Singapore Airlines extends KrisFlyer Elite and PPS status for a year

Singapore Airlines is extending your KrisFlyer Elite or PPS Club status level by 12 months due to the continued impact of the coronavirus outbreak

Singapore Airlines has announced that due to the continued operational impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting uncertainty over travel plans for many of its frequent flyers, most KrisFlyer and PPS Club memberships will be extended for one year.

In addition, Elite Gold Rewards and PPS Rewards that are due to expire between July 2020 and December 2020 will now remain valid until 31st March 2021.

Membership extension

Provided your existing KrisFlyer Elite Silver, Elite Gold, PPS Club or Solitaire PPS Club membership expires between now and the end of February 2021, or it expired in March 2020, your membership will be renewed for a further year even if you don’t (or didn’t) accrue the usual Elite Miles or PPS Value required.

KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Gold status usually require you to maintain 25,000 or 50,000 Elite miles per membership year, while PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club status require 25,000 or 50,000 in annual PPS Value

There is no additional benefit if you have already accrued the respective renewal threshold, or you go on to do so before your original membership expiry date, since this would automatically result in your membership tier renewing for another year.

Note that at your usual renewal date, Elite Miles or PPS Value accrued will be reset to zero.

Elite Gold Rewards extension

The following Elite Gold Rewards that are expiring between July 2020 and December 2020 will be extended, with validity until 31st March 2021:

  • Double KrisFlyer Miles Reward
  • Short-haul Advance Upgrade
  • Premium Economy Advance Upgrade

Singapore Airlines has said that this will be reflected through your account progressively before the rewards expire, so don’t expect the validity dates to change immediately.

PPS Rewards extension

Similarly the following PPS Rewards that are expiring between July 2020 and December 2020 will be extended, with validity until 31st March 2021:

  • Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards
  • 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
  • Advance Upgrade

The extension of PPS Rewards does not apply to Standby Upgrade Rewards.

As with Elite Gold Rewards, you may notice extension to the relevant expiry dates for your PPS Rewards as they approach their original expiry dates.

What about expiring miles?

At this stage Singapore Airlines has not announced any extension to the three-year validity window of KrisFlyer miles, based on the date they were originally credited to your account.

As it stands you will still have to ‘use or lose’ these prior to expiry, or pay to have them extended.

If the coronavirus situation prolongs further we suspect there may be some announcement on this later.

Do take particular note of the mechanism Singapore Airlines will use to extend your PPS Club membership, by applying a reserve value credit to your account to cover any shortfall.

A generous 12-month extension to KrisFlyer Elite and PPS Club status levels will be welcomed by the airline’s frequent flyers, most of whom are currently grounded as the airline has severely cut flight schedules in the past few weeks and continues to do so during the weeks ahead.

Singapore Airlines joins the likes of Qantas, Emirates and British Airways in making at least some concession to their high-flying customers, with a full-year status extension being among the best we’ve seen offered lately.

  3. I have a PPS in flight shopping voucher that expires in May 2020. Is there any word on whether these will be extended?
