There’s an interesting new route announcement today from Qantas low-cost subsidiary Jetstar, with the airline becoming the sole carrier to operate non-stop flights from Singapore to Broome in the Kimberly region of Western Australia.
The new service will operate on a seasonal basis, between June and October 2024 and then from April to October in subsequent years, the dry season in Broome which sees average temperatures of between 21 and 28 degrees and is the peak travel period for the region.
SilkAir previously operated charter flights between Singapore and Broome using Boeing 737-800s in both 2018 and 2019, but the route has not made a comeback since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The schedule
Here’s how the flight schedule looks for this new service.

* Next day
Tuesdays will get a morning service to Broome, returning in the afternoon, while Saturdays will see an afternoon departure from Changi and a late evening flight in the return direction.
The schedule allows for 3-night or 4-night trips to this new destination, or even longer 7, 10 , 11 or 14-night holidays for those looking to explore further (here’s what to do in and around Broome).
With a flight time of 4.5 hours, this new link will significantly reduce current journey times from Singapore to Broome by at least five hours, avoiding the need for travellers to first fly to Perth, and then take another 2.5 hour flight from there.
You can also use Broome as a stepping stone to or from the rest of Australia, with domestic flights to cities like Darwin (1.5 hours) and Perth (2.5 hours), plus seasonal links to Melbourne (4.5 hours) and Sydney (5 hours).
Jetstar will also restart non-stop Singapore – Perth services in August 2024, as we recently reported, becoming the fourth airline on that route in addition to Qantas, Scoot and Singapore Airlines.
Fares
Jetstar has launched this route with promotional introductory one-way fares from Singapore to Broome from S$125 and from Broome to Singapore from AU$145, with an additional $10 discount in each direction for Club Jetstar members.
These fares are available until 2nd April 2024.
You can also redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points for Jetstar flights, but at 18,000 one-way from Singapore to Broome, with taxes and fees payable on top of that, it’s definitely not worth doing so – unless the one-way fare increases to something like S$400 or more.
By that stage though, award seats on Jetstar flights don’t tend to be available – so it’s a moot point.
As usual, save your miles for full-service Business Class awards where possible, for best value.

Jetstar’s flights from Singapore are operated by two airlines; Singapore-based Jetstar Asia (3K) and Australia’s Jetstar Airways (JQ).

Summary
Singapore is getting an 8th non-stop destination in Australia later this year, with new direct Jetstar flights to and from Broome twice per week, operating on a seasonal basis.
The route saves travellers from Singapore at least five hours of travelling time to the Kimberly region of Western Australia, by cutting out a transit in Perth.
The service is a more established version of the SilkAir charters we saw on this route in 2018 and 2019.

That’s certainly an interesting new route… but with the unspoiled nature of WA let’s hope it remains sustainable and popular with Singaporeans. Great launching pad for a road trip all along the coasts… Port Hedland, Karratha, Learmonth…
