Citi is running an excellent flash promotion, with up to S$200 in GrabFood vouchers on offer when you set up PayAll payments over the next three days, which fall due between now and the end of September 2021.

This promotion also runs alongside Citi’s excellent 2.5 mpd offer for up to S$120,000 of payments made between 1st May 2021 and 31st August 2021, giving you the opportunity to generate 25,000 miles for S$200 in fees on a S$10,000 payment (0.8 cents per mile), then stack with this offer to also be entitled to S$200 in GrabFood vouchers, effectively cancelling out the fee altogether.

The offer

To be eligible for this deal you’ll have to set up any number of PayAll payments through the Citi Mobile app between 21st July 2021 and 23rd July 2021, including one-time and recurring arrangements, using one of the following Citi credit cards:

  • Citi ULTIMA Card
  • Citi Prestige Card
  • Citi PremierMiles Card
  • Citi Rewards Card
  • Citi Cash Back+ Card
  • Citi Cash Back Card

Total payments set up in promo period

GrabFood Vouchers
S$1 – S$2,999
S$3,000 – S$4,999 S$30
S$5,000 – S$9,999 S$75
S$10,000+ S$200

The due date for your payment(s) must fall before 30th September 2021. You must set up your payment(s) before 11.59pm on 23rd July 2021 for them to be counted towards the total.

For recurring payments, only the first payment that falls between now and 30th September 2021 will be considered towards the cumulative spend for the purposes of the promotion.

Existing recurring payments will not be considered; you’ll have to cancel those arrangements and set them up again within the three-day offer window to have the first instalment count towards the spend for this deal.

Registration for the promotion is not required, it is open to all those who hold one of the above mentioned cards. You can only receive one gift under this promotion.

The GrabFood vouchers

The gift will be paid as a voucher code you can redeem on the GrabFood app, structured as follows depending on the total voucher value you qualify for in this promotion:

  • S$200 GrabFood vouchers: 10 x S$20 denomination
  • S$75 GrabFood vouchers: 5 x S$15 denomination
  • S$30 GrabFood vouchers: 1 x S$30 denomination

Provided you successfully set up your payment(s) in accordance with the terms and conditions, you will receive the voucher code within 10 weeks from the end of the setup deadline, which is by 1st October 2021.

When using the codes, if your purchase is less than the value of voucher (e.g. S$17 using a S$20 voucher), no refund of the unused portion of the code will be made to you, so make sure you use each code for a transaction equal to or greater than your order total, to extract the full value.

Bear that in mind especially for the S$30 one, since it may be more difficult to achieve the full value if your orders are typically small (2 x S$15 vouchers could have been better here for some).

For GrabFood transactions greater than the voucher value, you’ll simply settle the excess cost directly (e.g. for a S$22 purchase using a S$20 voucher, you’ll pay the remaining S$2).

You can only apply one Grab voucher per transaction, so bear in mind you’re on the hook for 10 separate delivery fees with the S$200 deal, unless you self pick-up. Vouchers are valid for six months from date of issue.

Stack this offer with 2.5 mpd

The beauty of this offer is that you can use it to significantly offset the 2% fee incurred for your PayAll payment, especially at the three ‘sweet spots’ of S$3,000 (S$60 fee, S$30 vouchers back), S$5,000 (S$100 fee, S$75 vouchers back) and S$10,000 (S$200 fee, S$200 vouchers back).

That’s even more impressive at the moment with Citi offering an enhanced 2.5 mpd earn rate on the first S$120,000 of PayAll transactions charged to its four major miles earning cards, as shown in the following table.

The Citi Rewards cards were the most recent addition to this deal, which gives you an excellent cost per mile of 0.8 cents, even before the GrabFood vouchers are considered!

In addition, if you have never made any Citi PayAll payment before 1st May 2021, you’ll also get an additional S$50 cashback for your first transaction.

Here’s an example using a Citi PremierMiles card to set up three payments totalling S$10,000 during this three-day promotion window, to hit the most valuable ‘sweet spot’ and earn not only 2.5 mpd on all three payments, but also score the maximum S$200 in GrabFood vouchers.

Note: A recurring payment is not necessary for the GrabFood voucher deal, we have only included one as an example.

* Note how only the first payment in a recurring series set up during this promotion and falling due before 30th September is counted towards the assessed spend.

