Avios Deals Finnair Oneworld

Amazing Deal: Buy Avios for 1.35 Singapore cents via Finnair

Buy Finnair Avios with up to 50% off over the next 2 weeks - from just 1.35 Singapore cents each, the lowest price we've seen - fully transferable to Qatar Airways and British Airways.

Back in 2024, Finnair adopted Avios points for its Finnair Plus frequent flyer reward programme, meaning its members now earn and redeem the same currency as schemes including British Airways, Qatar Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus.

As with these other programmes, the key benefit here is that you can move your Avios around between these programmes free, instantly, and at a 1:1 ratio, simply by moving them into ‘hub’ Avios partner The British Airways Club, then across to the scheme of your choice.

All you need is a frequent flyer account with each of your preferred partners (a BA account is a must, as you can see), then simply link your accounts, which is easy enough to do between Finnair and BA – see this guide.

This process is fully reversible too, so this gives you lots of flexibility with Avios points and the opportunity to redeem on a variety of non-Oneworld airline partners too, like Bangkok Airways (via Qatar Airways).

Most of our readers don’t have a Finnair Plus account, so the airline’s occasional miles purchase promotions don’t usually generate much interest here in Singapore, however the programme’s switch to Avios, and record low pricing in this latest sale, make it well worth a look.

Between 2nd November 2026 and 16th November 2026, you can buy Finnair Avios points with a discount of up to 50% on the usual rate, as shown in the following table.

Note that this is a discount sale, rather than a bonus one like September’s promotion. A 50% discount is the equivalent of a 100% bonus, so it’s a much better deal.

The cheapest option when buying Finnair points is to do so in Japanese Yen (JPY), which brings the cost per point down to 1.35 Singapore cents at the cheapest purchase tier.

You can switch your currency to JPY at the Finnair Shop to switch the pricing across.

Crucially, this has nothing to do with your account address or default currency – anyone can opt to buy Avios in JPY via Finnair.

  Buy Finnair Avios points

This is a much cheaper option than buying Avios in Euros, Finnair’s default currency, which sees best-case pricing of 1.05 Euro cents per point (~1.54 Singapore cents per point).

Other currencies you can purchase Avios in via Finnair at a better rate than in Euros (but still not as cheap as JPY) include:

  • USD: From 1.09 US cents (1.38 Singapore cents)
  • GBP: From 0.88 GB pence (1.49 Singapore cents)

Japanese Yen remains the cheapest option, and is the one you should be using, since an FCY fee is payable for all Finnair Avios purchases anyway for most of our readers based in Singapore.

The promotion is only open to those who:

  • joined the Finnair Plus programme before 30th October 2026; and
  • have a minimum balance of 50 Avios in their Finnair Plus account.

From previous ‘buy Avios’ deals with the Finnair Plus scheme, we can confirm that a simple instant transfer of Avios from your British Airways account immediately unlocks the deal, even if your current balance in the programme is less than 50 Avios.

As an example, you can transfer 500 Avios to your Finnair Plus account from BA to be eligible for the deal (though actually only 50 are required)

Remember you can immediately transfer these Avios points 1:1 into other programmes like British Airways and Qatar Airways, for some great value redemptions.

One downside is that you’ll have to commit to a large purchase of at least 100,000 Avios to get the cheapest rate of 1.667 JPY (1.35 Singapore cents) per Avios point.

While the 50% discount also applies to 85,000 – 99,000 Avios purchases, these are charged at a higher base price, so the cost per point is less attractive.

For smaller top-ups, you’ll be paying more, though 1.41 Singapore cents for the 85,000 – 99,000 Avios band is still excellent.

Do watch out for the pricing ‘cliff’ just below the best rate. A purchase of 96,000 – 99,000 Avios actually costs more than 100,000 Avios (166,700 JPY / ~S$1,350), thanks to the lower base price from 100,000. That’s why we’re using the best rate of 1.35 cents, from a purchase of 100,000+ Avios, for all the examples in this article.

Purchase transactions must be completed between 2nd November 2026 (00:00, GMT+2) and 16th November 2026 (23:59, GMT+2) to benefit from the discount.

That means for most of our readers the deal ends at 05:59 Singapore Time (GMT+8) on 17th November 2026.

Avios will be added to your account 1 – 3 days after your purchase. You can buy a maximum of 200,000 Finnair Avios each calendar year.

