UOB PRVI Miles offering 12,000 miles sign-up bonus (no applicant cap!)

Earn 12,000 bonus miles with a new UOB PRVI Miles credit card when you spend S$1,500 in the first 30 days, with no applicant cap.

UOB has launched a new sign-up bonus for its UOB PRVI Miles credit cards, where you’ll earn 12,000 miles bonus for spending S$1,500 within the first 30 days of card membership, and better still it looks guaranteed this time, with the bank ditching its usual upper applicant cap.

While the PRVI Miles sign-up bonuses are usually one of UOB’s ‘gambling’ offers, open to the first xxx applicants to meet the spend criteria, in this latest version of the offer it’s completely uncapped, making the deal good for 12,000 miles total bonus miles, for a relatively achievable spend level.

Here’s how the deal is structured.

Sign-up bonus

Provided you’re a new UOB credit card holder, you’ll get a 12,000 miles bonus provided you spend at least $1,500 on the card within 30 calendar days of your account opening date.

New To Bank? UOB defines ‘new-to-bank’ customers for this promotion as those who:

  • are not currently an existing principal cardholder of a UOB credit card; and
  • have not have cancelled their UOB Credit Card as a principal cardholder within 6 months prior to the commencement of the promotion period

That means if you cancelled on 31st December 2021 or earlier and you don’t hold any UOB credit cards, you’ll be treated as a new applicant and be eligible for the sign-up bonus in this case.

Again, this element is not capped. Everyone is eligible, so if you play by the (fairly simple) rules, the bonus miles should be credited.

How it works

You must apply online and be approved between 1st July 2022 and 31st July 2022, then meet the S$1,500 spend criteria within 30 days, to receive your bonus miles.

Do note that UOB advertises this offer as a ‘21,000 welcome miles’ promotion, because it includes 9,000 miles you would earn meeting the minimum spend wholly within its 6 mpd spend categories!

While that’s probably not realistic anyway, you can also do this at any time of year, so these miles do not form part of the bonus – which is simply 12,000 miles.

The minimum S$1,500 spend can be met in SGD or FCY transactions, with both in-store and online transactions included.

The bonus will be awarded in two batches, for some reason:

  • UNI$4,500 and
  • UNI$1,500.

In total this is UNI$6,000, which converts to 12,000 KrisFlyer miles, or 12,000 Asia Miles if you prefer.

The Bonus UNI$ will be credited to your Eligible Card account by 31st October 2022, which is three months after the eligible spend period ends.

Terms and Conditions

Full terms and conditions for the sign-up offer are available here.

Do take note of the excluded transactions, when considering the S$1,500 minimum spend to trigger the bonus miles, since UOB doesn’t allow certain categories of spending to qualify.

There is also a rather cryptic new section in the terms and conditions, which reads:

Bonus UNI$ will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis, whilst stocks last and subject to availability. UOB shall not be required to notify and/or update on the availability of the Bonus UNI$ for this Promotion.

UOB

Hopefully this is just the usual bank term, covering them to effectively withdraw the promotion whenever they like without telling you, which is common with most credit card offers, but do be aware they could technically point to this term and say “sorry – bonus UNI$ ran out!”.

Let’s hope not!

Our review

The UOB PRVI Miles card isn’t a bad one to hold, earning 1.4 mpd on local spend and 2.4 mpd overseas.

There are even some bonus rates like 6 mpd on Agoda and Expedia and regular bonus offers throughout the year like 4.4 mpd on transactions like bus and train rides or up to S$3,000 of overseas spend, for example.

Summary

If you’re familiar most UOB sign-up ‘promotions’ – this is a rare opportunity not to worry about the applicant cap!

While this promotion usually leaves you wondering whether you’ll qualify for the miles element, this time everyone is eligible, provided you haven’t held a UOB credit card for the last six months and also don’t currently hold another UOB credit card.

Hopefully this is a more permanent policy shift for UOB promotions, but just in case it’s a one off this might be a good time to pick up the PRVI Miles card, and take advantage of a few guaranteed extra miles in the process.

  1. Yeah I don’t like that “while stocks last” term in the TNC, it seems like they pull the wool over our eyes. Remove cap but there still only so many miles to go around…

    1. Yes I really hope that’s not what they are doing here!

If there even is an upper limit for UNI$ to be dished out during this promotion, without knowing what the total is it’s impossible to determine the chance of success. Is it 1 million, 10 million, unlimited?

If you’re concerned I’d apply early and make the S$1,500 spend straight away. Hopefully can get some data points here from those who potentially apply later and only meet the spend at the end of July!

  2. PRVI MILES is aimed at students studying overseas, so UNI$ usage on Travel Insider and UOB Travel really helps them cushion the burden especially when your home country currency is more volatile.
