Singapore Airlines further extends Elite Gold Rewards, PPS Rewards

Singapore Airlines is now giving you all of next year to use your accrued Elite Gold Rewards or PPS Rewards, in light of the prolonged COVID-19 travel restrictions

It has been nearly six months since Singapore Airlines first announced a raft of validity extensions for its KrisFlyer and PPS Club members, with status expiries stretched out and miles that would otherwise have expired from April 2020 onwards given a new lease of life.

Further measures have since been put in place, including:

  • Additional extensions for expiring KrisFlyer miles
  • An improved (and much fairer) PPS status extension method
  • A halving of renewal thresholds for those whose status has already been extended for a year
  • Methods to earn Elite Miles and PPS Value for on-ground activities

One thing that hasn’t been addressed though, until now, is the validity of earned Elite Gold Rewards and PPS Rewards, with expiry dates for these benefits initially extended only until 31st March 2021.

Elite Gold Rewards extension

In case you missed it, Elite Gold Rewards were first launched in October 2018.

In this latest change Singapore Airlines has extended the validity of Elite Gold Rewards for KrisFlyer Gold members for a second time due to COVID-19.

These were previously valid until 31st March 2021, for rewards expiring between July and December 2020.

Under the new policy those expiring between July 2020 and September 2021 will now all be extended until 31st December 2021.

“Elite Gold Rewards expiring between July 2020 and September 2021 will be extended, and will be valid till 31 December 2021.”

Singapore Airlines

This applies to:

  • Double KrisFlyer Miles Reward
  • Short-haul Advance Upgrade
  • Premium Economy Advance Upgrade

The extension will be reflected through your account progressively by 31st December 2020, so don’t expect the validity dates to change immediately when you log on to your account.

If you have applied your Short-haul Advance Upgrade or Premium Economy Advance Upgrade Reward on a booking which has now been converted to a flight credit, you’ll need to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services to redeposit your eligible Elite Gold Rewards.

Your Reward will then be extended and will be valid till 31st December 2021.

Singapore Airlines has also clarified the policy if you already applied your Double KrisFlyer Miles Reward against a booking which has now been refunded, but the status of the reward in the system still shows as ‘Applied’.

In this case, provided the refunded booking meets the eligibility criteria for the current global travel waiver policy, you will be able to have your reward reinstated by contacting KrisFlyer Membership Services. It will then be valid until 31st December 2021.

PPS Rewards extension

PPS Rewards have also been extended, with those expiring between July and December 2020 previously valid until 31st March 2021. Under the new policy those expiring between July 2020 and September 2021 will now all be extended until 31st December 2021.

“PPS Rewards that will be expiring between July 2020 and September 2021 will be valid till 31 December 2021.”

Singapore Airlines

This applies to:

  • Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards
  • 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
  • Advance Upgrade

The extension of PPS Rewards does not apply to Standby Upgrade Rewards.

The extension will be reflected through your account progressively by 31st December 2020, so don’t expect the validity dates to change immediately when you log on to your account.

If you already redeemed an award ticket with your 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount that has now expired, you can have it reinstated to your account provided your booking meets the eligibility criteria for the current global travel waiver policy by contacting KrisFlyer Membership Services.

Its validity will then be extended to 31 December 2021.

If you applied your Advance Upgrade Reward on a booking which has now been converted to a flight credit, you’ll need to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services to have it redeposited.

Your Reward will be extended and will be valid till 31 December 2021.

As with Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards for Elite Gold members, if you have already used this benefit as a PPS Reward against a booking which has now been refunded but the status of the reward in the system still shows as ‘Applied’:

Provided the refunded booking meets the eligibility criteria for the current global travel waiver policy, you will be able to have your reward reinstated by contacting KrisFlyer Membership Services. It will then be valid until 31st December 2021.

KrisFlyer miles

PPS Club members don’t need to worry about KrisFlyer miles expiry, but for KrisFlyer members whose miles are expiring (or would have expired) between April 2020 and December 2020 there have already been some validity extensions announced.

Additional extensions for those whose KrisFlyer miles are expiring into early 2021 have not yet been announced, however these seem inevitable given the continued lack of travel opportunities for the foreseeable future.

That’s especially true for those with expiries coming up in the first few months of 2021, based on either original or extended dates, which will need to be extended soon.
