KrisFlyer April ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ 30% award discounts

30% off selected KrisFlyer redemptions for travel in April 2018.

EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.

A380 Birds Grass

The regular monthly KrisFlyer ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ promotion has been announced, for travel during April 2018. Redemptions need to be booked by 31st March 2018 to qualify for the discounts, and unlike regular KrisFlyer redemptions these flights, once booked, aren’t changeable or refundable.

Background

A recap on the rules

Here’s a summary of the T&Cs:

  • Book before 31st March 2018
  • Valid for flights from 1st – 30th April 2018
  • Only valid on “Saver” redemptions
  • Respect blackout dates (e.g. Singapore to Denpasar blocked 25th-30th April)
  • Changes and cancellation are not permitted for bookings made under this promotion
  • All sectors must be available on the offer (e.g. if the return sector is unavailable on the correct flight – the cost for the whole trip jumps! Book one-ways instead and still save)

Waitlist redemptions are applicable for the discount. That means you can add one of these flights as a waitlist redemption for the discounted rate. If it comes up for confirmation by 31st March, it’s yours for the lower rate. If it clears on 1st April or later, you’ll have to pay the normal rate.

Booking tip

We’ve said it before – but it’s not made obvious on the website that the discounted miles rate is being applied – have faith! Click the ‘Saver’ rate and then check the drop-down box, where the discounted rate is then shown, if your flight is applicable for discount:

Noteworthy deals this month

There are a number of destinations available for travel throughout most dates in April, with the odd exclusion period and some routes only available on specific flight numbers as shown below.

We had hoped to see Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur flights operated by the new 787-10 during April included in this promotion, with the latest regional business class product, however they have sadly not been included.

Edit: You can actually book the Boeing 787-10 flights with the new regional business class product at the 30% discount, but only on the Bangkok to Singapore leg:

  • From 3rd April to 30th April (BKK-SIN SQ973)
  • From 10th April to 30th April (BKK-SIN SQ975)

Thanks to MILEtitude for spotting it!

For the second month the brand new A380 business class is discounted on the Sydney flight (SQ221 SIN-SYD and SQ232 SYD-SIN). We reviewed the new product in January and were impressed with the offering, and at 40,600 miles each way it’s a great deal if you can find dates which suit you.

Once again, Dusseldorf flights make their regular re-appearance for 30% off business class redemptions, SIA really seem to be struggling to fill this flight at the front end.

SilkAir April Discounts

MIlogo.jpg

This month SilkAir are offering 30% off nearly all their destinations, in both economy and business class, so we didn’t make a full table. Some of the best value savings will be made on these longer routes:

  • Singapore / Cairns: 58,000 40,600 miles in business, 28,000 19,600 miles in economy
  • Singapore / Hiroshima: 43,000 30,100 miles in business, 25,000 17,500 miles in economy
  • Singapore / Male: 35,000 24,500 miles in business, 18,500 12,950 miles in economy

There are also no blackout dates for the SilkAir offer, and all flight numbers on the eligible routes are included.

Full details of all the SilkAir routes applicable for the 30% discount during this promotion can be found on the ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ page here.

Redemption Availability

We can’t check redemption seats on all these routes for April, but the standout option which probably interests our readers most is the newest ‘2017 J’ A380 business class seat flying between Singapore and Sydney each day, which is included in this offer on the dates shown, except blackout dates.

As with last month, you’ll need to book SQ221 on the Singapore to Sydney sector, and/or SQ232 on the Sydney to Singapore sector to experience this new product.

Here’s a breakdown of saver award seat availability during the promotion. It’s very slim pickings on the northbound sector from Sydney to Singapore, but there is better availability in the other direction. Remember it can change at short notice and bookings must be made by 31st March to enjoy the discounted miles rate.

Remember…

If you can’t secure a return flight with the discount, book a one-way instead, then pay the usual saver rate for the other sector. On a return flight with this offer, as soon as one of the two flights falls outside the promotion, it re-prices the whole thing to the higher rate, which will cost you more.

Happy searching and booking!
