It’s foodpanda’s 8th birthday, so as you may have seen there are several offers out there to celebrate the occasion, including S$8 off the first 100 orders each day using a UOB card. KrisFlyer hasn’t been left out, with a bonus rate for customers collecting miles with their orders between 11th May 2020 and 10th June 2020.
There will also be up to four chances to win an 8,000 KrisFlyer miles bonus in a weekly draw.
The offer
You’ll normally earn 1 KrisFlyer mile for every S$1 spent on foodpanda orders, subject to a minimum order of S$20 (excluding delivery). KrisFlyer miles are then awarded on the total order including delivery, rounded down to the next whole dollar.
For example:
- An order total of S$21.99 (S$19.00 plus delivery) will not earn any KrisFlyer miles.
- An order total of S$53.99 including delivery will net you 53 KrisFlyer miles.
This 18% bonus offer is applicable to orders made from 11th May 2020 to 10th June 2020 and increases the KrisFlyer miles earning to 1.18 miles per dollar spent, so for the S$53.99 order used in the example above you’ll be entitled to 62.54 KrisFlyer miles (53 x 1.18).
Obviously your KrisFlyer account can only be credited with whole miles.
We checked with the foodpanda team how the rounding will then work and they advised us miles will then be rounded to the nearest whole mile, so in that example you would earn 63 miles (rounded up from 62.54) instead of the usual 53 miles.
8,000 bonus miles
As part of this promotion, foodpanda will also be running a weekly draw for a total of four customers to win 8,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles.
Foodpanda clarified with Mainly Miles that you’ll get one entry into the draw for every order you place in each weekly period (so multiple orders means multiple entries).
Entry period | Winner announced |
11th May – 19th May | 20th May |
20th May – 26th May | 27th May |
27th May – 2nd Jun | 3rd Jun |
3rd Jun – 10th Jun | 11th Jun |
The winners will have the 8,000 bonus miles credited to their KrisFlyer account within 14 working days.
Full details of the promotion are available here.
Pandamart orders are included
Foodpanda now also includes pandamart, allowing you to order from local food and grocery shops, depending on your location, including Marks & Spencer Food, Shell and Caltex stations, Wine Connection and FairPrice Xpress stores.
These are useful additional options during the Circuit Breaker period when we’re all trying to stay home as much as possible. We can even order a range of items from our local hardware store, in case we need to do some DIY to pass the time!
How to earn
When you place a foodpanda order using the app, at the checkout stage click on your contact details (the line which displays your email address).
There you’ll be able to add your KrisFlyer membership number before making payment. Remember that you’ll only earn KrisFlyer miles on orders of S$20 or more (excluding delivery). You’ll then earn miles on the total order amount (including delivery).
It’s the same process if you order through the foodpanda website, just click ‘Edit’ next to the ‘Personal Details’ section of the checkout page and you can enter your KrisFlyer number there.
After you’ve entered your KrisFlyer number once, it remembers it for future orders both on the app and the website.
When will the miles credit to KrisFlyer?
Miles from your foodpanda orders credit to your KrisFlyer account “within 60 days after each successful order” according to the terms and conditions.
We’ve used the service several times since KrisFlyer miles earning started in March 2019, and can confirm that in fact the miles appear to be credited in monthly ‘batches’ (around 6th to 9th of each month, for transactions made in the previous month).
That means if you’ve made a number of orders in a given period you’ll see them all appear in your KrisFlyer account on the same day, but as individual transactions.
The quickest order date to credit date we’ve had so far is 3 weeks, the longest about 7 weeks. This therefore certainly isn’t a quick way to earn miles (we’ve got a list of those, if you’re interested), but nonetheless you should see them credit within a couple of months.
Which credit card to use
This 1 mile per dollar accrual will credit directly to your KrisFlyer account, but of course you’ll be wanting to maximise your miles earning by using the best credit card you hold for the transaction too.
Pro Tip: OCBC Titanium Rewards cards currently earn 8 mpd for foodpanda orders, up to a maximum S$500 spend in that bonus category between now and 31st May 2020.
Personally we are using the Citi Rewards cards for foodpanda orders, which are successfully earning 4 miles per dollar for these transactions. That gives us an effective earn rate of at least 5 miles per dollar, effectively 5.18 miles per dollar under this new deal, however it is capped at S$1,000 spend per card per month.
Currently Citi has a promotion offering up to 8 miles per dollar on foodpanda transactions until 30th June 2020. Registration is required and it is limited to the first 10,000 customers to sign up.
Here are the cards we have identified which earn 4 miles per dollar on foodpanda orders:
- Citi Rewards Mastercard
- Citi Rewards Visa
- DBS WWMC (see our review)
- UOB PPV (see our review)
Even if you don’t use a credit card offering enhanced miles earning for online spend, the entry-level BOC Elite Miles card earns 1.5 mpd on local spend and will therefore net you an effective total of at least 2.5 mpd on foodpanda orders of S$20 or more.
Cards earning less than that, like the DBS Altitude at 1.2 miles per dollar for local spend, will still allow you to achieve something in the order of 2.2 miles per dollar in total for foodpanda transactions.

How it compares with GrabFood
Ahh GrabRewards, the loyalty programme that keeps on devaluing. As you may recall from our article in mid-January, yet another (significant) devaluation kicked in on 2nd March 2020.
The latest earning rates for GrabFood transactions are:
These can be converted to KrisFlyer miles in batches of 5,000 points to 500 miles, 1,000 points to 100 miles or 500 points to 50 miles, which is the same 10:1 ratio for all members (1,400 points to 160 miles for Platinum members is sadly a thing of the past).
That results in the following equivalent miles earning structure:
- Member / Silver: 0.2 mpd
- Gold: 0.3 mpd
- Platinum: 0.4 mpd
Now we’re not complaining about earning additional miles, after all Deliveroo has no loyalty programme or miles earning option at all, but these are really lousy earn rates when foodpanda is offering at least 1 mpd.
Nonetheless with no minimum order threshold to earn GrabRewards points, this is still ‘better than nothing’ for smaller orders, and you may find a different selection through GrabFood.
Summary
Foodpanda used to award an impressive 2 KrisFlyer miles per dollar spent on its orders, so an increase from 1 mpd to 1.18 mpd during May isn’t exactly a game changer.
Having said that foodpanda is now really the only delivery service offering a meaningful number of KrisFlyer miles with your order, on top of those you’ll be getting from your credit card, and now also includes some useful ‘pandamart’ grocery options too.
There’s also the chance for you to win 8,000 KrisFlyer miles in four weekly draws as part of this promotion.
Adding this offer to credit card earn rates of up to 4 miles per dollar (even 8 miles per dollar in some cases), like with the Citi Rewards cards, means earning a total of 5.18 miles per dollar or even 9.18 miles per dollar between now and 10th June on foodpanda orders.
