The first of SIA’s on-ground experiences in the ‘Discover your Singapore Airlines’ programme has gone on sale, the SIA@Home concept, featuring home delivery of the airline’s First Class and Business Class in-flight meals, complete with wine or Champagne pairing and optional ‘Book-the-Chef’ service.
You’ll also get an amenity kit or two thrown in, including the airline’s brand new Penhaligon’s Business Class version with selected meals.
“Diners will be treated to a home-dining experience for two, created by our world-renowned International Culinary Panel chefs and paired with a choice of wine or champagne that has been selected by our Wine Panel experts.
“The experience is made complete by the inclusion of our exclusive First Class or Business Class amenity kits, welcome videos featuring our cabin crew, as well as a specially curated playlist to recreate the SIA onboard experience at home.”
Singapore Airlines
These experiences don’t come cheap, however. A total of 31 packages are now available through KrisShop, ranging from S$276 through to S$950, with additional charges for ‘Book-the-Chef’.
Menu concepts
There are four menu concepts in total, with dishes curated by world-renowned chefs, designed to replicate dining on one of the airline’s regular routes:
- Matt Moran Menu (Singapore to Sydney)
- Sanjeev Kapoor Shahi Thali Menu (Singapore to New Delhi)
- Yoshihiro Murata Kyo-Kaiseki Menu (Singapore to Tokyo)
- Georges Blanc Menu (Singapore to Paris)
For the Sanjeev Kapoor menu, a vegetarian option is also available.

How it works
Once you’ve made your purchase through the KrisShop, the ‘cabin crew concierge’ will contact you within 24 hours to confirm your choice of wine, together with your preferred delivery date and time.

Menus cannot be customised for dietary preferences, and all SIA@Home orders will be combined in a single delivery. To schedule deliveries to multiple locations or at different timings, you’ll have to make separate transactions.
For example if you want to try a First Class meal this weekend then a Business Class one later in the month, be sure to split these into two separate purchases.
The delivery can be scheduled between 9am and 9pm daily. Confirmation must be made three days before the preferred date of delivery, not including the date of order if it is made after 12pm.
Delivery should take place within one month from purchase of package. SIA@Home orders cannot be cancelled and are non-refundable. Changes to your menu selection will not be allowed within three days of the delivery date.
Delivery is to Singapore addresses only.
Cash is king
Though none of these meal options is cheap, you’ll want to be using cash to purchase rather than redeeming KrisFlyer miles.
That’s because of the poor 0.8 cents per mile value KrisShop gives you as a ‘default rate’ to offset cash purchases, leading to some ridiculous miles rates as you can see above.

An experience costing S$688 (S$736.16 including GST), for example, will set you back over 92,000 miles if you don’t want to part with any cash. That’s enough to redeem a Business Class saver award from Singapore to London!
You should therefore be paying cash and instead earning miles through your KrisShop transaction for these experiences, not redeeming.
Book-the-Chef
All 31 of these meal combinations have the option of adding the ‘Book-the-Chef’ service when you are scheduling the delivery date and time.
“Those who are looking to bring their SIA experience to the next level also have the option to Book-the-Chef through our cabin crew concierge, to enjoy the services of a private chef who will reheat, plate and serve the meal for customers in their homes.”
Singapore Airlines
During the call with the cabin crew concierge, you can enquire about this optional add-on, though there are limited slots available each day.

“The Book-the-Chef service is available for a top up of S$300 for one to two packages bought, and $480 for customers who purchase more than two packages.
“For two packages or fewer, an SIA chef will visit the home of the customer to personally re-heat, plate and serve the dishes. For re-heating, plating and serving of dishes from more than two packages, the chef will be accompanied by an assistant.”
KrisShop
These prices are subject to GST, so it works out as a total of S$321 for one to two packages and S$513.60 for more than two packages.
That means for the cheapest Business Class package at S$276 you’ll be spending a total of S$597 including your own personal chef, right up to an eye watering S$1,271 for the top First Class All-Inclusive experience with a chef.
Which credit card to use
You’ll earn 1.5 mpd on net spend at KrisShop.com, transferred directly into your KrisFlyer account.
KrisShop.com transactions are online purchases processed under MCC 5309: Duty Free Stores.
That means you can tap into some 4 mpd earn rates with a variety of credit cards, subject to their monthly requirements and spending caps.
Here’s an example of cards we know will give you upwards of 4 mpd for KrisShop transactions, the equivalent of earning almost 5.5 mpd in total for the SIA@Home experience (since the KrisShop isn’t paying 1.5 mpd on the GST component, it will never quite hit 5.5 mpd overall).

Here’s an example using the HSBC Revolution card (see our review) to purchase the most expensive First Class dining experience for two at S$888 (S$950.16 including GST):
- S$888 (net) x 1.5 mpd = 1,332 KrisFlyer miles from KrisShop
- S$950 x 4 mpd = 3,800 miles from HSBC
- 5,132 miles total
That’s the equivalent of 5.4 mpd for the transaction, and given that we value KrisFlyer miles at 1.9 cents each (when redeemed sensibly, i.e. not at KrisShop!), you’re getting about S$97 ‘value-back’ from this transaction (around 10%).
It’s also almost 2,700 miles more than you’ll earn using a more mundane 1.2 mpd card for general local spend, like the Citi PremierMiles, so do try to use a 4 mpd bonus card if possible.
Summary
The SIA@Home experience packages were known to be expensive and they have proven to be so.
Starting at S$276, those wanting the full First Class experience including 2008 vintage Dom Perignon Champagne, tableware, three Lalique amenity kits, pyjamas, slippers, socks and eyeshades will be parting with around S$950 at the top end!
Opting for the ‘Book-the-Chef’ experience will also set you back at least an additional S$321.
Whether any of these options is worth it is of course for you to decide! Much of the pricing built in to these packages is for the ‘uniqueness’ of the experience, which some will value more than others.
You’ll almost certainly get better food spending a similar amount of money at a top restaurant in Singapore.

Given the pricing of the Restaurant A380 @Changi and the likely excitement of that occasion for many, we think the home delivery meal service won’t be nearly as popular, though some will inevitably consider it worth the money.
If you are going to place an order, remember not to redeem KrisFlyer miles (given the lousy value offered) but instead to use your best miles-earning credit card when paying to supplement KrisShop’s own 1.5 mpd accrual rate.

Under your Business Class, All Inclusive Experience – I think it should read “Business Class” instead of “First Class”
The Business Class items were more palatable. For instance I surmised the following breakdown for the All Inclusive Business Class experience set:
S$388 excl GST:
S$14 x 2 = Sake
S$82 = Champagne
S$50 x 2 = Meal (equivalent to I suppose any upper-middle end restaurant in town)
S$130 = Tableware
S$24 x 2 = Amenity Kit
