More bonus miles at Kris+ merchants this month – earn up to 13 mpd

Kris+, SIA’s ‘lifestyle app’ allowing you to earn additional KrisFlyer miles for in-store retail spend at a variety of stores in Singapore, already has some nice bonus miles offers for dining running at the moment, allowing you to earn up to 10 mpd at 10 restaurants across town between now and the end of May.

On top of that offer, there’s now a 3X miles earning promotion at six new Kris+ partners, with earning rates up to 9 mpd during the promotion period, which runs from 16th April to 30th April 2021.

As usual, that means the ability to effectively earn an effective 13 mpd using the right bonus miles earning credit card when making your purchase.

New merchants bonus (until 30 April)

Which card to use

As you probably already know, with Kris+ you’ll earn KrisPay miles for your transaction (which you can then convert into KrisFlyer miles) on top of the usual points you’ll get when using your best credit card to make payment.

Kris+ earning is only for in-store (physical) transactions.

Where possible, you’ll want to be using a credit card offering a 4 mpd bonus rate when settling your dining bill at these restaurants, which you’ll then earn separately and in addition to up to 6 mpd through Kris+.

Simple option:    Contactless

If you hold one of the following credit cards, you’re simplest option is to earn your highest bonus rate by making a contactless payment with the merchant, while also scanning to earn KrisPay miles through the Kris+ app.

The following cards have slightly more complicated MCC restrictions for physical in-store transactions, but all will award 4 mpd for dining spend under MCC 5812 during this promotion.

In particular, note that MCC 7399 (The Working Capitol) is excluded even from base points earning with many Singapore-issued credit cards, let alone bonus levels, so don’t expect to ‘double-dip’ here.

  Still unsure?

If you’re still not sure whether your bonus miles credit card is eligible for the merchant of your choice, our advice is to use your best card for general spend miles accrual, especially if the transaction is substantial.

For smaller amounts you may wish to take the chance, but remember most bonus category spend credit cards earn just 0.4 mpd when you make transactions that the bank decides don’t qualify.

How to earn miles with Kris+

If you’re still used to the old KrisPay app when earning miles for purchases, be aware that the function has been relocated slightly in the new Kris+ version.

You can now find it via the ‘Wallet’ icon at the bottom of the screen when using the app.

Just click on ‘Earn’ then type in the total amount spent at the retailer, hit next and allow the cashier to scan the QR code.

KrisPay miles earned through Kris+ can only be transferred to your KrisFlyer account within 7 days of the transaction. To do so, simply tap on the “Transfer to KrisFlyer” button which will appear on the miles earned confirmation screen or transaction details screen.

Remember that KrisPay miles earned per transaction can only be transferred to your account in their entirety. If you earned 100 KrisPay miles from a single Kris+ transaction, for example, the full 100 KrisPay miles must be transferred to your KrisFlyer account. If you have already spent some of your KrisPay miles earned, a partial transfer option is not available.

We therefore recommend transferring to KrisFlyer immediately following any Kris+ earning transaction, in case you either forget or make a mistake later.

Summary

With these six new merchants, there are now 16 bonus earning options across the city between now and the end of April when you scan the Kris+ app along with your in-store cash or card payment.

The 10 restaurant promotions continue to run through the whole of May 2021 too.
