Pelago offering 2,500 bonus KrisFlyer miles on your next booking… maybe!

Pelago is celebrating KrisFlyer's 25th anniversary, with a 2,500 bonus miles offer... that will apparently expire whenever they see fit.
EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.

Most of our regular readers are now familiar with Pelago, Singapore Airlines’ own Klook-like “travel experiences platform” launched in late 2020 and offering a range of activities and attraction tickets both in Singapore and overseas at SIA destinations like Bangkok, Phuket and London.

In June 2023, Pelago hiked its year-round KrisFlyer miles earn rate from 1 mpd to 3 mpd, making it a more attractive proposition when booking experiences like this, especially with it becoming the only experiences platform featuring additional miles earning.

Now Pelago has announced a new deal to coincide with KrisFlyer’s 25th anniversary, which falls today – 1st February 2024.

Between 1st February 2024 and 14th February 2024, you can earn an additional 2,500 KrisFlyer miles on top of those you would normally accrue, for a single Pelago booking of S$100 or more.

The offer is valid for both new and existing Pelago customers, but is not stackable with other promotions or promo codes.

Here’s how it works:

  • Make your Pelago booking via bit.ly/MilesRushWeek4
  • Spend a minimum of S$100 in a single booking
  • Enter your KrisFlyer membership number during check out
  • Complete your booked activity by 30th April 2024
  • Bonus miles will be credited by 31st May 2024

Each customer can only accrue the 2,500 bonus miles once during this promotion.

For example, if your make a booking during this promotion with a transaction amount of S$100, with the activity on or before 30th April 2024, you will accrue 2,800 KrisFlyer miles under this campaign:

  • 300 miles (regular 3 mpd earning credited within one week of the activity having been completed)
  • + 2,500 miles (bonus from “Miles Rush Week” by 31st May 2024)
  • = 2,800 miles total (28 mpd)

One unfortunate downside of this offer is that Pelago states that “limited redemptions apply”, but without saying exactly how limited.

The deal could max out at 10, 100, 100,000 or however many bookings they decide via the dedicated link.

Since the bonus is not reflected during the booking process or at the payment stage, unfortunately you’re left in the dark here and that means you’re taking a gamble – the 2,500 bonus miles simply aren’t guaranteed.

“Limited redemptions apply.”

“The Bonus Miles to be awarded under the Promotion is subject to the availability of Bonus Miles allocated for redemption. Pelago reserves the right to terminate the Promotion in the event Bonus Miles are no longer available for redemption.”

Pelago

Clear as mud.

Update 1 February 2.50pm: Singapore Airlines has confirmed to Mainly Miles that the upper cap for redemption under this promotion is the first 1,500 bookings. Sheesh – they couldn’t even go to 2,500 for the 25th anniversary!

Full terms and conditions for this promotion are available here.

Earn bonus miles at Pelago with the right credit card

Pelago’s payment provider is using the following Merchant Category Code (MCC) when processing credit card payments:

MCC 4722: Travel Agencies and Tour Operators

Pelago bookings also classify as online transactions, giving you the following options to earn up to an additional 6 mpd through your credit card points for these transactions, for 9 mpd equivalent total year-round, or an even better 34 mpd (3 mpd + 25 mpd + 6 mpd) for a booking of up to S$100 under this new “Miles Rush Week” promotion.

UOB Lady’s
UOB Lady’s Solitaire

6 mpd Capped at S$1,000 per calendar month (Lady’s) or S$3,000 per month (Lady’s Solitaire), provided Travel is selected as one of your bonus earn categories.

(see our review)
4 mpd For online spend, capped at S$2,000 per calendar month.

Citi Lazada
2 mpd For travel transactions under MCC 4722, capped at S$2,250 spend per statement cycle but combined with other 4 mpd / 2 mpd bonus spend (i.e. S$2,250 cap assumes your only bonus category spend in a statement cycle is Travel).

Don’t use your Citi Rewards card for Pelago bookings, as MCC 4722 falls under the travel category, specifically excluded from earning the 4 mpd rate for online spend with that card.

It will therefore only earn 0.4 mpd, so it’s probably much better in that case to use your best general spend card, assuming you don’t have one of the above options, or have already hit your monthly bonus cap with these other cards.

The HSBC Revolution card also no longer awards bonus points for MCC 4722 transactions.

Strangely, the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card, which earns 3 mpd for all SIA Group spend including at the KrisShop and more recently on Kris+, still does not award this higher rate for Pelago transactions.

It’s just the basic 1.2 mpd to look forward to in this case – so ideally pick another option from the table above, or failing that a better general spend card!

Summary

Pelago is offering both new and existing users 2,500 bonus KrisFlyer miles on top of the usual accrual rate for a single booking of S$100 or more though a dedicated link to the platform over the next two weeks.

Be sure to use the right credit card when you book, for an additional bonus of up to 6 mpd.

While the latest 2,500 miles deal is a nice boost, “limited redemptions apply”, and Pelago isn’t giving us any clues about exactly how limited this one is.

Saying “limited redemptions” without putting a number on it makes this a somewhat useless promotion. Is it 1 customer, 6, 943, 86,300 customers?? Who knows!

Not the best start to KrisFlyer’s 25th birthday promotion. What a shame, let’s hope there’s better to come!