This cap applies to Avios you buy (combined with any you receive as a gift). Since this is a discount sale rather than a bonus one, there are no extra Avios landing on top, so 200,000 Avios, costing 333,400 JPY (around S$2,700), is the most you can pick up. Any Avios you’ve already bought from Finnair in 2026, including in September’s bonus sale, count towards this year’s cap.

This is the cheapest we’ve seen Finnair sell Avios, beating its previous best 50% buy Avios discount in November 2024, which saw the price per point as low as 1.5 Singapore cents each, and well below the 1.8 cents in September’s sale.

Unlock valuable redemptions

For our readers based in Singapore, there are some great value redemptions using Avios points, primarily via the Qatar Airways Privilege Club or through The British Airways Club.

Before you jump to transfer out of Finnair Plus though, do be aware that the programme does have some ‘sweet spots’ of its own, such as:

  • Singapore to Tokyo on JAL in Business: 41,500 Avios
  • Singapore to Tokyo on JAL in First: 53,000 Avios
  • Singapore to Europe on Cathay in Business: 72,500 Avios
  • Singapore to US/Canada on Cathay in Business: 85,000 Avios

For the more regular Avios awards though, Qatar Airways Privilege Club is a good option.

One example is to take the excellent Qatar Airways Qsuite to Europe or the USA in Business Class.

Granted this isn’t an easy sell at the moment due to the Iran War, but hopefully this can still be useful in the not too distant future.

Here’s an example of how you can use this Finnair buy Avios promotion, then transfer to Qatar Airways via BA, and fly from Singapore to Athens or some other cities in Business Class on Qatar Airways for just 70,000 Avios + S$320 in taxes during off-peak dates.

As you can see, 75,000 Avios, worth around S$1,013 at this sale’s best rate, is enough to get you from Singapore to London via Doha in the Qatar Airways Qsuite Business Class, with around S$350 in additional taxes and fees to pay.

That’s a good deal compared to parting with 108,500 miles + S$65 with KrisFlyer, if you don’t mind a stop in Doha.

While a transit in Doha is potentially inconvenient, do remember that Qatar Airways is serving many cities in Europe and the USA which require a transit anyway when you fly with SIA – like Mykonos, Sofia, Madrid, Boston or Washington.

A transit in Doha is almost always part of your journey with Qatar Airways.

Do ensure that it’s regular award space you’re booking on Qatar Airways flights, not one of the airline’s ‘Flexi award’ options, which offer additional space at double the usual rate (not dissimilar to Singapore Airlines Advantage awards).

Flexi awards have a “Flexi” label, so beware of that – it’s really poor value in comparison!

This award is 95,000 Avios in Business Class for a regular redemption, but double that for a Flexi award

Qatar Airways also now applies ‘peak’ Avios award pricing on more popular dates over busier periods, with around 20% more Avios needed, which obviously come in at poorer value and should also be avoided.

You can also now book Cathay Pacific awards via Qatar Privilege Club online at attractive rates, with no fuel surcharge added, as we reported back in 2024.

These awards represent significant savings on the KrisFlyer Saver award rate with Singapore Airlines, and allow Oneworld lounge access, arguably a superior pre-flight experience in Cathay Pacific lounges and those of their partners like Qantas.

There’s also the option to redeem flights between Singapore and Koh Samui on Bangkok Airways, a Qatar Airways partner, for 11,000 Avios + S$67 in Economy Class.

This can be a great way to circumvent high fares on this route (and yes, even Scoot’s fares can be eye-watering!).

There’s also a range of (mainly short- to medium-haul) redemptions you can unlock with Qatar’s Privilege Club, by buying Finnair Avios at a 50% discount, then simply transferring them across.

Here are some examples.

As you can see you can unlock some attractive “fares” with this buy Avios deal.

A standout deal here is the Singapore to Helsinki option with Finnair, at just 62,500 Avios + S$244 in taxes, which works out at just S$844 worth of Avios at this sale’s best rate.

You can also redeem this product via the Finnair Plus programme directly, which even has access to additional award space between 355 days and 360 days in advance, if you’re able to plan your travel early.

You can pick up Finnair’s new ‘AirLounge’ Business Class non-stop from Singapore to Helsinki for 62,500 Avios.
(Photo: Finnair)

Remember that even relatively basic awards like Malaysia Airlines Business Class from Singapore to KL are also your ticket to Qatar Airways’ superb Premium Lounge at Changi Airport, for some pre-flight champagne and à la carte dining.

