Singapore Airlines extends KrisFlyer Elite and PPS status for a third year

Singapore Airlines is extending your KrisFlyer Elite or PPS Club status level by another 12 months due to the continued impact of COVID-19.

Singapore Airlines has announced that due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting difficulty its frequent flyer members have when making travel plans, a fresh status extension will be gifted to KrisFlyer and PPS Club memberships, giving members an additional year at their current tier.

Other measures include Elite Miles rollover to provide subsequent tier renewal support, vital for those who have been participating in the airline’s “earn status on the ground” campaign since April 2021.

“All PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite statuses that are due to expire between March 2022 and February 2023 will be automatically extended for another year. This supports our members, who have been unable to fly as before due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and follows a similar extension in 2020 and 2021.”

PPS Club membership extension

Singapore Airlines will extend your PPS Club or Solitaire PPS Club membership for a third membership year in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

This will apply to those with membership year ending in March 2022 through to February 2023.

The full amount of the required PPS Value for renewal will be credited to your KrisFlyer account as Reserve Value, based on your membership tier and tier renewal end-date.

All PPS Club or Solitaire PPS Club members will therefore receive a one-time credit of Reserve Value in March 2022 to renew the current membership status for another year.

Feb 2023

Solitaire PPS Club
(qualified before 1 June 2018)

PPS Club 25,000

All PPS Club or Solitaire PPS Club members will receive the appropriate Reserve Value in accordance with the above table.

Any PPS Value you have already earned yourself through flying or on-ground activities during your qualification cycle will be stored as Reserve Value upon requalification, to assist in your re-qualification in future years.

PPS Reserve Value extension

Singapore Airlines already extended the Reserve Value for PPS Club members as part of its previous status extension, so there’s no change here.

Reserve Value expiring in:

  • Year 1: Mar 2021 – Feb 2022; and
  • Year 2: Mar 2022 – Feb 2023

Will be extended to Year 3: Mar 2023 – Feb 2024.

Extension of Reserve Value validity period already took place in March 2021, regardless of your qualification date.

Extension of PPS Rewards

The following PPS Rewards that that are expiring on or before 30th November 2022 are eligible for extension, and will be valid until 31st December 2022:

  • Double KrisFlyer Miles Rewards
  • 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
  • Advance Upgrade

This extension will be processed automatically by 31st January 2022.

If you have applied a PPS Reward on a booking that has now been refunded or converted to flight credits, here’s what you’ll need to do:

For Double KrisFlyer Miles, log in to your KrisFlyer account and go to Account Summary > PPS Rewards to manage your rewards. You can then click on “Remove” to remove your reward application from the booking. This will change the status back to “Available”, and its expiry date will be reset to 31st December 2022.

For the 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount and Advance Upgrade rewards, you’ll have to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services to redeposit your reward and have its expiry date changed to 31st December 2022.

KrisFlyer membership extension

Provided your existing KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Elite Gold membership expires between March 2022 and February 2023, your membership will be renewed for a further year even if you don’t (or didn’t) accrue the usual Elite Miles or PPS Value required, which is the case for many members this year.

“Your KrisFlyer Elite Silver / Elite Gold membership will be automatically extended for a third year. This applies to members with membership end-date from March 2022 to February 2023. After your status has been renewed, the Elite miles in your membership account will be reset to zero on the qualifying start date.”

Singapore Airlines

Tier expiry for all KrisFlyer Elite members will now resume only from March 2023 onwards.

You won’t need to apply for your tier extension, since all KrisFlyer Elite members will have their membership in their current tier automatically extended at the end of their membership year due between March 2022 and February 2023.

Any Elite miles earned through air and non-air accruals during your current qualification cycle will be carried forward to the next qualification cycle starting between March 2022 and February 2023, after your membership year has been extended.

The Elite miles rolled over from your previous membership cycle can be used to count towards your KrisFlyer Elite membership renewal due between March 2023 and February 2024, or to upgrade your membership status.

Rolling over Elite Miles to the next membership year

KrisFlyer has also announced that it will once again roll over Elite Miles earned for memberships with start date from March 2022 to February 2023.

“Elite miles earned by KrisFlyer Elite members, in the 12 months prior to the latest extension, will be credited back into their accounts after the extension. Elite miles earned during the previous membership qualification cycle will also count towards their requalification in the March 2023 to February 2024 cycle.”

Singapore Airlines

That’s important since many of our readers participated in the earn / upgrade status on the ground campaign, running since April 2021 and still available until 28th February 2022.