As you can see, assuming you value S$200 of GrabFood vouchers at S$200, which most of our readers will, you’re effectively generating 25,000 miles for zero net outlay in this ‘sweet spot’ example (free miles!).

Remember a couple of important points before you decide which payments to make using this promotion:

  • All payments will have to be set up during the promotion window (21st – 23rd July 2021). If you have an existing future-dated or recurring payment first set up before 21st July 2021, you’ll have to cancel it and set it up again during this period for the first payment in that new series (before 30th September 2021) to be eligible.
  • Any future payments set up to charge to your card between 1st September 2021 and 30th September 2021 will count towards this GrabFood vouchers offer, but will not earn 2.5 mpd, since that bonus miles promotion ends on 31st August 2021.

Stack this offer with 2.5 mpd and S$100 cashback

As if Citi PayAll’s 2.5 mpd earn rate wasn’t enough, there’s also a cashback offer for setting up a recurring payment of at least six consecutive months, with a flat S$100 awarded, provided each monthly instalment is a least S$500.

Let’s take a look at an example using the Citi PremierMiles card again, with a one-time payment of S$9,000 (e.g. income tax) set up during this three-day flash sale and a recurring S$1,000 monthly payment for six months also set up during the promotion.

In this case the first two payments (one-time 25th July and first recurring on 29th July) are assessed for the GrabFood offer (S$10k spend, generating S$200 voucher), while the first three payments will earn 2.5 mpd (offer ends 31 August) and the six recurring payments will trigger the S$100 cashback deal.

In this example you’re generating 32,300 miles for free, provided once again that you value S$200 of GrabFood vouchers at S$200.

When do the other offers credit?

If you’re stacking this GrabFood vouchers offer with the 2.5 mpd deal, note that the bonus miles making up the applicable difference to 2.5 mpd (either in equivalent ThankYou points or Citi Miles) will be credited within 10 weeks from the end of that promotion period, which is by 9th November 2021.

For the S$100 cashback deal, you’ll receive the S$100 cashback in the form of an account credit within 10 weeks of your third successful recurring payment in the six-payment series.

For example, if your first monthly payment is charged on 29th July 2021, as shown in the above example, you’ll receive the cash credit by 8th December 2021 (10 weeks after the 29th September 2021 payment).

Citi Miles / TYP are very flexible

We say it all the time, but it’s always worth remembering that Citi’s reward points are by far the most flexible in Singapore when it comes to the sheer range of transfer partners compared with other bank loyalty points.

You can transfer your miles into 11 different frequent flyer programmes and on the hotel side into IHG points.

As you can see from the table above, Citi gives you a wide range of flight redemption options including oneworld and SkyTeam carriers.

Our comprehensive guide here also gives examples of some of the alliance and partner airline redemptions you can achieve that you might not have considered before.

Even Qatar’s older non-Qsuite business class cabins are a great redemption option when transferring Citi miles into oneworld programmes. (Photo: Qatar Airways)

We’ve personally transferred Citi Miles into British Airways Avios (for good value intra-Asia Cathay Pacific redemptions) and Asia Miles (for the Qatar Airways Qsuite to Europe), but Turkish Airlines and the newly revalued Qatar Airways Privilege Club are also great options.

Summary

Citi has been rolling out deal after deal for its PayAll service this year, with excellent offers including 2.5 mpd on its popular miles earning cards and S$100 cashback on recurring payments.

This new GrabFood vouchers offer is the icing on the cake for those of you making payments of S$3,000 or more between now and the end of September through the platform, provided you set up those payments between 21st July 2021 and 23rd July 2021.

If you already have future-dated one-time or recurring payments that fall within the eligibility window for this deal (now to 30th September 2021), you’ll need to cancel and set them up again to trigger this offer.

For miles earners, you’ll no doubt want to be taking advantage of this offer before the end of August 2021 if you can, to also stack it with the 2.5 mpd bonus rate using the Citi ULTIMA, Prestige, PremierMiles and Rewards cards.

Finally for those making recurring payments under the S$100 cashback offer, there’s a ‘triple dip’ option if you set them up as part of a sufficient total spend in the next three days.

  1. Problem is grab food vouchers aren’t worth $20 each because you have to pay 10 x extortionate delivery fee to use them all up (one per order). Call it $100 off maybe… not $200.
