KrisFlyer Spree, SIA’s ‘online mall’ allowing you to earn KrisFlyer miles when making purchases at a variety of worldwide brands including Apple, Guardian and iHerb, has a year-end promotion for KrisFlyer members using the platform to make purchases between now and the end of 2020, with four weekly prizes for the top spenders.
In total there are nine opportunities to win, with over 100,000 KrisFlyer miles to be won by members across the promotion.
What is KrisFlyer Spree?
If you’re new to KrisFlyer Spree, it’s a bit like a cashback site but instead of earning cashback you’ll earn KrisFlyer miles instead for your purchases. You must be a KrisFlyer member to use the site.

You shop and pay for your purchases at the merchant’s website as you normally would, while KrisFlyer Spree tracks your purchases automatically and calculates how many miles you’ve earned.
Pro Tip: Make sure you’re getting a competitive deal when using KrisFlyer Spree compared to a cashback site like Shopback. We value a KrisFlyer mile at 1.9 cents each, so that’s a good place to start when calculating the benefit.Year end promotion
As usual KrisFlyer Spree has a range of promotional KrisFlyer miles earning rates, with the latest campaign page highlighting some of these.

That’s not exactly what this offer is about though. Between 28th October 2020 and 31st December 2020, the top 4 spenders at KrisFlyer Spree every week will receive a 2,888 KrisFlyer miles gift.
Here are the basic promotion mechanics:
- Top 4 weekly spenders (based on total value of approved transactions in USD, across all merchants) will be awarded with 2,888 bonus KrisFlyer miles.
- Eligible transactions must be tracked and approved within 120 days after the end of each promotion period.
- Members are eligible to win the prize more than once throughout the promotion period.
- Full T&Cs here.
The nine weekly periods for the promotion, in which your total transactions approved by KrisFlyer Spree will be assessed, are:
- 28 October 2020 – 3 November 2020
- 4 November 2020 – 10 November 2020
- 11 November 2020 – 17 November 2020
- 18 November 2020 – 24 November 2020
- 25 November 2020 – 1 December 2020
- 2 December 2020 – 8 December 2020
- 9 December 2020 – 15 December 2020
- 16 December 2020 – 22 December 2020
- 23 December 2020 – 31 December 2020
Timings for transactions are at 00:00 Singapore time on the first day to 23:59 Singapore time on the last day of each weekly period (GMT +8 for our international readers).
You can win the 2,888 miles prize more than once during the promotion, but only once per week.
When are the miles credited?
KrisFlyer Spree transactions are initially marked as ‘Pending’ in your KrisFlyer Spree account within 5 working days of purchase, but it will take a further 90 days for them to acknowledge and validate transactions. Your purchase will then switch to ‘Approved’, then the miles for the transaction itself will be credited to your KrisFlyer account after a further 7 working days.
Since your transactions must be ‘Approved’ to be assessed for this promotion, it will take KrisFlyer Spree some time to determine which four users were the top spenders in each weekly period, but rest assured valid spend will then be assessed by their original transaction date.
Due to the lag time with KrisFlyer Spree, any miles you earn from this promotion will not be credited to your KrisFlyer account until 31st May 2021. That award is separate to the regular KrisFlyer miles earning you’ll receive for the transactions, within 3-4 months of purchase date as outlined above.
For example, if it is assessed that you were one of the top four spenders in three of the nine weeks during the promotion period, you’ll get 8,664 KrisFlyer miles (2,888 x 3) credited on 31st May 2021, however you’ll almost certainly have received the regular KrisFlyer miles accrual for the purchases themselves at the rate applicable to the merchant some time before that, credited individually on a per-transaction basis.

Which card to use
You will be subject to the Merchant Category Code (MCC) of the particular store you buy from when shopping through KrisFlyer Spree, though these should all be coded as online transactions.
That means you can tap into some 4 mpd earn rates with a variety of credit cards, subject to their monthly requirements and spending caps.
For example, consider the DBS WWMC with 4 mpd for the first S$2,000 online spend per month, or the OCBC Titanium Rewards card for 4 mpd on the first S$12,000 spend per membership year at clothes and shoe stores, or electronics stores.

There are a few possibilities here so check the applicable categories for bonus spend rates for any cards you have to see if they will work with the merchant of your choice.
Remember in some cases depending on the merchant you may also wish to use a card giving bonus rates for overseas spend, as some KrisFlyer Spree stores charge in foreign currency (e.g. Mr Porter UK).
Summary
If you’re getting a good deal by shopping through KrisFlyer Spree, and you value the miles more than the cashback alternative you might otherwise get from sites like Shopback, there’s no harm in trying to amalgamate your purchases into one or more of the single weekly periods listed above to try and be among the top four spenders and earn some bonus miles in the process.
The problem as always with ‘top spenders’ promotions is that no one really knows how much they’ll have to spend to be among the top four with the highest amount in qualifying transactions during each week of the promotion, so there’s a chance you could try really hard to do so, but still end up with no bonus miles come next May.
