KrisFlyer’s lifestyle app Kris+ is back with its annual ‘Gastronomy Series’ dining promotion at 14 local restaurants in Singapore, with a 12 mpd earn rate in store this year, plus a series of specially curated menus for Kris+ customers.

Paired with up to 6 mpd using a credit card awarding bonus miles for dining transactions, that means a total effective earn rate of up to 18 mpd during the promotion, which this year runs from 5th May 2023 till 30th June 2023.

Miles earning during this promotion is unlimited, and all miles can (and should!) be immediately transferred 1:1 directly into your KrisFlyer account.

Participating merchants

Here are the Kris+ merchants participating in this bonus miles campaign when you earn miles through the app on payment of your bill via Apple Pay or Google Pay, now the sole way to do so.

The bonus varies between +6 mpd (at 6 mpd restaurants) to +3 mpd (at 9 mpd restaurants), but in all cases the earning rate shown on the Kris+ app will reflect the total bonus rate of 12 mpd once the offer begins on 5th May 2023.

The list is unfortunately a little shorter this year, with only 14 restaurants included, compared to 20 restaurants in the 2022 offer.

The 12 mpd deal is also a little less tasty this time round (15 mpd was offered in 2022), though as we recently reported Kris+ is also cutting its regular earn rates at over 70 merchants from 1st May 2023, by up to 67% in some cases.

Special menus

Even though this campaign will offer the bonus rate for all spend at these 14 merchants during the upcoming promotion period, Kris+ has once again arranged specially curated set menus at each of these restaurants, exclusively for Kris+ customers.

You will still earn 12 mpd plus your credit card miles or points when purchasing these special menus during the promotion.

Full details of these menus will be provided in due course, prior to the launch of the 12 mpd earning offer next Friday, while Kris+ is also promising its own “Kris+ cocktail” this time round.

How to earn miles when purchasing

Since September 2021, in-app payments have been the only way to earn KrisPay miles when purchasing in-store at an earning partner.

The process is straightforward, just scan the merchant’s QR code and make payment using Apple Pay or Google Pay with your linked credit card.

The app then credits your miles instantly.

Which card to use

As you probably already know, with Kris+ you’ll earn KrisPay miles for your transaction (which you then can and should convert into KrisFlyer miles), on top of the usual points you’ll get when using your best credit card to make in-app payment.

Where possible, you’ll want to be using a credit card offering a bonus rate when making payment at these restaurants, or via mobile wallets, which you’ll then earn separately and in addition to 12 mpd through Kris+.

The following cards will earn at their bonus rate of between 3 mpd and 6 mpd for spend in the specific dining MCCs listed (or in some cases on all Kris+ spend).

Don’t use your Citi Rewards card to make payment with Apple Pay or Google Pay on Kris+, since online transactions using this card specifically exclude mobile wallet payments and will therefore earn at the basic rate of 0.4 mpd.

If you’re not sure whether your bonus miles credit card is eligible for the merchant of your choice, our advice is to use your best card for general spend miles accrual, especially if the transaction is substantial.

For smaller amounts you may wish to take the chance, but remember most bonus category spend credit cards earn just 0.4 mpd when you make transactions that the bank decides don’t qualify.

Don’t forget to transfer straight to KrisFlyer miles

KrisPay miles earned through Kris+ can only be transferred to your KrisFlyer account within 7 days of the transaction. To do so, simply tap on the “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button which will appear on the miles earned confirmation screen or transaction details screen.

You can do so later (within 7 days), but why wait?

Remember that KrisPay miles earned per transaction can only be transferred to your account in their entirety. If you earned 100 KrisPay miles from a single Kris+ transaction, for example, the full 100 KrisPay miles must be transferred to your KrisFlyer account. If you have already spent some of your KrisPay miles earned, a partial transfer option is not available.

We therefore recommend transferring to KrisFlyer immediately following any Kris+ earning transaction, in case you either forget or make a mistake later.

Quandoo

KrisFlyer has a partnership with online restaurant booking service Quandoo, usually offering 100 KrisFlyer miles per completed reservation at over 18,000 restaurants worldwide, but currently offering an enhanced rate of 150 miles for bookings made and completed by 9th May 2023.

That could make this a useful way to maximise miles earning during the Kris+ Gastronomy Series, since this 150 miles are in addition to those you’ll earn when paying the bill via the Kris+ app itself.

Makan+

Kris+ also has Makan+, a restaurant reservation portal powered by Chope, which allows you to accrue 100 KrisPay miles for each attended reservation at over 1,000 restaurants across Singapore, including 11 of the 14 participating in this 12 mpd Gastronomy Series promotion.

You can use Makan+ to make a reservation at the following participating Gastronomy Series restaurants:

Miles are awarded the month following your booking and, crucially, can be transferred directly into your KrisFlyer account, within 7 days of crediting in the Kris+ app.

There is no cap on the number of monthly reservations you can make this way, which should allow a decent accrual throughout the year when booking restaurants you were probably heading to anyway, but it’s especially nice to stack with this 12 mpd deal too.

A great bonus earning rate of 12 mpd is coming soon for 14 restaurants across Singapore – between 5th May 2023 and the end of June 2023, when you pay in-app via the Kris+ app to earn additional miles at the payment stage.

There will also be specially-priced set menus at each restaurant exclusive for Kris+ members, but even if you don’t fancy those you’ll still earn the bonus rate when choosing from the regular menus.

These miles will come in addition to the points you’ll earn on your credit card, for a total haul of up to 18 mpd, but even with a decent general spend card offering 1.2 mpd on local transactions you can still net a great 13.2 mpd during this offer.

Remember to transfer your KrisPay miles immediately into the KrisFlyer programme after earning, since if they become partially used by mistake or you forget after 7 days, they’ll be stuck in the Kris+ app, where their value is dismal (0.67 cents each).

Even if none of the 14 restaurants participating in this Gastronomy Series promotion are of interest to you, remember that Kris+ now has 400 earning partners across Singapore for in-store transactions, and while earn rates for about 70 of these are reducing from next month, the majority are unaffected, with up to 9 mpd on offer.

That means if you’re not already doing so – you should be regularly trying to pick up additional miles this way throughout the year at various F&B, fashion and retail stores.
