KrisPay continues to roll out promotional miles earning rates at selected merchants this month, with 26 island-wide Gong Cha outlets and 20 Xpressflower stores offering triple miles for in-store purchases, equivalent to 3 KrisFlyer miles per dollar spent. As always, that’s in addition to your usual credit card points for a total potential earning of 7 mpd.
These offers are running alongside a deal for up to 9 mpd (plus credit card miles) at four PasarBella@Suntec food hall outlets, which ends on 28th August 2020.
There are 32 Gong Cha outlets in Singapore. You’ll get 3 KrisPay miles for every S$1 spent using cash or credit card between now and 31st August 2020, at all except the following six stores:
- Changi Hospital (CGH)
- NUS UTown
- SMU café 2.0
- Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD)
- Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH)
A full list of Gong Cha outlets is available here.
You’ll get 3 KrisPay miles per dollar spent at all 20 Xpressflower outlets across Singapore for in-store purchases (remember, KrisPay doesn’t allow you to earn for online transactions, so forget the “.com” bit here). This offer runs until 4th September 2020.
A full list of Xpressflower outlets is available here.
Which card to use
You’ll want to be using a credit card offering 4 mpd for contactless payments when making in-store purchases at these outlets, which you’ll then earn on top of the 3 mpd through KrisPay for a total effective earn rate of 7 mpd.
Gong Cha told Mainly Miles it codes under MCC 5812 – Eating Places and Restaurants. Xpressflower told us their outlets code under MCC 5999 – Miscellaneous and Specialty Retail Stores. That means contactless payments using the recently revamped HSBC Revolution card should also be eligible for 4 mpd at both of these merchants.
|Card||Miles per S$1||Notes|
|4.0||4 mpd on mobile contactless transactions (don’t tap the physical card), capped at S$1,110 per calendar month.|
UOB Visa Signature
|4.0||4 mpd on contactless transactions subject to a minimum spend of $1,000 in local transactions per statement period, capped at S$2,000 per statement month.|
(see our review)
|4.0||4 mpd on contactless payments at eating places (MCC 5812), florists and specialty retail stores (MCC 5992/5999), capped at S$1,000 per month.|
Even if you don’t have one of these cards, or contactless payment is not offered at the outlet you visit, you should be earning at least 1.2 mpd on your general spend credit card in Singapore, such as the DBS Altitude or Citi PremierMiles card, for a still respectable 4.2 mpd equivalent total earning.
How KrisPay earn works
Remember we never recommend using KrisPay miles to pay for goods or services through the KrisPay app, it’s only earning miles which is a good value proposition. We explain how it works in our article from March last year, when earning miles through the KrisPay app was first launched.
- You’ll earn miles through KrisPay regardless of the payment method, simply key in the total amount and the merchant will scan the QR code from your phone and approve the miles credit.
- You pay the merchant directly using cash, a credit card or debit card. KrisPay does not handle the transaction in any way. That means you can double-dip by earning KrisPay miles (which convert 1:1 into KrisFlyer) and your usual credit card miles at the same time.
Earned KrisPay miles can be transferred to your KrisFlyer account within 7 days of earning the miles. To do so, simply tap on the “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button which will appear on the miles earned confirmation screen or transaction details screen.
KrisPay miles earned per transaction can only be transferred to your account in their entirety. If you earned 100 KrisPay miles from a single transaction, the full 100 KrisPay miles must be transferred to your KrisFlyer account. If you have already spent some of your KrisPay miles earned, a partial transfer option is not available.
We therefore recommend transferring to KrisFlyer immediately following any earning transaction, in case you either forget or make a mistake later.
You don’t want to be using KrisPay miles as a payment method later, as this represents very poor value.
If you haven’t got it yet, you can download the KrisPay mobile app at the following links. Remember only use it to earn miles, never be tempted to spend your KrisPay miles at any merchant.
Getting 3 miles per dollar with your bubble tea, or a bouquet of flowers, is a great earn rate, plus when you combine that with a 4 mpd card for contactless transactions it’s good for 7 miles per dollar in total – a great return!
Even a fairly ‘average’ general spend card (1.2 mpd) will net you at least 4.2 mpd in total at these stores over the next two weeks or so.
Remember as always to transfer any KrisPay miles earned in their entirety straight to your KrisFlyer account.
