EXPIRED This article relates to an offer or promotion which has now expired.
The regular monthly KrisFlyer ‘Spontaneous Escapes’ promotion has been announced, for travel during May 2018. Redemptions need to be booked by 30th April 2018 to qualify for the discounts, and unlike regular KrisFlyer redemptions these flights, once booked, aren’t changeable or refundable.
The rules
As this is a regular promotion most of you will be well-versed on the rules for these redemptions, but here’s a summary of the T&Cs:
- Book before 30th April 2018
- Valid for flights from 1st – 31st May 2018
- Only valid on “Saver” redemptions
- Respect blackout dates (e.g. Singapore to Brisbane in Business Class blocked 25th-31st May)
- Changes and cancellation are not permitted for bookings made under this promotion
- All sectors must be available on the offer (e.g. if the return sector is unavailable on the correct flight – the cost for the whole trip jumps! Book one-ways instead and still save)
Waitlist redemptions are applicable for the discount. That means you can add one of these flights as a waitlist redemption for the discounted rate. If it comes up for confirmation by 30th April, it’s yours for the lower rate. If it clears on 1st May or later, you’ll have to pay the normal rate.
Booking tip
We’ve said it before – but it’s not made obvious on the website that the discounted miles rate is being applied – have faith! Click the ‘Saver’ rate and then check the drop-down box, where the discounted rate is then shown, if your flight is applicable for discount:
Noteworthy deals this month
There are a number of destinations available for travel throughout most dates in May, with the odd exclusion period and some routes only available on specific flight numbers as shown below.
As the discount is a percentage, the further you go the more miles you save over the regular rates. Singapore to London in economy features this month and saves 11,400 miles each way over the usual saver redemption.
In business Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are all available this month, with some date exclusions, saving 17,400 miles each way on the usual cost.
Dubai also features this month with 13,500 miles off for business class saver redemptions in May.
For the third month in a row the brand new A380 business class is discounted on the Sydney flight (SQ221 SIN-SYD and SQ232 SYD-SIN). We reviewed the new product in January and were impressed with the offering, and at 40,600 miles each way it’s a great deal if you can find dates which suit you.

Hong Kong is also available with 30% off – selected flights are operated by the A380 with the new business class cabin product – 19,250 miles each way on flights SQ856 and SQ861 operating daily from 3rd May. A great value way to try out these new seats for about 4 hours.
Once again, Dusseldorf flights make their regular re-appearance for 30% off business class redemptions, SIA really seem to be struggling to fill this flight at the front end.
New Regional Business Class
We reviewed the new regional business class seat earlier this month, taking a close look at the seat itself with a window booking on a Singapore to Bangkok flight, followed by a detailed overview of the middle pair on the way back to Singapore.
If you want to try out this excellent new product there is availability on selected flights with 30% off in May to and from Bangkok (14,000 miles) and Perth (22,750 miles).

Check out our new regional business class seats tracker to check which flights on these routes are operated by the 787-10, then make sure the seat map confirms it before you book.

Redemption Availability
We can’t check redemption seats on all these routes for May, but the standout option which probably interests our readers most remains the newest ‘2017 J’ A380 business class seat flying between Singapore and Sydney each day, which is included in this offer throughout May.
As with the last two months, you’ll need to book SQ221 on the Singapore to Sydney sector, and/or SQ232 on the Sydney to Singapore sector to experience this new product.
Here’s a breakdown of saver award seat availability during the promotion. It’s very slim pickings on the northbound sector from Sydney to Singapore with only 3 single seats available for immediate saver redemption on 3 different days.
There is better availability in the Singapore to Sydney direction with 10 days of availability in total, 8 of which have at least 2 saver award seats.
Remember it can change at short notice and bookings must be made by 30th April to enjoy the discounted miles rate.

Remember…
If you can’t secure a return flight with the discount, book a one-way instead, then pay the usual saver rate for the other sector. On a return flight with this offer, as soon as one of the two flights falls outside the promotion, it re-prices the whole thing to the higher rate, which will cost you more.
Happy searching and booking!
