Singapore Airlines has released its regular Spontaneous Escapes offer for travel in May 2023, with 30% off the usual Saver miles redemption rates when you lock in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class awards to and from selected cities on the network over the next two weeks.
If there’s a destination on the list you’re looking for, and you can make firm travel plans, it’s always worth considering snapping up one of these seats while this discount is available.

Deals this month include Singapore to Sydney and Singapore to Melbourne in Business Class on the Airbus A380 for 47,950 miles, or Singapore to Christchurch for 47,950 miles in Business Class on the Airbus A350 Long Haul. London to Singapore for 29,400 miles in Economy Class may also be useful for some, but beware the very high taxes and fees!
You can also redeem Copenhagen to Singapore in Business Class for 72,450 miles.
Regionally, restriction-free Hong Kong also makes an appearance again, with award rates of 11,550 miles in Economy Class, 18,550 miles in Premium Economy and 23,800 miles in Business Class worth a look.
Do note that blackout dates on many routes are quite extensive for this offer.
If you do find a route of interest, you’ll need to book these ‘Promo’ awards over the next two weeks – between 17th April 2023 and 30th April 2023 – for travel in May 2023, but remember there’s no flexibility and in most cases no refunds are allowed.
Redemption continues to only be available online at singaporeair.com, not via the mobile app, according to Singapore Airlines, though I am still having no problems accessing the deal via the iOS app, so this issue looks almost certain to have been resolved, or perhaps only affects Android users.
Terms and conditions
Here are the terms and conditions for the Spontaneous Escapes promotion.

May 2023 offer
- A 30% discount on saver award redemptions for travel to and/or from selected destinations in May 2023.
- Redeem online at singaporeair.com between 17th April 2023 and 30th April 2023.
- Flights are non-refundable and non-changeable.
- Blackout dates apply on some routes (see the full list below for details).
- Book one-way legs if the discount only applies on one of the two (or more) flights you need. You cannot book one-way Promo (Spontaneous Escapes) and one-way Saver / Advantage awards in the same booking.
- Travel must be completed by 31st May 2023.
- Book as many redemptions as you like at Spontaneous Escapes rates – it’s not capped.
- You cannot waitlist for Promo (Spontaneous Escapes) redemptions.
- For any flights cancelled by SIA, or if a flight was removed from a Spontaneous Escapes booking due to COVID-19 and governmental regulatory changes, the miles redeemed in the unused portion of the ticket will be refunded, with no additional fees charged.
- Requests to change any booking details, or to retain the ticket for future use, will not be granted.
In a nutshell – be sure to have firm travel plans if you’re locking in a Spontaneous Escapes deal.

Book the ‘Promo’ award category
Singapore Airlines offers the Spontaneous Escapes deals under its “Promo” award category, which you’ll see alongside the usual Saver and Advantage award rates on applicable flights.

If the Promo award rate is not shown for your preferred flight, even though it is listed as part of the offer, that unfortunately means there is no availability remaining at the Spontaneous Escapes rate (but do check back later, like Saver and Advantage award space – it can come and go).
Remember, you cannot waitlist for Promo awards – it’s either available for immediate redemption, or it’s not.
The “Promo” award category also means Spontaneous Escapes award capacity can be loaded as a subset of the Saver award space. This allows you to continue to book at Saver rates (if you prefer the flexibility, for example), or allows the airline to stop offering Spontaneous Escapes rates on a particular flight, while not necessarily having to remove the Saver rate at the same time, like they did under the pre-pandemic system.
It also allows you to book at a discount for larger groups, for example if there are three of you travelling but only two Promo (Spontaneous Escapes) award seats are loaded for the flight you want to travel on, you can potentially redeem the two remaining Promo seats and one Saver seat on a separate booking, and still effectively achieve a 20% overall miles discount between you.
What if you already booked?
If you have already redeemed your miles on a flight that has now become eligible for the Spontaneous Escapes offer, unfortunately there’s no simple way to change it and pay the reduced miles rate.
You will have to book again at the Spontaneous Escapes rate, then cancel the existing booking and pay the miles redeposit fee (don’t do it the other way round, in case the Spontaneous Escapes Promo space disappears in the meantime!).
This will require you to have sufficient miles in your account to immediately lock in the Spontaneous Escapes rate.
If you need the miles from the original booking in order to make the Spontaneous Escapes one due to an insufficient balance, be very careful!
Since you will first have to cancel the original booking, you are now at the mercy of the Spontaneous Escapes space remaining available on the flight, and it can sometimes take a few days for the miles from your original cancelled booking to be re-credited to your account.
Full details
For full details of this month’s Spontaneous Escapes offer, including terms and conditions (but sadly not including the aircraft type and seat type details we have provided above!), head over to the KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promo page.
Summary
The regular monthly Spontaneous Escapes deal is back for travel in May 2023 for those who can make short-term travel plans, this month including Hong Kong, Christchurch, Sydney and Melbourne in Business Class, in addition to a host of other regularly discounted routes.
There’s even a Europe – Singapore Business Class deal for those departing from Copenhagen.
Check out the full deal here, and do refer to our seat types summary for Business Class in the tables above to pick the aircraft with the best cabin product for your routing.
Remember if you’re unable to secure a return flight at the discounted rates, book two one-way tickets instead. You’ll pay the ‘Promo’ rate one-way and the usual ‘Saver’ rate for the non-discounted sector, but at least the whole itinerary will not be at the usual rate (and a 15% saving is still welcome).
Will you be locking in any of the Spontaneous Escapes offers for May 2023? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hi, is Spontaneous Escapes campaign apply for point to point flight ? For e.g fly from to SUB-HKG, both of economy class eligible for Promo, but while i’m put KNO-HKG always shown saver rate. Please advice 🙂
Connecting flights are not supported even if both are at the Promo rate. You would have to book SUB-SIN for 14.7k in J and separately book SIN-HKG for 23.8k in J which is 38.5k total.
Not only would the itinerary then be unprotected, there would be no point in doing this because the SUB-HKG Saver rate is 34k!
Interesting to note that there are many black-out dates in the month of May.
Thanks for the update as always. Just a comment on the blackout dates though, they are very extensive this month but I don’t think you need to mention the year on each range, we all know it applies to May 2023 and not some other year!
It would declutter the tables somewhat if the year was removed in IMHO. For your consideration.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve removed the year from the blackout dates and I agree it looks a lot clearer this way. Will also adopt this for future monthly SE updates.
thanks for complete update. which one is worth, redeem now to get Award Saver or wait until next Spontaneous Escape
because I am going to fly 6 June 2023 business class for SIN-SUB
SUB quite commonly appears on Spontaneous Escapes but of course there are no guarantees for June. It depends whether you are willing to take the risk of waiting until ~15th May to find out!
Nice to know. Thank for sharing. Well noted
