New York services.

“Fifth freedom” routes

Singapore Airlines will continue to operate four “fifth freedom” routes during the winter season, on which it has traffic rights to sell tickets and provide award redemptions to passengers travelling solely between these cities.

  • Frankfurt to/from New York JFK (Boeing 777-300ER)
  • Manchester to/from Houston (Airbus A350 Long Haul)
  • Milan to/from Barcelona (Airbus A350 Long Haul)
  • Tokyo to/from Los Angeles (Boeing 777-300ER)

Note that it is not possible to buy or redeem tickets to travel solely on the following Singapore Airlines routes:

  • Johannesburg to Cape Town
  • Cape Town to Johannesburg

On these flights, you must be travelling to or from Singapore.

Which routes are still missing?

With 79 destinations across the Singapore Airlines and former SilkAir network now reinstated, it’s interesting to consider which cities or airports are still to be added to the list (or not, as the case may be).

* Restarted, but suspended again from 27th October 2024

SIA has still not programmed a return of its Singapore – Hong Kong – San Francisco flights since these were suspended in January 2022, when Hong Kong banned transit passengers.

Hong Kong dropped the last of its COVID-era travel restrictions in April 2023, and hasn’t had any transit restrictions since April 2022, so we were hoping to see a return for this popular service by now.

Summary

Singapore Airlines schedules get a couple of ‘big updates’ per year, and this is one of them, with flight frequencies and aircraft types confirmed for the northern winter season from late October 2024 to late March 2025.

For most routes it’s ‘status quo’, and while there’s a reduction for some destinations there are also many increases in the mix for cities like Sydney, Adelaide, Hong Kong, Auckland and Siem Reap.

There are also new routes coming this winter, to Beijing Daxing in China and Sapporo in Japan.

If you are booking flights beyond 30th March 2025, do be aware that the next summer schedule is still somewhat provisional, especially as far as aircraft types are concerned.
