In early May, Singapore Airlines announced the launch of its 15th destination in Europe with a return to Spanish capital Madrid from late October 2026, following a 22-year absence on the route, with five times weekly Airbus A350 service via Barcelona.
Unlike most new routes that are bookable within a few days of launch, SIA confirmed that seats on its new Madrid services would only be available for booking from June 2026, and now that they have finally gone live, there’s the usual good selection of award redemption seats in Business Class to lock in for those with advance travel plans.
Remember this is not the same inventory SIA loads for Barcelona flights. Madrid awards come from a separate ‘bucket’ and are currently a lot more generous than SIN-BCN-SIN alone.
The schedule
Here’s a reminder how the full schedule on SIA’s Madrid route for the northern winter 2026/27 season looks, with a 1 hour stop in Barcelona on the outbound flight and a 1 hour 20 minute stop in Barcelona in the return direction.

A similar schedule with the same operating days continues for the summer 2027 season from late March 2027 onwards, with some slight timing adjustments due to seasonal wind variations and slot allocations.
In both directions during the Barcelona transit, we expect that passengers will remain on board in a similar fashion to the carrier’s Cape Town via Johannesburg service.
Business Class award space
As a reminder from our previous article, here are the one-way KrisFlyer redemption rates you’ll pay by cabin on the Singapore – Madrid route.

| KrisFlyer Redemption Rates One-Way Singapore ⇄ Madrid |

| Airline / Cabin | Saver | Advantage | Access | |
| Economy | 44,000 |

|
| Business | 108,500 |

|
You’re therefore looking at 108,500 KrisFlyer miles each way for a saver award seat in Business Class.
The good news is that Singapore Airlines has loaded a decent quantity of award space on these new flights, with many services boasting two or three immediately confirmable Saver awards using KrisFlyer miles in Business Class, even for basic members.
PPS Club members may have access to even more saver award space.

In total, there are 332 Saver Business Class awards up for grabs using KrisFlyer miles over the first five months of this service.

Remember these are the airline’s 2013 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.
Here’s how the Business Class saver award space looks for (non-PPS) KrisFlyer members on the Singapore – Madrid route for all the flights currently loaded into the reservation system, as of 5.00pm Singapore Time on 8th June 2026.
Availability ramps up sharply from January 2027, peaking at 100 saver seats in February (low season for Europe travel), so round-trip planners chasing matched dates will find it far easier in the back half of the season, rather than at launch.

As you can see there are two or three instantly confirmable Business Saver awards on many flights on this route, which is great for couples.
As we mentioned above, award space here is specific to SIN-MAD and MAD-SIN routings (via BCN both ways) – travelling on the exact same flights to or from Barcelona don’t offer such generous award space, as it comes from a separate availability bucket.
This is often misunderstood but can also be seen with Business Class Saver awards available on the current SQ378 SIN-BCN (via MXP), even though there are no J awards on SIN-MXP alone on the same date.
It also applies to flights like SQ12 SIN-NRT-LAX vs. SIN-NRT alone, the same flight on the same day sometimes has awards to LAX but not to NRT.

Do note that this is a snapshot of award space at the time of writing, and is of course subject to change. You can search the latest award space for your preferred dates via the Singapore Airlines website.
While Madrid is a new year-round route for SIA, do note that summer 2027 flights from late March 2027 onwards have not yet been loaded, so while it should be possible to search and redeem through to late May 2027 you’ll have to be patient if you’re looking to travel during that period.
Keep an eye out for the summer schedule update going live on SIA’s site.
Taxes are low from Spain
One good piece of news regarding this route for award travellers is the low taxes and fees associated with departures from Spain, which are among the cheapest in Europe. A Saver Business Class award on this route costs:
- SIN-MAD: 108,500 KrisFlyer miles + S$65.20
- MAD-SIN: 108,500 KrisFlyer miles + EUR 25.42 (~S$38)

It’s a far cry from routes like London Heathrow and London Gatwick to Singapore, where taxes of around S$520 are payable on top of your miles outlay.
Summary
Singapore Airlines’ new five-times-weekly Madrid service via Barcelona has finally opened for booking, and there’s no shortage of Business Class saver space to grab.
We count 332 KrisFlyer saver awards in Business across the winter 2026/27 season, with many departures offering two or three immediately confirmable seats, ideal for couples.
Saver redemption is 108,500 miles each way, and with Spanish departure taxes among the lowest in Europe (around EUR 25 from Madrid), it’s one of the better-value awards to and from the Spanish capital in a lie-flat seat.
