Changi Airport Lounges News Qantas

Qantas extends Singapore First and Business Lounge opening hours

Qantas has extended its lounge hours at Changi Airport, with the coveted First Class lounge now opening as early as 1.30pm for lunch on selected days - and both lounges staying open till 1am to accommodate late-night Oneworld departures.

Two popular Oneworld lounges at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 1 are the longstanding Qantas International Business Lounge, which caters to those flying in Business Class, and the newer (and somewhat swankier) Qantas Singapore First Lounge, for those departing in First Class with a Oneworld carrier.

Both lounges are also accessible to those holding sufficient Oneworld frequent flyer status, prior to departure on a Oneworld-operated flight from any terminal at the airport, including when jetting off on the likes of Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific.

Now there’s some good news for those departing earlier in the day, and later at night, with extended hours now in place at these two facilities, including a proper lunchtime opening on several days at the First Class lounge.

Effective from 26th October 2025, the start of the northern winter schedule season, the opening hours at the Qantas Singapore First Lounge have been extended, as follows.

Saturday 3.15pm – 11pm 1.30pm – 1am
Sunday 3.15pm – 11pm 2.30pm – 1am

Earlier opening of this lounge at 1.30pm or 2.30pm depending on the day of the week is welcome for Oneworld Emerald members accessing this lounge prior to afternoon flights, like the 3.25pm and 4.35pm Malaysia Airlines departures to Kuala Lumpur, and the 4.45pm Cathay Pacific service to Hong Kong.

Extended opening at the end of the day until 1am is also great news for those departing on flights like Cathay’s 1.25am to Hong Kong, JAL’s 2.20am to Tokyo Haneda and Qatar Airways’ 3.15am to Doha.

Previously these passengers had to leave the lounge when boarding for QF1 to London was called, but that will no longer be the case – and the facility sure will empty out significantly once that superjumbo service is on its way.

Also effective from 26th October 2025, the opening hours at the Qantas Singapore Business Lounge have been extended, as follows.

This lounge will continue to offer an additional morning opening window on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, designed to cater for eligible passengers departing on daytime Europe flights operated by Qantas partner airline Air France.

Specifically, these are:

  • Tuesday
    AF181 to Paris at 10.55am
  • Friday
    AF181 to Paris at 10.55am
  • Sunday
    AF181 to Paris at 10.55am

Crucially though, that doesn’t stop eligible travellers departing on other Oneworld flights, or those on the evening bank of Qantas flights taking advantage of early check-in, from also accessing the lounge during these morning timings.

As with the First Lounge, daily extension of opening until 1am is an added benefit for those on early-hours Oneworld departures, and the lounge should become blissfully serene once QF1 to London boards shortly after 10pm.

Here’s how the lounge access rules work for these two facilities at Changi T1.

Business Lounge

Qantas Club members flying on a Qantas (QF) or Jetstar (JQ) flight number are permitted access.

Note that Jetstar flights from Singapore Changi Airport will depart from Terminal 2 as of 21st January 2026, allowing for an easier lounge-to-gate trip for travellers using these lounges before departure (currently, Jetstar uses the distant Terminal 4).

Back in late 2019 Qantas opened its Singapore First Lounge, a fantastic facility catering to its own First Class passengers, Qantas Platinum and Oneworld Emerald status holders, and both Air France and Oneworld First Class guests.

Here the game goes up a notch – with à la carte dining undeniably the centrepiece, rivalling even SIA’s The Private Room.

There are also fantastic shower suites, each of which include an impressive artificial skylight to help you adjust to a new time zone, plus a cocktail bar.

Check out our comprehensive review of this lounge to see what you can expect.

The Qantas Singapore International Lounge is one of the best Business Class lounges at Singapore Changi Airport, including a manned bar, ample shower suites and excellent food options.

The facility has a huge 600-seat capacity, which is much-needed during the evening peak of Qantas departures that includes Airbus A380 services to London and Australia.

