As most of our readers know, it’s possible to earn 1.5 miles per dollar year-round when you order items from the Singapore Airlines KrisShop, in addition to the regular earn rate you’ll pick up from your credit card for the transaction.
A slightly better deal is now available with KrisShop’s catalogue integrated into the Kris+ app, paying out miles on GST and delivery-inclusive totals for a slightly better effective earning rate.
Most importantly though, there’s a launch deal for the rest of December you may want to take a close look at, since it eclipses even the most generous KrisShop offers we’ve seen before.
KrisShop is now on Kris+
KrisShop is now on Kris+, SIA’s “lifestyle app”, which allows you to earn miles on purchases at retail stores across the city, and redeem miles too, though the latter is poor value and it’s always the earning side our miles-hungry readers should be focusing on.
“You can now shop KrisShop on Kris+ and receive your purchases right at your doorstep!”Kris+
When you buy KrisShop items via Kris+, you’ll earn 3 miles for every S$2 spent, which is effectively the same 1.5 mpd you get when you purchase directly through the KrisShop store anyway.
One benefit of doing so via Kris+ is that miles crediting is instant (direct KrisShop purchases take up to 30 business days to credit), but of course you must follow the golden rule and convert the KrisPay miles you earn 1:1 straight into your KrisFlyer account, to avoid them becoming stuck in the Kris+ app after seven days, where their value is dismal.
If you don’t see the KrisShop option on Kris+, you’ll most likely need to update the app to the latest version on your mobile device.
You can download or update to the latest version at the links below.
Other differences to note when shopping on KrisShop via Kris+ rather than directly at KrisShop.com include:
- KrisShop via Kris+ delivery is to Singapore addresses only (KrisShop.com supports worldwide and in-flight delivery)
- KrisShop via Kris+ does not yet support the 10% discount for PPS Club members, or PPS Club Gift voucher redemption.
9 mpd on KrisShop via Kris+
To celebrate KrisShop’s catalogue of items (well, most of it) becoming available via Kris+, there’s a frankly fantastic offer available for the rest of December 2021.
Under the launch promotion, you’ll pick up an uncapped 9 miles per dollar spent on KrisShop items via the Kris+ app, from 9am on 6th December 2021 until 11.59pm on 31st December 2021.
For example, Apple AirPods 3rd generation are priced at S$251.40 on KrisShop (S$269 including GST), which is the same price you’ll see at the Apple Store.
If you pay for this item via KrisShop’s regular website, you’ll earn 1.5 mpd on the pre-GST component (i.e. 251.40 x 1.5 = 377 miles), in addition to those you’ll get through your credit card.
Shop via Kris+ during this promotion, however, and you’re looking at the full GST-inclusive amount earning 9 mpd (269 x 9 = 2,421 miles).
That’s more than six times the earn rate compared to a purchase via KrisShop’s own website, is completely instant, and comes on top of the miles you’ll otherwise earn from your bank for paying with a miles-earning credit card.
Miles for GST and shipping are now included
KrisShop is a duty free store, so its prices are (quite legally!) quoted without GST included.
That means you’ll see a 7% markup at the check-out stage, but perhaps more importantly if you’re earning miles directly with KrisShop (1.5 mpd) via KrisShop.com only the pre-GST amount is considered for miles accrual.
With Kris+, you’ll also earn miles on the GST and shipping component (even after this 9 mpd offer ends), making it a better deal all round to purchase though the Kris+ platform, rather than directly.
Delivery is free for KrisShop orders of S$100+ made via the Kris+ app.
Up to 13 mpd with some cards
KrisShop purchases made via the Kris+ app will code under MCC 5309: Duty Free Stores, and that means you can tap into some 4 mpd earn rates with a variety of credit cards, subject to their monthly requirements and spending caps.
Those miles are issued by your bank, so they come on top of the 9 mpd Kris+ is dishing out with this promotion, and that means up to 13 mpd total effective earning on a wide range of products, including KrisShop’s electronics, wine, spirits, beauty products and SIA airline exclusive items.
Here’s an example of the cards which should give you upwards of 4 mpd for KrisShop via Kris+ in-app payment transactions.
per calendar month
per calendar month
|KF Amex Ascend||3.2||If you successfully registered for this campaign, capped at S$200 spend
(thereafter 2.0 mpd)
|KF Amex||3.1||If you successfully registered for this campaign, capped at S$200 spend
(thereafter 2.0 mpd)
|UOB KF||3.0||No cap, subject to S$500 annual min. spend with SIA Group|
Be careful not to use Citi Rewards cards to make in-app payments on Kris+, since mobile wallet payments are specifically excluded from bonus miles earning, regardless of the merchant MCC.
UOB VS and UOB PPV cardholders also won’t earn bonus miles for Kris+ purchases any more, since they exclude in-app payments made via Apple Pay and Google Pay.
4 mpd card example
For example, here’s what you’ll earn using an HSBC Revolution card at KrisShop via the Kris+ app for a S$100 + GST purchase (S$107 including GST), compared to doing so directly at KrisShop.com.
- 428 miles from HSBC (S$107.00 x 4 mpd)
- 150 regular miles from KrisShop (S$100.00 x 1.5 mpd)
- 578 miles total (5.4 mpd)
KrisShop via Kris+
- 428 miles from HSBC (S$107.00 x 4 mpd)
- 963 miles from Kris+ (S$107.00 x 9 mpd)
- 1,391 miles total (13 mpd)
That’s an impressive 13 mpd on a S$107 purchase, worth around S$26 ‘value back’ in KrisFlyer miles given our conservative valuation of 1.9 cents per mile.
Even if the product you’re purchasing is a few dollars more expensive than you can get it elsewhere, the miles you’re earning under this promotion might make it worth buying on the KrisShop catalogue via Kris+ under this excellent offer.
Don’t forget to transfer straight to KrisFlyer miles
KrisPay miles earned through Kris+ can only be transferred to your KrisFlyer account within 7 days of the transaction. To do so, simply tap on the “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button which will appear on the miles earned confirmation screen or transaction details screen.
You can do so later (within 7 days), but why wait?
Remember that KrisPay miles earned per transaction can only be transferred to your account in their entirety. If you earned 1,000 KrisPay miles from a single Kris+ transaction, for example, the full 1,000 KrisPay miles must be transferred to your KrisFlyer account. If you have already spent some of your KrisPay miles earned, a partial transfer option is not available.
We therefore recommend transferring to KrisFlyer immediately following any Kris+ earning transaction, in case you either forget or make a mistake later.
Don’t pay using miles
As always, it’s really poor value to spend your KrisFlyer miles at KrisShop.com – where they’ll get you only 0.8 cents each off a purchase.
It’s even worse with Kris+, where each KrisPay mile only achieves the standard 0.67 cents rebate when spending miles – not far off the worst value you can get from them.
The launch promo includes a 16.67% instant miles back deal when you offset KrisShop purchases with KrisPay miles, but that’s still not worth considering.
Always stick with earning, especially with this fantastic 9 mpd offer, and remember to transfer any KrisPay miles accrued into your KrisFlyer account straight away.
A great offer just in time for Christmas, with the KrisShop catalogue now available on the Kris+ app including a launch offer of 9 mpd (uncapped) on all items until 31st December 2021.
That’s good for up to 13 mpd when you use the right bonus miles credit card to pay in-app for your purchases, and Kris+ is even including miles earning on the GST and any shipping costs, which aren’t usually counted via KrisShop’s own site.
