Card payments provider ipaymy has added the option to settle bills and invoices when using American Express cards for the first time, with a competitive 2.25% fee, meaning several popular miles-earning credit cards can now generate miles from 1.57 cents each when paying rent, taxes or other general invoices.
This deal comes in close to 15% cheaper than the CardUp alternative for American Express card payments, making ipaymy the new go-to provider for those using these cards to generate additional miles.
Until now, ipaymy only accepted Visa, Mastercard and Union Pay cards.
Newly supported AMEX cards
Only American Express consumer cards in Singapore are currently accepted on ipaymy, adding the following options to the list on the miles-earning side:
- AMEX Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Credit Cards
- DBS Altitude AMEX Card
- DBS Treasures Black Elite AMEX Card
- UOB PRVI Miles Platinum AMEX Card
Supported AMEX payment types
Using your American Express card, you can make domestic payments using ipaymy in the following categories:
- Rental Deposits
- Income Tax
- Property Tax
- Stamp Duty
- Condo Fees (MCST)
- Tuition, Education, and School Fees
- Season Parking
Cost per mile
Here are some cost per mile examples for Singapore-issued credit cards with this year-round 2.25% rate, applicable to any American Express card payment:
|Card||Miles per S$1||Cost per mile
|UOB PRVI Miles Amex||1.4||1.57¢|
|DBS Altitude Amex||1.2||1.83¢|
|DBS Treasures Black Elite
|AMEX KF Ascend||1.2||1.83¢|
|AMEX KF Blue||1.1||2.00¢|
As you can see this 2.25% fee level allows you to generate miles from 1.57 cents to 2 cents each using these popular miles-earning American Express cards.
CardUp charges a 2.6% fee for payments using American Express cards, which means paying 15% more to generate miles compared to this year-round rate from ipaymy (1.81 cents to 2.3 cents, in the above examples).
CNY Offer – Visa and Mastercard payments for 1.88%
While there’s no current promotional rate for Amex cards, if you make a payment through ipaymy with a charge date between now and 5th February 2023 and apply promo code HUAT188, using a Singapore-issued Visa or Mastercard, you’ll be eligible for a competitive 1.88% rate for the transaction.
Note that this does not apply to recurring payments.
The payout date for your payment will need to be on or before 7th February 2023 in order to benefit from the promotional rate.
Obviously the bigger the payment, the bigger the saving, so if you have several transactions to make this month – try to save the code for the most expensive one!
Here are some cost per mile examples for Singapore-issued credit cards under this promotional deal at the 1.88% rate (applicable to any Visa or Mastercard payment):
|Card||Miles per S$1||Cost per mile
|UOB PRVI Miles MC/Visa||1.4||1.32¢|
|OCBC Voyage Visa||1.3||1.42¢|
|DBS Altitude Visa||1.2||1.54¢|
All of these are competitive rates to buy, now that international travel has returned.
To benefit from the lower rate, you just need to enter HUAT188 in the ‘Promo code’ field when setting up your payment.
Do note that CardUp is currently offering a lower 1.8% fee on a one-time payment for the first 200 users between now and the end of February 2023, but this is restricted to Visa card payments.
If you can use that code first with a Visa, you can then shift to ipaymy for the next payment using either Visa or Mastercard at 1.88%.
You can maximise this ipaymy promotional rate by combining more than one invoice payment into a single transaction, for example one for insurance and another for tuition fees.
This will allow you to pay more than one bill at the 1.88% promotional rate.
Here’s an example for a payment I have scheduled to two separate providers, at S$1,000 each.
The HUAT188 promo code then applies the promotional 1.88% fee on both payments (i.e. one combined credit card charge).
For more details on how to pay multiple invoices with ipaymy, click here.
Between now and 5th February 2023, you’ll earn an automatic entry into ipaymy’s Lunar New Year giveaway for every $500 you pay using the HUAT188 promo code.
Each entry gives you chance to win an S$88 reduction on your next ipaymy fee.
That’s enough for a completely fee-free payment of up to S$3,912, allowing you to generate up to 6,400 free miles with a 1.6 mpd credit card.
There’s no upper cap on the payment amount when using your HUAT188 code, so the larger your transaction the more entries you’ll receive in the prize draw.
The winners will be announced on the ipaymy Facebook page.
Citi PayAll has a better deal
Citi PayAll has an ongoing deal running from now until 31st January 2023, offering Citi cardholders 1.8 mpd on all payments, provided the total from all payments made through the facility is between S$5,000 and S$80,000 (in total aggregate spend) during the promotion.
Like ipaymy, Citi PayAll can be used to pay property rental, education bills, income tax, insurance and other similar expenses.
This allows those with the following cards to buy miles at 1.11 cents each during the promotion, all of which come in better than the one-time ipaymy 1.88% fee offer.
|Card||Earn rate||Cost per mile
The downside of course is that you’ll need to have at least S$5,000 of total payments to make by the end of January 2023 to benefit, while the ipaymy deal is good for smaller payment amounts too, until 5th February 2023.
ipaymy has started accepting American Express cards for payments made through its platform, with an industry-leading 2.25% fee, allowing you to generate miles through some popular cards like the UOB PRVI Miles Amex from 1.57 cents each.
That’s close to 15% less cost per mile than the alternative – CardUp – which charges a 2.6% fee for American Express card payments.
Between now and 5th February 2023, ipaymy also has a 1.88% fee offer on a one-time payment (or multiple invoices combined in the same payment), applicable to Visa and Mastercard holders.
There’s also a chance to win an S$88 reduction on your next ipaymy fee for every S$500 charged using the CNY promo code.
