New to CardUp DBS promotion

If you’re new to CardUp, or have signed up but never made a payment using the service, you’ll be able to use this promo code to unlock a competitive 1.7% fee for a one-time payment, or the first payment in a recurring series.

DBS American Express cards are excluded from the offer.

The offer is available for a payment scheduled on CardUp between 9th December 2021 and 28th February 2022, both dates inclusive. The payment due date must be on or before 3rd March 2022, being the last date on which it must arrive at the recipient.

This takes account of CardUp’s requirement to schedule payments at least three working days before the due date, to allow for processing.

Simply use the promo code DBSCARDNEW at the ‘Amount’ stage, prior to uploading your documents and reviewing the payment.

DBSCARDUPNEW 2.6% 1.7%
One-time payment with a DBS or POSB card, capped at S$30,000. Full T&Cs here.

Note that the payment amount is capped at S$30,000, after which CardUp’s regular 2.6% fee will kick in for any amount above S$30,000.

The offer is valid for the first 300 users to successfully apply the promo code. Full terms and conditions for use of this promo code are available here.

Existing CardUp DBS promotion

If you’re a DBS cardholder but you already have a CardUp account that you’ve used before to make payments, there’s still a discount on offer when setting up recurring payments.

DBS American Express cards are excluded from the offer.

As with the new user deal, your first payment in the recurring series must be scheduled between 9th December 2021 and 28th February 2022, with a payment due date must on or before 3rd March 2022.

DBSCARDUP 2.6% 1.8%
First two payments in a weekly or monthly recurring series, capped at S$30,000 per payment. Full details here.

The offer is valid for the first 300 users to successfully apply the promo code. Full terms and conditions for use of this promo code are available here.

Cost per mile

Here’s how the cost per mile looks for the payment at the promotional 1.7% or 1.8% fee levels.

Card Miles per S$1 Cost per mile
(1.7% fee)
Cost per mile
(1.8% fee)
DBS Insignia 1.6 1.04¢ 1.11¢
DBS Altitude Visa 1.2 1.39¢ 1.47¢

These all represent very competitive rates to buy KrisFlyer miles, which we value at 1.9 cents each.

How to unlock the discounted fee

Last year, CardUp revamped its user interface, but don’t worry it remains quite logical to set up a new payment and apply one of these promo codes.

Set up your payment as normal on CardUp and at the stage where you enter your payment amount and bill reference there is a ‘Promo Code’ field, just before the applicable fee is quoted.

This is where you can enter the DBSCARDUPNEW or DBSCARDUP code, depending on which offer you are using.

Note that entering the code at this stage will not change the fee, you’ll have to click ‘Continue’ to see the discount reflected.

You’ll be eligible to use these CardUp promo codes as a new cardholder, and there’s plenty of time to get your hands on one between now and the end of February 2022 if you are keen to take advantage.

Citi PayAll offer

If you’re a Citi cardholder with an ULTIMA, Prestige, PremierMiles or Rewards credit card, don’t forget there’s a superior offer currently running through the bank’s PayAll service.

This allows you to buy miles for 1 cent each thanks to an enhanced 2 mpd earn rate for payments totalling S$3,000 to S$90,000, made between 1st January 2022 and 31st March 2022.

Those taking advantage of this offer for the first time (i.e. new PayAll users) will also receive S$50 in GrabFood vouchers.

Other CardUp offers

CardUp has also recently extended some of its offers for other personal payment types:

  • General Payments: 2.6% 2.25% extended until 31st December 2022 (code GET225)
  • Recurring Payments: 2.6% 1.85% extended until 31st December 2022 (code RECURRING185)
  • Rent: 2.6% 1.79% extended until 30th June 2022 (code SAVERENT179)

See CardUp’s pricing page for further details including full terms and conditions.

Summary

Promotions for using your credit card to make a range of payments even when your recipients do not accept cards have never been more competitive than they have over the last 12 months or so, and it looks like 2022 will be no different.

That’s great news if you want to accrue extra miles at competitive rates on payments you’re already making anyway, as quarantine-free travel hopefully continues to unlock.

This new promotion for DBS/POSB cards using CardUp is among the most competitive we’ve seen, especially for new-to-CardUp customers.

Of course the latest Citi PayAll 2 mpd offer with a higher 2% fee eclipses this CardUp x DBS deal as the best way to make almost any payment between now and the end of March, but if you’re not holding an applicable Citi card – this is probably the next best option right now.
