Foodpanda doubles KrisFlyer earn rate to 2 miles per dollar

You'll now earn 2 KrisFlyer miles per dollar spent at over 6,000 restaurants in Singapore with foodpanda

In March this year we revealed that you could start earning KrisFlyer miles on your foodpanda orders, delivering to your door in Singapore from over 6,000 restaurants island-wide. It remains the only food delivery service allowing you to directly accrue miles into your KrisFlyer account.

It’s good news from October 2019 – foodpanda just doubled the earning rate for these orders from 1 mile per dollar to 2 miles per dollar. The catch? You’ll still have to spend S$35 or more on your order in total to be eligible for KrisFlyer miles earning.

GST and delivery fees are included, so provided the order total comes in at S$35.00 or more, you’ll earn miles (70 in that example).

Foodpanda briefly reduced the minimum spend for KrisFlyer miles earning to S$20 in September 2019, but has since raised it back to S$35 with the start this new 2 miles per dollar offer.

The promotion is valid until 31st December 2019, though hopefully this increase in the earn rate is a good sign that the deal is likely to be made permanent.

How to earn

When you place a foodpanda order using the app, at the checkout stage click on your contact details (the line which displays your email address).

This will allow you to enter your KrisFlyer number. Note that the name on your foodpanda account must match the one on your KrisFlyer account.

It’s the same process if you order through the foodpanda website, just click ‘Edit’ next to the ‘Personal Details’ section of the checkout page and you can enter your KrisFlyer number there.

After you’ve entered your KrisFlyer number once, it remembers it for future orders both on the app and the website.

Note: foodpanda also has a free delivery promo running for October, enter promo code ‘FREE’ in the ‘Do you have a voucher?’ section at the checkout stage.

When will the miles credit to KrisFlyer?

Miles from your foodpanda orders credit to your KrisFlyer account “up to 30 business days after each successful order” according to the terms and conditions.

We’ve used the service several times since KrisFlyer miles earning started in March 2019, and can confirm that in fact the miles appear to be credited in monthly ‘batches’ (around 6th to 9th of each month, for transactions made in the previous month).

That means if you’ve made a number of orders in a given period you’ll see them all appear in your KrisFlyer account on the same day, but as individual transactions.

These foodpanda transactions were all made on different days, but credited to KrisFlyer on the same day

The quickest order date to credit date we’ve had so far is 3 weeks, the longest about 7 weeks. This therefore certainly isn’t a quick way to earn miles (we’ve got a list of those, if you’re interested), but nonetheless you should see them credit within a month or two.

Which credit card to use

These 2 miles per dollar will credit directly to your KrisFlyer account, but of course you’ll be wanting to maximise your miles earning by using the best credit card you hold for the transaction too.

Personally we are using the Citi Rewards Visa and Mastercard for foodpanda orders, which are successfully earning 4 miles per dollar for these transactions. That gives us an effective earn rate of 6 miles per dollar in total under this new deal, however it is capped at S$1,000 spend per card per month.

Between the two of us we have four Citi Rewards cards, a Visa and Mastercard each, so with a S$2,000 monthly cap each this is usually not an issue.

Here are the cards we have identified which earn 4 miles per dollar on foodpanda orders:

Even if you don’t use a credit card offering enhanced miles earning for online spend, the entry-level BOC Elite Miles card earns 1.5 mpd on local spend and will therefore net you a total of 3.5 mpd on foodpanda orders of S$35 or more.

Cards earning less than that, like the DBS Altitude at 1.2 miles per dollar for local spend, will still allow you to achieve something in the order of 3.2 miles per dollar in total for foodpanda transactions.

Summary

A nice deal to earn an extra mile per dollar on food delivery orders just got even better – you’ll now earn 2 miles per dollar with foodpanda orders of S$35 or above in addition to the regular miles you normally earn on your credit card.

That means adding this offer to credit card earn rates of up to 4 miles per dollar in some cases, like the Citi Rewards cards, for a total of 6 miles per dollar.

Foodpanda is probably the worst of the bunch in customer service / delivery terms in our opinion (with Deliveroo and Grab Food being better, at ‘mediocre’), but if the price is right and they are delivering from a restaurant of your choice – 2 extra KrisFlyer miles per dollar is always a good plus.

  1. Ouch, it is hard for me to reach the $35/order. There was one weekend, I ordered extra food (lunch+dinner) just to meet the $20.