For example, if you’ve currently accrued 30,000 Elite miles, you’ll start the next qualification cycle with 30,000 Elite miles even after your status has been extended by a year.

Here’s how it works:

  • Any Elite miles earned through air and non-air accruals during the qualification cycle will be carried forward after your membership year has been extended.
  • Each KrisFlyer Elite member as of 1 March 2022 will be eligible for a one-time re-crediting of Elite miles.
  • Only Elite miles accrued within your membership year (with membership start date between March 2021 and February 2022) will be re-credited.
  • KrisFlyer Elite Silver members who are upgraded to KrisFlyer Elite Gold tier before their KrisFlyer Elite Silver membership end-date will also be eligible for a one-time re-credit of Elite miles.
  • Members who upgraded from KrisFlyer Elite Silver to KrisFlyer Elite Gold after 1 March 2022 from any status match programmes or accelerator campaigns will not be eligible for the re-crediting of Elite miles.

Extension of KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards

In case you missed it, Elite Gold Rewards were rebranded as KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards in January 2021.

If you have any of the following KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards that are expiring before or on 30th November 2022, they are eligible for extension:

  • 1,500 KrisPay miles
  • 25% Bonus KrisFlyer Miles
  • 50% Bonus KrisFlyer Miles
  • 5,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
  • Double KrisFlyer Miles
  • Short-haul Advance Upgrade
  • Premium Economy Advance Upgrade

These Rewards will now expire on 31st December 2022, under an automatic extension process, which will be completed by 31st January 2022.

KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards may be used on flights departing after 31 December 2022, as long as the Rewards are applied on or before 31 December 2022. Otherwise, please utilise your KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards by 31 December 2022.

I if you have applied a KrisFlyer Milestone Reward on a booking that has now been refunded, here’s what happens:

For the following Rewards:

  • 25% Bonus KrisFlyer Miles
  • 50% Bonus KrisFlyer Miles
  • Double KrisFlyer Miles

You’ll have to log in your KrisFlyer account and under Account Summary > KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards you may then click on “remove” to remove your reward application from the booking. This will change the status back to “Available”. The expiry date will be updated to 31st December 2022.

For the following Rewards:

  • 5,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
  • Short-haul Advance Upgrade
  • Premium Economy Advance Upgrade

You’ll have to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services to redeposit your reward, and have the expiry date will updated to 31st December 2022.

What about expiring miles?

Singapore Airlines has been progressively extending the validity of miles for members with expiries approaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest extension was announced earlier today and remains applicable for those with miles expiring between April 2020 (originally) and December 2022, with validity extended until at least January 2023 and up to June 2023 in some cases.

Those whose miles were expiring between April 2020 and December 2021 had already received one or more extensions to their miles validity and will also benefit from the new extensions, based on their latest validity date.

Enhanced benefits for Scoot customers

In a separate announcement, Singapore Airlines is also enhancing perks and KrisFlyer miles earning for members travelling on its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, including 2.5 Elite Miles earned per S$1 in fare spent with the airline.

Summary

Another raft of extensions from KrisFlyer for PPS Club members and Elite Silver and Gold status holders, which centre around an inevitable annual tier extension for everyone, given the ongoing difficulty arranging travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the very least, no members will need to worry about re-qualifying for elite status until March 2023 at the very earliest as a result of this extension.

Any additional PPS Value or Elite Miles earned through flying or the on-ground earning initiative will roll over by at least one membership year, to assist you with subsequent tier renewals, which is great news for many readers who’ve been using the “earn on ground” method to already win another year (or two!) of status.

    1. Hi Callum,

The membership will be renewed for 12 months only on the expiry date for your current year.

For example if your current membership expires in September 2022, the renewal will happen on 30th September 2022 and your new expiry date of 30th September 2023 will be reflected on your account by 1st October 2022.

Why it has to be done this way I have no idea!

  1. Hi Andrew thanks for the write up. Can I clarify on this I’m now KFES and 5,000 Elite miles short of KFEG upgrade. If I transfer on 1 Feb via miles from credit card to hit KFEG am I good till Feb 2024 due to this extension?

    1. Yes correct, if you credit another 5,000 Elite Miles in Feb you’ll be KFEG until 28th Feb 2023, then the 12-month extension will kick in and you’ll retain it till 28 Feb 2024, even without any further activity.

      1. Hi Andrew

Assuming I manage to obtain 50k elite miles from October 2021 and February 2022, can I combine the extension incentive with the rollover incentive to get KFEG status until 28 Feb 2025?

        Many thanks in advance!