On the other hand, that makes it an enormous space for only a handful of morning Oneworld and partner airline departures, which is the case for some of its opening periods.

The lounge even offers a made-to-order food menu, in addition to a self-serve buffet selection.

Shower facilities are available for those who want to freshen up before their flight, with 20 private shower suites offered in this huge lounge.

There’s also super fast Wi-Fi, clocking in at 62 Mbps during our last visit.

Despite the lack of champagne, this lounge also boasts a full bar, including Little Creatures beer on tap.

We reviewed the lounge in September 2019, shortly before it was forced to close due to the pandemic, and aside from a lack of champagne (sparkling wine is offered), we rate it as among the better Business Class lounges out there.

The extended opening hours of these lounges won’t only benefit those with early departures, since Qantas participates in Changi Airport’s Early Check-In (ECI) programme at Jewel Changi Airport.

That means from 8am to 3.15pm each day, Qantas passengers can check in for their flight, drop their bags and have their boarding passes issued, allowing them to proceed to the transit (airside) area to dine, shop and lounge-hop to their content, prior to a much later departure the same day.

From 3.15pm onwards, check-in for all Qantas flights shifts to the regular check-in desks at Terminal 1 Row 8, regardless of your flight departure time.

Qatar Airways also has an excellent Premium Lounge at Changi T1, and it’s worth remembering about this one if you’re departing in Business Class with Qatar Airways or a Oneworld carrier, with daily opening as follows:

  • 7.30am – 10.30am
  • 3.45 pm – 3.10am

What’s inconsistent about the Qatar lounge is that it isn’t open to those with Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status travelling in Economy or Premium Economy cabins. This lounge restricts access only to those flying on Qatar Airways or a Oneworld carrier in First or Business Class.

That means the Qantas lounges are the go-to option for Qatar Privilege Club Gold and Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status holders flying Economy on Qatar Airways out of Singapore, who are otherwise directed to the (very average) SATS lounge at Changi.

Qantas certainly won’t complain – Qatar Airways (or at least some other FFP) pays the Aussie carrier a fee for every passenger who passes the threshold this way, as we outlined in our detailed article about the financial background to lounge access.

Summary

These extended opening hours at both Singapore Qantas lounges are a nice improvement for eligible travellers departing from Changi Airport.

With the First Lounge now opening as early as 1.30pm on most days and both facilities staying open until 1am daily, Qantas has addressed a gap in lounge availability for some mid-afternoon and late-night departures.

These changes are particularly valuable for Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members who previously had limited options when flying with partner airlines outside the evening peak Qantas departure hours. Combined with Changi’s Early Check-In option, passengers now have much greater flexibility to enjoy these premium facilities at a wider range of departure times.

Whether you’re catching an afternoon flight to Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia Airlines or a red-eye service to Tokyo with JAL, there’s now a quality lounge option available to start your journey in comfort.

  1. That means passengers travelling in first class on those morning AF departures won’t be able to avail of the Qantas First lounge, and have to make do with just the Business lounge.

    1. The daytime AF181 SIN-CDG flights on Tue, Fri, Sun are operated by Boeing 787-9s, which do not have a First Class cabin – it tops out at Business Class.

Only the evening AF257 has First Class, with those pax well looked after in the QF First lounge thanks to the opening hours.

  2. They need to revise their queue management system as well. Whenever their QF1 and QF2 are delayed, then it is mandated that no entry will be allowed for oneworld members.

  3. It may not be a popular opinion especially among those who hold top-tier status in their FFP, but to open Qantas Business Lounge to those who fly on Jetstar Business Max fare is a very welcoming policy. Jetstar Business is similar like Scoot Plus, and those who fly on Scoot Plus don’t even have access to the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge. It would be nice if SQ can open this access to their gold lounge if the flyer is also holding at least Elite Gold, so they can compete with Qantas.

  4. “ the 4.45pm Cathay Pacific service to Hong Kong”.

    You must be kidding.
No reasonable person would leave T4 CX lounge just to use the QF lounge.
