Last month you may recall that hotel booking site Agoda offered a three-day 20% off promotion for HSBC cardholders in Singapore when making staycation bookings for the rest of 2020. That was great news for those who had recently picked up the revamped HSBC Revolution credit card, since it meant earning 4 mpd for the payment on top of the attractive discount.

It’s back
If you missed out last time, or want to make another booking, HSBC and Agoda are once again running a three-day flash sale for cardholders booking staycations between Friday 18th September and Sunday 20th September, for stays through to the the end of 2020.

This is in place of the usual year-round 12% discount for HSBC cardholders.
Agoda 12% Discount

That same link is where you’ll access the 20% discount flash sale this weekend.
Although the discount is offered across all HSBC credit cards in Singapore, combining it with the Revolution’s new 4 mpd rate for Agoda bookings makes the deal even sweeter, so this is the one to go for in our opinion.
Your 20% discount applies to the room rate only (excluding taxes). Even if you took advantage of the offer last time, you’ll be eligible to do so again this weekend. Details of the promotion including terms and conditions are available here.
How it works
- Make your hotel booking via agoda.com/hsbcstaycay
- Stay Period: Now to 31st December 2020
- To benefit from 20% off, booking must be made from 18th to 20th September 2020, otherwise a discount rate of 12% applies
- Book a ‘Promo Eligible’ hotel and rate (not all are included)
- Select your HSBC credit card at the payment stage

Example
Here’s an example of how the HSBC Agoda staycation booking discount at the current 12% rate looks.

This last stage is where you’ll see the discount reflect at the enhanced 20% level when booking between 18th September and 20th September, for stays from now until the end of the year.
Staycation deals
Most of the hotels now open for staycation bookings in Singapore have some form of deal on offer when you book direct. You won’t necessarily get the best rate, nor the additional staycation perks, if you book through Agoda.
While 20% off stacked with 4 mpd is a very attractive deal, make sure you’re not paying over the odds for the miles (not too much anyway) and not losing out on benefits you would value more, like dining credits, free parking, etc., which may outweigh the miles value for your chosen property if a good staycation deal is on offer when booking directly.
Also, not all hotels are included in the Agoda HSBC promo, including Marina Bay Sands and the InterContinental, so the offer is only useful if your preferred property is participating.
Other Agoda offers
If you don’t have an HSBC credit card, don’t despair. Agoda offers discounts and/or bonus miles across all the major cards in Singapore, including a 10 mpd deal for DBS Altitude and Woman’s cardholders.
Here’s a summary of the offers on the miles earning side applicable to staycation bookings.

Other hotels
HSBC is also running some other promotions for its cardholders on direct staycation bookings made this weekend, for the following hotels:
- Hilton
- Shangri-La
- Mandarin Oriental
None of these deals are too dissimilar to the everyday staycation offers available for these properties, so don’t get too excited.
Check the HSBC WOW Weekend Deals page for details.
Summary
If you’re interested in these deals, either through Agoda or directly with the hotels in question, mark your calendar for 18th to 20th September. Remember to check how the prices look through Agoda with this HSBC offer and compare with other staycation offers before you commit.
The Revolution card is the one to use with Agoda, giving you 4 mpd in addition to the 20% discount. Remember you won’t see the final rate with 20% off until you reach the payment stage and your HSBC credit card number is entered, and you’ll have to pick a ‘Promo Eligible’ hotel and rate.
Be sure to compare with best available rates directly with the hotel as always, and also consider the benefits of any staycation packages on offer, most of which won’t apply unless you book directly.
If you are losing some benefits, make sure the discount and the miles you’re getting instead are worth the difference.
