What Pelago offers

Currently Pelago is offering a range of around 100 experiences and activities in Singapore including theme park admission tickets, food and drink tours, and wellness treatments, with packages ranging from S$4 to S$488 per person.

For example, Pelago is offering adult admission to the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck at S$17, a discount on the usual rate of $25 and the same rate that Klook is offering.

In this case though each adult ticket is also earning you 17 KrisFlyer miles, on top of the credit card points you would normally accrue.

There are even some limited staycation offers for the Capitol Kempinski, Shangri-La and the Sofitel City Centre. Hopefully that list can be further expanded given the significant interest in staycations while international borders remain closed.

Pelago is a licensed travel agent and plans to expand its catalog to include other cities in future. The company is already hiring for marketing managers in Australia and Thailand.

KrisFlyer Miles earning

Every time you make a booking with Pelago, you will earn 1 KrisFlyer mile for each Singapore Dollar you spend, transferred directly into your KrisFlyer account.

In a similar fashion, Klook lets you earn Klook Credits for discounts against future experiences when you make activity and experience bookings through its site.

1 mpd isn’t a huge earning potential, but comes in addition to your regular credit card points accrual, and could make you favour this site over competitors when the price is the same or similar for your chosen experience.

It should also be a relatively easy way to top up your KrisFlyer balance by a small amount, for example if you fall just short of a redemption threshold, with the miles crediting within one week after you complete your activity.

  • Discover activities on Pelago’s Destination pages and select an activity of your preference
  • Enter your 10-digit KrisFlyer membership number when completing your booking at checkout. You can also link your KrisFlyer and Pelago accounts on the ‘My Account’ page
  • The KrisFlyer miles will be credited to your account one week after you complete your activity

You must ensure that your Pelago booking is made under your name, as it appears in your KrisFlyer membership records, to be eligible for miles earning.

Miles earned will be calculated based on the final amount paid for the booking including taxes, after eligible discounts have been applied, rounded up to the next whole dollar. For example:

  • A S$24.00 payment will earn 24 KrisFlyer Miles
  • A S$162.12 payment will earn 163 KrisFlyer Miles

Any cancelled bookings will be ineligible to earn miles.

For full terms and conditions, see the Pelago x KrisFlyer page here.

Which card to use

At this stage it’s not clear what Merchant Category Code (MCC) Pelago transactions will fall under, so it’s too early to say which bonus miles cards you should definitely use to maximise your miles earning with up to 4 mpd on top of the 1 mpd you’ll be picking up directly.

Assuming Pelago will fall under MCC 4722: Travel Agencies and Tour Operators, we would recommend trying:

Update: The Pelago team has confirmed to Mainly Miles that credit card transactions through the site do indeed process under MCC 4722.
Card Earn
Rate
Notes
DBS WWMC 4 mpd For online spend, capped at S$2,000 per calendar month.
HSBC Revo Card SmallHSBC Revolution
4 mpd For online spend at travel agencies (MCC 4722), capped at S$1,000 per calendar month.

Citi Lazada
2 mpd For travel transactions under MCC 4722, capped at S$2,250 spend per statement cycle but combined with other 4 mpd / 2 mpd bonus spend (i.e. S$2,250 cap assumes your only bonus category spend in a statement cycle is Travel).

If you don’t have any of the cards listed above, just stick to your best general spend miles earning credit card. Remember to avoid the Citi Rewards card, which will only earn 0.4 mpd at Pelago, due to MCC 4712 being specifically excluded from the bonus earn rate for online spend.

Summary

It’s always nice to have another KrisFlyer miles earning option, with Pelago offering a range of experiences and attraction tickets in Singapore in a similar fashion to Klook, but with 1 mpd thrown in once you’ve completed the activity or used your voucher.

If the price is right, it’s probably worth using Pelago to earn yourself an extra mile per dollar over and above your regular credit card points for the spend.

There is also a good list of 4 mpd bonus credit cards to use for Pelago transactions, allowing you to earn up to 5 mpd in total.
