Singapore Airlines is back with its monthly Spontaneous Escapes deal for travel during June 2022, offering 30% off Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class routes to a variety of destinations on the network.
Unfortunately the list isn’t too extensive this time round, amidst the main school holiday season and pent-up travel demand in the region.
As usual, you’ll need to book these ‘Promo’ awards by 31st May 2022, for travel next month, but remember there’s no flexibility or refunds allowed.
Redemption is only available online at singaporeair.com, not via the mobile app.

Terms and conditions
Here are the terms and conditions for the Spontaneous Escapes promotion.
Spontaneous Escapes
May 2022 offer
- A 30% discount on saver award redemptions for travel to and from selected destinations in June 2022.
- Redeem online at singaporeair.com by 31st May 2022.
- Flights are non-refundable and non-changeable.
- Blackout dates apply on some routes (see lists below).
- Book one-way legs if the discount only applies on one of the two (or more) flights you need. You cannot book one-way Promo (Spontaneous Escapes) and one-way Saver awards in the same booking.
- Travel must be completed by 30th June 2022.
- Book as many redemptions as you like at Spontaneous Escapes rates – it’s not capped.
- Waitlist Promo redemptions are included in the discount, however the waitlist must clear on or before 31st May. If it clears after that, the regular ‘Saver’ or ‘Advantage’ rate will apply.
- For any flights cancelled by SIA, or if an SQ-operated flight was removed from a Spontaneous Escapes booking due to COVID-19 and governmental regulatory changes, the miles redeemed in the unused portion of the ticket will be refunded with no additional fees charged.
- Requests to change any booking details, or to retain the ticket for future use will not be granted.
In a nutshell – be sure to have firm travel plans if you’re locking in a Spontaneous Escapes deal.

Book under the ‘Promo’ award category
One of the annoying things about the KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes offer pre-pandemic was that you had to select the Saver award rate for the applicable discounted flight in order to then see the discounted rate reflected.

That made it difficult to search for these offers without referring to the master list of discounted routes, since the new rate was only displayed after you clicked on a valid flight.
It was a cause of much confusion, and also meant you had to be on top of any valid date ranges or blackout periods for your preferred route.
Thankfully Singapore Airlines now has a new way of displaying flights with discounted award rates – the new ‘Promo’ category, making it easy to spot the discounted flights when searching.

This also means Spontaneous Escapes award capacity can be loaded as a subset of the Saver award space, allowing you to continue to book at Saver rates (if you prefer the flexibility, for example), or allowing the airline to stop offering Spontaneous Escapes rates on a particular flight, but not necessarily having to remove the Saver rate at the same time, like they did before.
What if you already booked?
If you have already redeemed your miles on a flight that has now become part of the Spontaneous Escapes offer, unfortunately there’s no simple way to change it and pay the reduced miles rate.
You will have to book at the Spontaneous Escapes rate, then cancel the existing booking and pay the miles redeposit fee (don’t do it the other way round, in case the Spontaneous Escapes Promo space disappears in the meantime!).
This will require you to have sufficient miles in your account.
If you need the miles from the original booking to make the Spontaneous Escapes one due an insufficient balance, be very careful!
Since you will first have to cancel the original booking, you are now at the mercy of the Spontaneous Escapes space remaining available on the flight, and it can take a few days for the miles from your original cancelled booking to be re-credited to your account.
Summary
It’s great to see the ever-popular KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes deal back again, with monthly discounts for those making short-term travel plans, though the selection for June 2022 isn’t too generous compared to the relaunch offer back in April and May.
Still, if there’s something of interest now’s a good time to jump on it, with several popular destinations including Bangkok and Phuket on the list in Business Class, plus a range of options featuring the new Boeing 737-8 MAX Business Class.
Remember if you’re unable to secure a return flight at the discounted rates, book two one-way tickets instead. You’ll pay the ‘Promo’ rate one-way and the usual ‘Saver’ rate for the non-discounted sector but at least the whole itinerary will not be at the standard rate (and a 15% saving is still welcome).
Will you be locking in any of the Spontaneous Escapes offers for June 2022? Let us know in the comments section below.

Can I booked one way instead or must redeem both ways for business class?
One-way is fine
Perth is not listed under the discounted Business Class flights, but is mentioned under the Summary at the end of the article.
Thanks corrected!
