OCBC Voyage offering 40,000 miles sign-up bonus, with $3,500 spend

Get a 40,000 miles welcome bonus when signing up for the OCBC Voyage card between now and mid-July, with a spend of S$3,500.

Buy miles for 1.25 cents each.

OCBC is offering a new welcome bonus for those signing up for its Voyage card between now and 14th July 2024, with 40,000 miles credited to your account on payment of the first year annual fee, subject to a minimum spend of S$3,500 in the first full month of card membership.

Normally this card offers a 15,000 miles sign-up bonus, so the 40,000 miles bonus is a great opportunity if you were on the fence about signing up, allowing you to effectively ‘buy’ miles for 1.25 cents each (assuming you have S$3,500 spend to make anyway), even if you place no value on the card’s other perks.

To qualify you’ll have to be new to OCBC credit cards as a principal cardholder, or have cancelled your last OCBC credit card as principal cardholder at least 12 months prior to your new application.

The non-waivable annual fee of S$498 (including GST) must be paid.

How it works

You will qualify to receive 40,000 Voyage Miles (transferable to 40,000 KrisFlyer miles, among others) provided you:

  • Apply during the promotion period of 15th April 2024 to 14th July 2024.
  • Make an eligible spend of S$3,500 by the end of the first full calendar month following approval (e.g. if your card account opening date is 10th May 2024, the qualifying spend period will be from 10th May 2024 to 30th June 2024).
  • Pay the annual fee of S$498 (inclusive of GST).

If you do not meet the eligible spend of S$3,500 in the first full calendar month, you will instead be eligible for the card’s year-round 15,000 Voyage Miles sign-up bonus, on payment of the annual fee.

Spend by supplementary cardholders on your account is aggregated with primary cardholder spend when assessing the S$3,500 minimum requirement for this bonus miles promotion.

The 40,000 bonus miles (or 15,000 miles if you don’t hit the spend threshold) will be credited your card account within three months of the end of the promotion period, which is by 14th October 2024.

Qualifying spend

Eligible spend for the S$3,500 you’ll need to clock to maximise this promotion refers to any retail transaction (including face-to-face or online purchases) excluding those defined in Section 1.4 of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Voyage Credit Card Programme, available here.

Noteworthy exclusions apply for:

  • Charitable donations
  • Education
  • EZ-Link transactions
  • Grab and GoJek rides
  • GrabPay top-ups
  • Government services
  • Insurance premiums
  • Tax payments
  • Utility bills

As part of this promotion, OCBC is also offering Voyage cardholders the opportunity to earn up to 50,000 additional bonus miles, for a potential total of 90,000 bonus miles, when trading via an OEA or OSPL Basic Trading Account.

In this case, you will be eligible to earn a bonus 12,500 Voyage Miles for every S$150,000 in successful trades between 15th April 2024 and 14th July 2024, capped at 12,500 Voyage Miles per customer.

There is an overall upper cap of 2,125,000 Voyage Miles for all customers in total.

To be eligible, you will need to:

  • Be an OCBC Voyage cardholder (new or existing)
  • Already have an OEA or OSPL Basic Trading Account, or open a new one between 15th April 2024 and 14th July 2024
  • Perform at least S$150,000 of successful trades on your OEA or OSPL Basic Trading Account between 15th April 2024 and 14th July 2024.
  • Terms and Conditions Governing the VOYAGE Miles Adventure Promotion
  • Customers who received Voyage Miles from the January – April 2024 promotion ‘90,000 / 50,000 VOYAGE Miles Adventure Promotion’ will not be eligible for these bonus miles.

About the OCBC Voyage card

In 2022 the OCBC Voyage card made headlines for the wrong reasons, with cardholders having their annual complimentary limo ride entitlement slashed from 24 per year to just 8 per year, while points transfers to airline miles like KrisFlyer, previously free, now all incur a fee of S$25 per conversion.

Nonetheless, the card earns 1.3 mpd for local spend and 2.2 mpd for foreign currency transactions, and most recently offers unlimited access to over 1,200 DragonPass airport lounges.

It also offers 15,000 miles on renewal each year, for payment of the annual fee, while transfers to KrisFlyer miles are available in one-mile denominations (though most would avoid a small transfer given that it now costs S$25 a pop!).

In mid-2023, eight new hotel and airline transfer partners were also be added to the card’s repertoire, though it has to be said the transfer ratios are poor for almost all non-KrisFlyer options.

  • Accor Live Limitless
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • British Airways Executive Club (and indirectly, Qatar Airways Privilege Club)
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Etihad Guest
  • IHG One Rewards
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • United MileagePlus

You can also take advantage of the card’s Annual Service Fee Upgrade if you wish, by paying:

  • S$3,270 and receiving 150,000 KrisFlyer miles (2.16 cents mile)
  • S$10,200 and receiving 500,000 KrisFlyer miles (2.04 cents per mile)

Instead of the S$498 regular annual fee.

While those large miles quantities may come in handy, those are over-the-odds rates to buy miles in our book, so you’d need to have a very specific and good-value use for them to consider either of these options.

Do note that if you opt for one of the Annual Service Fee Upgrade options, you’ll get KrisFlyer miles credited directly, not Voyage Miles which can then potentially be transferred to other programmes.

Terms and conditions for the Annual Service Fee Upgrade options are available here.
