UOB PRVI Miles Mastercard: Earn 4.4 mpd for overseas spend, 8 mpd on travel bookings

UOB has launched a bonus miles deal for its PRVI Miles Mastercard holders, offering an additional 2 mpd on top of the usual earn rates for overseas transactions, online travel bookings and selected OTA bookings between now and the end of October 2021.

You’ll have to spend at least S$1,000 within these categories to trigger the bonus earn rate, with an upper cap of 8,000 bonus miles, which you’ll achieve with a total of S$4,000 spend.

Between 1st September 2022 and 31st October 2022, if you successfully charge at least S$1,000 in the transactions listed above (and further defined below) to your card, you’ll be eligible for the bonus miles earning on this spend, up to a maximum of 8,000 bonus miles (i.e. from up to S$4,000 total spend).

There is no cap on the usual base earn rate, as shown in the table above, that you will still be eligible to earn on these transactions, even after your bonus cap is reached.

Only primary cardholders can participate, but eligible transactions made by your supplementary cardholders will count towards the spend for the promotion.

Registration is required

The bonus earn rate is not automatic – you must successfully register to participate in this promotion. That requires principal cardholders to send an SMS to 77862 using their mobile number registered with UOB, in the following format:

All cardholders are eligible for this promotion, with no upper participant cap.

You must register within the promotion period (i.e. before 31st October 2022), but not necessarily before your first eligible transaction.

4.4 mpd on selected overseas spend

The first bonus category during this promotion is for overseas spend, which UOB defines as transactions processed by the merchant as an in-store foreign currency transaction via a payment gateway overseas.

Do note that payments made online in foreign currency via a payment gateway overseas are not eligible as part of this promotion.

Subject to the minimum overall spend of S$1,000 across all bonus categories during the promotion period, the equivalent earn rate for these overseas transactions is 4.4 miles per dollar, and comprises:

3.4 mpd for online travel bookings (SGD)

The second bonus category during this promotion is for online travel spend, which UOB defines as transactions processed by the merchant as online transactions, and posted on UOB’s system with any of the following Merchant Category Codes (MCCs):

This includes most major airlines (e.g. SIA, British Airways and Qantas) and major hotel chains too (e.g. Marriott, Hilton and Airbnb).

Subject to the minimum overall spend of S$1,000 across all bonus categories during the promotion period, the equivalent earn rate for these overseas transactions is 3.4 miles per dollar, and comprises:

8 mpd for Expedia, Agoda & UOB Travel bookings

Finally the regular 6 mpd earn rate for UOB PRVI Miles Mastercard holders when making eligible purchases at Agoda, Expedia and UOB Travel is being hiked to 8 mpd during this promotion.

As you may recall, DBS Altitude cards are also offering an enhanced 8 mpd rate at Expedia this month, capped at S$5,000 spend.

When will bonus miles credit?

You’ll initially earn miles at the regular rate for these transactions, but provided you have successfully registered for this promotion and complied with the terms and conditions (min. S$1,000 spend, for example), your bonus UNI$5 per S$5 spend (2 mpd) will be credited to your rewards account by 31st January 2023.

The UOB PRVI Miles cards

In particular, remember you’ll only earn UNI$ (which convert at a 1:2 ratio into KrisFlyer miles or Asia Miles) for S$5+ spending blocks. Spend S$4.99 and you will walk away empty-handed!

There’s a generous 8,000 bonus miles cap for this deal, including for overseas in-store spend and for a variety of travel transactions, but remember it’s only the UOB PRVI Miles Mastercard between now and the end of October 2022.

You’ll also need to clock at least S$1,000 total spend in the bonus categories across the promotion period to be eligible for any additional miles.

At some stage during the promotion you’ll also need to register to participate. Sooner is better than later in our opinion, in case you forget. In fact there is no harm in registering your card, even if you don’t think you’ll participate.

Luckily the deal has no upper registration limit, and your supplementary cardholders can help you along with their own spend in eligible categories.
