Miles of Good: Donate your KrisFlyer miles to frontline heroes

Do you know a frontline worker during COVID-19 who you think deserves 60,000 miles?

Healthcare Workers

Singapore Airlines has launched a new programme for KrisFlyer members to donate anywhere between 1,000 and 100,000 of their miles for essential frontline heroes across the world, in recognition for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ‘Miles of Good’ campaign runs for four months from now until 20th November 2020, however if you wish to nominate a specific frontline hero to be eligible you’ll have to do so in the next three weeks, by 10th August 2020.

“Each eligible nominated frontliner will receive 60,000 KrisFlyer miles. With this gift of miles, they will be able to redeem air tickets for a well-deserved break, book a hotel stay for a staycation, rent a car for a road trip, or redeem for gift items on KrisShop, after the pandemic is contained and some normalcy has returned to their daily lives.”

Who can you nominate?

Singapore Airlines has defined everyday essential workers as:

  • Healthcare workers
  • Supermarket workers
  • Courier / food delivery / postal services workers
  • Cleaners

The list is not exhaustive so you can nominate an individual working in another industry, though you do have to explain why you are nominating that person.

Your nominee must be employed in the same country your KrisFlyer account is registered in. For example, a member in Denmark can only nominate an essential worker employed in Denmark.

How to donate

Simply visit the donation link here. You will be prompted to log in to your KrisFlyer account and then invited to make your miles donation.

You can simply make a general donation to the campaign:

MFG1

Or alternatively you can nominate an individual frontliner:

MFG2

Donations are between 1,000 and 100,000 miles, however you can make as many donations are you wish and can also choose to nominate different individuals each time.

Your nominee(s) must have a KrisFlyer account, or otherwise will have to create an account on email notification by Singapore Airlines by 28th September 2020.

How will the nominees be chosen?

Not every person you nominate will receive any miles, only the first 1,667 nominees who meet the requirements will receive their gift, totalling 60,000 miles.

Singapore Airlines will notify the selected nominees by 7th September 2020 via the email address provided in the nomination form, with information on how to claim their miles. The miles may take four to six weeks to be credited into the nominee’s KrisFlyer account following the end of the campaign period on 20th November 2020.

In total 100,020,000 miles will be donated, with Singapore Airlines contributing 30,000,000 of those.

Will the miles expire?

These miles will be valid for a period of three years from the date they are credited into the selected nominee’s KrisFlyer account, following which they will expire and no extensions will be permitted.

What if the target is not reached?

If the total number of donated KrisFlyer miles is less than the total number of KrisFlyer miles intended to be distributed to the 1,667 selected nominees, the airline will distribute the total number of KrisFlyer miles accumulated in each country equally among the selected nominees in that relevant country.

That means the final number of KrisFlyer miles distributed to each selected nominee may be less than 60,000.

Any excess miles will be donated to the Community Chest Singapore.

The Miles for Good campaign is open to KrisFlyer members residing in Singapore and the following countries:

Summary

This programme to award frontline workers across the world in recognition of their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic is a nice gesture of appreciation for their dedication at this difficult time.

“As most of us stayed safe at home, individuals employed in essential services endured personal sacrifices to serve in the frontline. To everyone in healthcare, transport services, all the way to supermarket staff and delivery personnel, we want to thank and recognise their unwavering dedication, resilience, and hard work during these times.”

KrisFlyer

If you know someone in your country who you think deserves up to 60,000 miles in their KrisFlyer account, all it takes is a donation from as little as 1,000 miles to nominate them.

Remember you can nominate supermarket workers and transport / delivery drivers as well as the obvious inclusion of healthcare staff, so there’s probably at least one worth person you can think of.

Provided they are eligible and among the first 1,667 nominated, this will be a very nice gesture for them later this year.
