UOB has a new offer for those who haven’t been using their cards to make SimplyGo transit transactions over the last six months, with a cashback deal when you charge local bus and or train rides in Singapore between now and the end of November 2023.
Unfortunately this is one of UOB’s “gambling” offers – capped at the first 1,000 to successfully meet the criteria, so if you’re going to give this one a try the best thing to do is register by SMS now, since the promotion only launched today, then clock the required rides as soon as possible.
Here’s how the deal works.
Up to S$20 cashback when you tap and ride
From 23rd October 2023 to 30th November 2023, new and existing UOB cardholders are eligible to earn up to S$20 cashback when paying local bus and/or train rides with their UOB credit card or debit card.

- Open only to those who have not made any SimplyGo transactions in the past six months prior to 23rd October 2023 (i.e. since 23rd April 2023).
- Registration via SMS is required to participate in this promotion.
- Charge at least one local bus/and or train fare via SimplyGo to your UOB card to earn S$5 cashback.
- Charge at least S$30 of local bus/and or train fares via SimplyGo to your UOB card by 30th November 2023 to earn a further S$15 cashback.
- Capped at the first 1,000 eligible participants to achieve each of these criteria.

SMS registration
To participate in this promotion, you will also have to send an SMS to UOB on 77862 during the promotion period (i.e. by 30th November 2023), in the following format:
![]() SG [space] Last 4 alphanumeric characters of your NRIC or Passport Number Example: If your NRIC is S1234567A, you will need to send “SG 567A” to 77862 |
Registration doesn’t need to be before your first eligible transaction, you just need to complete it before the end of November, but we would recommend just doing it straight away in case you forget later.
When is the cashback credited?
If you are eligible to receive the cashback, it will be credited into your UOB card account by 1st February 2024 and reflected in your card statement.
Note that the cashback cannot be withdrawn, but can only then be applied against payments for future
transactions charged to your card account, though this is quite normal for these promotions.

You will earn UNI$ for every S$5 spent on SimplyGo Transactions per submission by the merchant, except for SimplyGo Transactions performed with UOB Visa Cards, where UNI$ are earned based on the accumulated spend on SimplyGo Transactions per calendar month, and awarded on the 7th calendar day of the following month.
In reality for cards like the UOB PRVI Miles Mastercard, it’s still worth using for SimplyGo rides, because the merchant actually combines your ride transactions every five days, or every 21 transactions, or once S$15 spend is reached, whichever comes first, so you should still earn miles in most cases.
Summary
There’s no harm in registering your UOB card for this SimplyGo promotion if you’re a bus or MRT user, with up to S$20 of relatively easy cashback to be earned for your everyday rides.
As usual with UOB though, you’ll have to be among the first 1,000 to achieve it, which you certainly can’t guarantee even if you register and take all the rides today (23rd October)!

Does anyone even audit these promotions? UOB can simply pay no one and just say everyone wasn’t in the first 1000.
Uob has blocks of $5 rounding policy which means that your $19.90 transaction is only worth $15. Or worse your $4.90 (if you only take a few rides for 5 days) is worth nothing. You end up being worse off most of the time than say a standard 1.2mpd card that does not have $5 blocks. I learnt this the hard way and lost half of my points as my transactions were all low value ones.
Which UOB card are you using. They all work slightly differently in this regard for SimplyGo.