You can also now transfer Avios into the Loganair programme (via BA) for a wide range of UK domestic flights on the regional carrier, often priced at over GBP200 (~S$350) one-way, for only 6,500 Avios, with minimal taxes and fees to pay.

With a redemption in mind, it’s hard to go wrong at this price.

We value Avios points at around 1.8 cents, so buying them at 1.35 cents is a 25% discount on that before you even get to the redemption itself. It also comfortably beats other ways of buying miles outright, like BA’s own Avios Balance Boost (around 1.55 cents) or the UOB Payment Facility (from 1.7 cents).

You’ll also earn miles on the purchase itself. A 100,000 Avios purchase on the UOB VS card earns around 4,860 miles, more than offsetting the FCY fee of around S$44 on the transaction.

Here’s how far your money goes on a couple of popular routes:

  • Cathay Pacific Business Class, Singapore to Hong Kong: 22,000 Avios for around S$297 at this sale’s best rate, compared to 35,500 KrisFlyer miles (which we’d value at around S$639) for the same trip on SIA, with identical taxes
  • Qatar Airways Qsuite, Singapore to London: 75,000 Avios cost around S$1,013 at this sale’s best rate, compared to 108,500 KrisFlyer miles (which we’d value at around S$1,953). Even after Qatar’s higher taxes, that’s a saving of around S$660

With the larger purchases required to unlock these per point rates, leftover Avios aren’t a problem either, since they’re among the most versatile points out there.

11,000 Avios gets you to Koh Samui on Bangkok Airways, and 12,500 gets you Malaysia Airlines Business Class to KL, for a Qatar Changi lounge experience, even on morning flights.

The main risks are devaluation and award availability, so find the award seats you want first, then buy, transfer and book. Avios land 1 – 3 days after purchase, and if you’re booking in the next few months, the devaluation risk is small.

At 1.35 cents you also have a healthy margin, even if award prices creep up unexpectedly.

Which card to use

If you are going to buy Avios in this promotion, and assuming like most of our readers you are based in Singapore, you’ll want to achieve the maximum number of credit card points for the purchase itself when buying Finnair Avios.

The transaction happens in your selected currency (JPY in this case). Payment is processed by points.com, under MCC 7399.

You can earn the most extra points for the purchase transaction by using one of the following Singapore issued credit cards.

* Can also be paired with the Amaze card for lower FCY fees, while still earning 4 mpd

Do bear in mind the bonus caps on the 4 mpd cards, since a single 100,000 Avios purchase comes to around S$1,350. The UOB VS still edges it at that level (around 4,860 miles vs 4,320 with the Maybank HVS), but if you’re going for the full 200,000 Avios (~S$2,700), the uncapped Maybank HVS earns around 8,640 miles, compared to around 5,400 with the UOB VS.

Note that the DBS WWMC card now specifically excludes MCC 7399 from points earning, so while this card previously had ‘hit-and-miss’ success with Points.com transactions, which could usually be rectified later via customer service, it’s now well and truly on the ineligible list.

Summary

This Finnair Plus promotion is the best opportunity we’ve seen to purchase Avios, at up to 50% off, with the best rate of 1.35 Singapore cents each for bulk purchases of 100,000+ points, priced in Japanese Yen (you can use any currency you like, but this one provides the lowest cost per point).

Now that Finnair is fully integrated into the Avios ecosystem, this allows you to effectively top up your British Airways or Qatar Airways Avios balance at this excellent rate, unlocking excellent-value redemptions like Qatar’s Qsuite to Europe or Cathay Pacific Business Class without fuel surcharges.

Even Economy Class redemptions with Bangkok Airways can make a lot of sense as an Avios redemption, as can long-haul Finnair Business Class awards.

However, you’ll need existing Finnair Plus membership with at least 50 Avios (though you can instantly transfer in from or via BA), and the best rate requires a large purchase of 100,000 Avios or more. Do also be mindful of Qatar Airways’ peak pricing and avoid expensive Flexi awards when booking, if those are the awards you’re interested in.

As we always say – don’t buy speculatively! Avios points can always be devalued, sometimes without notice. But if you have a redemption in mind that you can lock in straight away or in the short-term, it’s hard to go wrong at this price.
