EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.
Back in October, we wrote about KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes, a last-minute saving on business and economy class redemption tickets with Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. There were two big catches though, only selected routes were included, and you had to book by the end of the current month, for travel in the following month.
Well – it’s back. Only this time, frankly it’s not as good. The current deal still gets you a 30% miles saving on redemptions, a pretty decent discount, but this time only SilkAir economy flights to and from 10 destinations, and Singapore Airlines business flights to and from five destinations, are on offer. As before, there are blackout dates on some routes too.
Last month the deal included Singapore Airlines business class redemptions to Sydney, Melbourne, Paris and Düsseldorf. This time, it’s just Düsseldorf that’s really of interest, plus four regional destinations.
Here’s a summary of the T&Cs:
- Book before 30 November 2017
- Valid for flights from 1 – 31 December 2017
- Only valid on “Saver” redemptions
- Respect blackout dates (e.g. Düsseldorf blocked 14-21 December)
- All sectors must be available on the offer (e.g. if the return sector is unavailable on the correct flight – the cost for the whole trip jumps! Book one-ways instead and still save.)
This time, waitlist is applicable for the discount. That’s a change from the last promotion, and means you can add one of these flights as a waitlist redemption for the discounted rate. If it comes up for confirmation, even after 30 November, it’s yours for the lower rate. At least, we assume so!
Booking tip
It’s not obvious on the website that the discounted miles rate is being applied – have faith! Click the “Saver” rate and then check the drop-down box, where the discounted rate is then shown:
The Düsseldorf deal
This is the only route this month that we think is of any real value, as it’s for business class and it’s a long-haul route, and so provides the biggest miles discount. Again please do check out the promo page over at the Singapore Airlines website as there may be other routes of interest to you.
Unfortunately there is a weeklong blackout on the Düsseldorf route from 14-21 December inclusive, and the flight only operates three days a week. It means there are only nine dates to get the deal, in both directions. However it still gives you chance to get to Europe for Christmas (just), provided you leave Singapore on 23 December.

On some dates there are six business saver award seats on offer. Here’s a table of the available dates, and the number of redemption seats available:
SIN-DUS | DUS-SIN | ||
Date | Savers | Date | Savers |
1 Dec | WL | ||
2 Dec | 5 | 3 Dec | 6 |
4 Dec | 1 | 5 Dec | 6 |
7 Dec | WL | 8 Dec | WL |
9 Dec | WL | 10 Dec | 3 |
11 Dec | 3 | 12 Dec | 5 |
23 Dec | 3 | 24 Dec | 1 |
25 Dec | 6 | 26 Dec | WL |
28 Dec | 5 | 29 Dec | WL |
30 Dec | 6 | 31 Dec | 1 |
WL: Waitlist. Availability correct at 18 November, and is subject to change.
The Düsseldorf flight is operated by the Airbus A350, which means you’re getting the very latest ‘2013 J’ business class product, albeit slightly tighter than the same seat on the 777-300ER, as we’ve covered here.
- Miles saving: 51,000 (return)
- Full-fare SIA return ticket in December: S$5,950 (1-stop business with Finnair, about $4,250)
Remember…
If you can’t secure a return flight with the discount, book a one-way instead, then pay the usual saver rate for the other sector. On a return flight with this offer, as soon as one of the two flights falls outside the promotion, it re-prices the whole thing to the higher rate, which will of course cost you more.
If you can only secure a one-way SIN-DUS flight on this promotion, or vice-versa, remember you can explore redemption options to/from other parts of Europe to complete your trip and still take advantage of the discount for half your journey. Singapore Airlines also flies to the following airports in Europe:
- Amsterdam
- Barcelona
- Copenhagen
- Frankfurt
- London-Heathrow
- Manchester
- Milan-Malpensa
- Munich
- Paris-CDG
- Rome-Fiumicino
- Stockholm-Arlanda
- Zurich
Conclusion
It’s less interesting this time, mainly because there is only one long-haul destination on offer, but if you need to fly to Europe next month, or vice-versa, and have yet to make your travel plans, this is a great offer. For regional destinations, with both Singapore Airlines and SilkAir, there may be some options which also help you next month, so check the full list here.
Get onto it now if you want to take advantage, as the offer ends on 30 November, and award seats may not last long.
