The HSBC Revolution card has had somewhat of a ‘revolutionary revamp’ this month, doubling its bonus category earn rate to the coveted 4 mpd level with a monthly S$1,000 cap on a range of useful spend including travel, dining and grocery shopping.
In case you missed it, we recently reviewed the newly-enhanced card in detail, outlining all it has to offer, including zero annual fee.
Agoda offer
Travel is one of the 4 mpd bonus categories with the HSBC Revolution card, so happily bookings made via Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia, etc. under Merchant Category Code (MCC) 4722 are now eligible for the bonus earning rate.
Fun fact: Earlier this week HSBC also added MCC 7011 to the eligible 4 mpd list for travel transactions, meaning smaller hotels, motels and guest houses, plus the more obscure hotel reservation systems, are now included too.
HSBC credit card holders in Singapore already get 12% off selected Agoda staycation bookings in Singapore for the rest of 2020, for bookings and stays completed by 31st December 2020.
Agoda 12% Discount
agoda.com/HSBCstaycay
This new offer however is even better. Agoda is running a three-day flash sale for HSBC cardholders booking staycations between 14th August and 16th August, for stays through to the the end of 2020.
This could be a great way to work towards your first S$1,000 monthly cap at the enhanced 4 mpd rate with this card, while also locking in a competitive rate for a local hotel stay later this year.
Your 20% discount applies to the room rate only (excluding taxes). Details of the promotion including terms and conditions are available here.
How it works
- Make your hotel booking via agoda.com/hsbcstaycay
- Stay Period: Now to 31st December 2020
- To benefit from 20% off, booking must be made from 14th to 16th August 2020, otherwise a discount rate of 12% applies
- Book a ‘Promo Eligible’ hotel and rate (not all are included)
- Select your HSBC credit card at the payment stage
Example
Here’s an example booking a two-night staycation at M Social hotel for later in August.

This last stage is where you’ll see the discount reflect at the enhanced 20% level when booking between 14th August and 16th August, for stays from now until the end of the year.
Other HSBC credit cards are eligible
This 20% discount for bookings made next weekend is also offered to those with other HSBC credit cards in Singapore, but combining it with the Revolution’s new 4 mpd rate for Agoda bookings makes the deal even sweeter, so this is the one to go for in our opinion.
Staycation deals
Most of the hotels now open for staycation bookings in Singapore have some form of deal on offer when you book direct. You won’t necessarily get the best rate, nor the additional staycation perks, if you book through Agoda.
While 20% off stacked with 4 mpd is a very attractive deal, make sure you’re not paying over the odds for the miles (not too much anyway) and not losing out on benefits you would value more, like dining credits, free parking, etc., which may outweigh the miles value for your chosen property if a good staycation deal is on offer when booking directly.
Also, not all hotels are included in the Agoda HSBC promo, including Marina Bay Sands and the InterContinental, so the offer is only useful if your preferred property is participating.
DBS offer
Another Agoda offer you may recall is the deal for up to 10 mpd when using selected DBS credit cards including the DBS Altitude and DBS WWMC, valid for bookings and stays between now and the end of December 2020.
See our article for full details in case you prefer the sound of that deal, or you have already hit the S$1,000 monthly cap on your HSBC Revolution card.
Summary
If you’re interested in this deal, mark your calendar for 14th to 16th August then check how the prices look through Agoda with this HSBC offer.
The Revolution card is the one to use here, giving you 4 mpd in addition to the 20% discount. Remember you won’t see the final rate with 20% off until you reach the payment stage and your HSBC credit card number is entered.
Be sure to compare with best available rates directly with the hotel as always, and also consider the benefits of any staycation packages on offer, most of which won’t apply unless you book directly.
If you are losing some benefits, make sure the discount and the miles you’re getting instead are worth the difference.
