It’s mid-month again and that means one of the most anticipated regular KrisFlyer promotions has just been released – Spontaneous Escapes – this time for travel in September 2022, for those who have firm travel plans and can book by 31st August at the latest.
As usual, there’s 30% off the usual Saver miles redemption rates on offer when you lock in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class awards to selected destinations on the network next month.
If you do find a route of interest, you’ll need to book these ‘Promo’ awards over the next two weeks – between 15th August 2022 and 31st August 2022 – for travel in September, but remember there’s no flexibility and in most cases no refunds are allowed.

Redemption continues to only available online at singaporeair.com, not via the mobile app, for some reason.

Book the ‘Promo’ award category
Singapore Airlines offers its Spontaneous Escapes deals via a new “Promo” award category, which you’ll see alongside the usual Saver and Advantage award rates on applicable flights.
![](https://mainlymiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/SE-Example-Sep-22.jpg)
If the Promo award rate is not shown for your preferred flight, even though it is listed as part of the offer, that unfortunately means there is no availability remaining at the Spontaneous Escapes rate (but do check back later, like Saver award space it can come and go).
Remember, you cannot waitlist for Promo awards – it’s either available or it’s not.
The new “Promo” award category also means Spontaneous Escapes award capacity can be loaded as a subset of the Saver award space. This allows you to continue to book at Saver rates (if you prefer the flexibility, for example), or allows the airline to stop offering Spontaneous Escapes rates on a particular flight, while not necessarily having to remove the Saver rate at the same time, like they did before.
It also allows you to book at a discount for larger groups, for example if there are three of you travelling but only two Promo (Spontaneous Escapes) award seats are loaded for the flight you want to travel on, you can potentially redeem the two remaining Promo seats and one Saver seat on a separate booking, and still effectively achieve a 20% overall miles discount between you.
What if you already booked?
If you have already redeemed your miles on a flight that has now become part of the Spontaneous Escapes offer, unfortunately there’s no simple way to change it and pay the reduced miles rate.
You will have to book at the Spontaneous Escapes rate, then cancel the existing booking and pay the miles redeposit fee (don’t do it the other way round, in case the Spontaneous Escapes Promo space disappears in the meantime!).
This will require you to have sufficient miles in your account.
If you need the miles from the original booking in order to make the Spontaneous Escapes one due an insufficient balance, be very careful!
Since you will first have to cancel the original booking, you are now at the mercy of the Spontaneous Escapes space remaining available on the flight, and it can take a few days for the miles from your original cancelled booking to be re-credited to your account.
Full details
For full details of this month’s Spontaneous Escapes offer, including terms and conditions (but sadly not including the aircraft type and seat type details we have provided above!), head over to the KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promo page.
Summary
Spontaneous Escapes continues to be a relatively limited selection, unsurprising since it fundamentally comprises empty seats next month SIA thinks it won’t now fill, even at Saver award rates. With demand still exceeding supply on the most popular routes during this COVID recovery period, that means it’s slim pickings.
That said, there’s no harm in checking out the current deal for travel in September 2022, with some Premium Economy Class and Economy Class discounts to and from long-haul cities like Frankfurt and New York in the mix (though sadly nothing so attractive in Business Class!).
If India is on your radar next month, you can get a great rate of 30,100 miles each way in the new 2017 Business Class (2017 J) seat on board selected Airbus A380 flights as part of the offer, if you pick the right flight numbers, as shown above.
Remember if you’re unable to secure a return flight at the discounted rates, book two one-way tickets instead. You’ll pay the ‘Promo’ rate one-way and the usual ‘Saver’ rate for the non-discounted sector, but at least the whole itinerary will not be at the usual rate (and a 15% saving is still welcome).
